Hey thats not bad. I'm 23 and I've only taken one coues and all hers are a lot bigger then mine was. Goes to show you the benifits of having outdoorsy parents. I was lucky to have the parents I did though. My dad was into quail hunting so he never took me deer hunting but the supported me in my intrest in deer hunting. Sence then I've gotten my dad and brother a little more into deer hunting. Don't have any kids of my own but her is a picture of my brothers oldest. She loves to fish. This was her firts fish that she ever cought all by herself.

Crazy Pets
IHunt2live replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I have a cousin who as an oposum for a pet. He found it when it was about a week old. That has to be one of the ugliest things I've seen. Sorry, don't have any pics. -
No kidding. That reminds me of bussiness someone told me about in Alaska. He said it was a Vet/Taxidermy shop and outside of the building they posted a little saying, "Either Way You Get Your Dog Back". I think its incredible what you can train a dog to do and all they want to do is please you.

I had a dog get bit a couple of years ago while quail hunting, almost lost her but she made a full recovery. The vet bill sure hurt. I could have bought a pair of Swaros for that kind of money. Ever sence then I've hated those things.

You all are making me want to take up bear hunting. -
For those who are in the business of buying antlers, how long would it take to earn that $5K back? I assume that thats not why you would get one of these dogs.

Pic of my mutt
IHunt2live replied to 25-06's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
O.... Forgot about this. Its nothing like Gunner but some of you might get a kick out of it. When She goes into a really deep sleep, you can open her mouth and pull out her tongue, and not wake her. Don't ask how we figured that out, I can't remember. -
Pic of my mutt

I've enjoyed all the pics and thats quit a dog you have there Coues 'n' Sheep. Thought I would share some pics. of my muts. This is my male GSP "Dewey" hes still young and has lots to learn but hes turning out to be an ok quail dog. He is goof-ball. The second is "Ginger" don't tell her this but she was an excident. Shes a English pointer/Brittney mix. My friends hunting dogs had an unplaned litter. She is to smart for her on good and a heck of a quail dog. -
How is everyone getting it? Through E-mail? Thats how I got mine. I have to wonder if they are realy getting a good representitive sample if it only comes through E-mail.

I just got back from unit 34A and came home empty-handed. I did however see four bucks, all still wearing their headgear. I saw them up the draw I was planning on heading up but I decided to leave them allown and go up some other draws. I came back about three hours later and they were still there. I watched them for about 45 min until someone drove up the road and scared them off. There were three three points I would say one might have been pushing 80 and the rest were a little smaller and one spike. Hopefully they stay in that area so i can find their sheds while they are still fresh.

I was able to get out Friday with my wife to look for some sheds. We got a late start and with temp over 90 we mostly walked the creek bottoms. I was also looking to set up my trail camera but there were to many water holes the deer could hit. Walked about five hours and this small three point head was all I found. The smallest three point I've ever seen. I happened to find it the way back, only about 400 yards from the truck. We did however see lots of lion tracks going up and down every creek we walked. I've never seen that many tracks. I think I might have to get a lion tag to keep in my back pocket just in case. One set of tracks looked realy big. Here is the best pic I could get.

I also wear danners pronghorn model. They are the most comfortable boots I've worn and the broke in with little to no effort. They are extremly light weight and have great support. I think they cost around $150. When i wear these out I'll probably go with pronghors agian.

I have to much time on my hands right now so I thought I would share this with you all. Sorry the picture is not all that good I've wanted to take some good pics of some good finds I've found over the years and haven't gotten around to it. I'll share them someday. I found this head in unit 34A a few years ago. A couple of days after I found it I was glassing the same area and saw two bucks, in velvet, just as good as this one. I got a realy good look at them as the skylined over the ridge. I went after them and never saw them agian. I could tell one of them had a sorts of trash on him. The sad thing is, is that a land owner as locked the road into the area, which is on National Forest, so i can no longer get to the area. I think there is a long, I mean long way around, and you need a fourwhealer to get down the road and I can't afford one right now. I've never had him scored, I've tried scoring a few heads myself but I have no confidence in my abilities. I feel I end up with a number way to low. As you can tell it had been chewed on a little and bleached but still a great find.

I agree. It looks a little fake to me, especialy around the head and antlers. Neat pic though, I liked it, thatnks for shearing.

I'm not to sure how many bears are left in unit 33. With all the bear problems they have had a summerhaven I think they have taken most bears off of mount Lemon. I've herd there are still some up there in remote canyons so maybe you could give that a try. This past weekend I was over on the east side of the Rincons and saw what I'm pretty sure was bear scat. It was down pretty low and also pretty old. Sorry I coundn't be more help. I saw that your from Tucson, Redman. I bet it nice to get a chance to hunt bears not to far from home. Good Luck.

Years ago I saw some feral pigs just south of tucson. They could have gotten lose from some nearby homes, a few miles away, or from the Pima county fairgrounds, I think there were two adults and one juvinile. I could nearly walk up to them so I imagine thats what happened. I haven't seen them in years but i haven't been down there that often anymore. My dad also found a hudge hog skull with about two inch tusks going strait out to the side in the same area. Who knows maybe there are a few down there still but my guess there isn't or they just gotten loose. I'll post a pick of the skull when I get a chance, its over at the folks house.

From what I hear they will start to drop down here anytime through april. I realy don't expect to find any fresh ones till the end of April. At least thats what I've herd I haven't had much experience shed hunting. Maybe those with more experince down here in the southern units can share their experience. I'm sure its not much different then the deer in the rest of the state.

Over the counter archery deer tag gone?
IHunt2live replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I agree. Down here in the southern units I hardly ever run into other archery hunters. In fact, I can't remember the last time I have (I guess that might means that I'm in a bad spot ). I love the over the counter archery tags. I've archery deer hunted for years and have yet harvested a deer yet and I know my chances are low but theres always the chance. Plus, I didn't get drawn for anything this past year and I love having the archery tag to fall back on that allows me to get out and try my luck. -
Nice finds. Gets me excited about heading out this weekend and try my luck. I'm planning on setting up my trail camera for the first time and hike all day looking for sheds.

funny mule deer videos
IHunt2live replied to TwoGuns's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Wasn't that a buck? To me it looks like they had been shed, maybe cut off. That was sure one fat deer though. thanks for sharing, I had a good laugh. -
I'de like to propose a question for you all. Me personaly, haven't been around for long enough to compare, but I know a lot of you have been hunting coues for a while and I like to know what you all think about whitetails moving to lower and lower elavations. I've visited with a lot of people, and some biologist, who have said that the coues can be seen in much lower elavations then were they have been historicly. Have most of you seen this? Why do you think it is and do you think that has an impact of the desert mule deer at least in some areas? Just curious what you all think.
