  1. No Joke, Tucson has nothing without SW. I feel like a redneck going into walmart for all me sporting good supplies . Even right now I hardly make it to SW becouse I'm clear on the other side of down and it take me a good 45 min. to get there in light traffic.

What do you all use for sharpening knifes

I do like to use the lose stone most of the time, thats what I cary in the feild, but I like the idea of conditioning the edge every once and a while.
  3. I'm thinking about buying a good sharpening kit and have been looking at the kit Gatco makes. I like the idea of having a consistent angle. Any one have the kit? Any good? Any other ideas?

What to look for terrain wise...

You might think about looking at sat. photos as well like google earth. You can get a sence what the vegitation is like and maybe find a water hole thats not named on a map. as well as posible roads.

    NEW RULE FOR SHEDS?

Thats what I was going to say as well if in doubt just call them OR if its a MONSTER skull that will always give rise to debet. For me, if it has been knawed on, sunbleach, or your run of the mill average sized aniamal I'll pick it up. What about ram heads? Are they still leave them were you found it?

    Finnaly got my pig

Had some tonight and I must say it tasted GREAT. Heres what we did. Get it off the bones and soak it in salt water at least overnight, I think we had it in for about 24 hours. Then brown the meat and cook it in a pressure cooker with lipton onion soup mix. The meat just fell apart when we took it out of the cooker and I thought it tasted AWESOME. My parents mix in some BBQ sauce with some but I'm not a big fan of BBQ sauce and enjoyed the meat just as it came out of the cooker.

    Finnaly got my pig

It’s been a tuff pig season for me until today. I have had many blown stocks and I wont mention how many released arrows that missed their mark. Today was the first day back to the U and being the first day I didn’t have a lab to go to this afternoon so I thought I would try AGAIN for a pig. I pull in to my spot about 2:30 and start walking up the hill to get to me lucky tree to start glassing. I made it half way up the hill when I noticed some new pig digging, always a good sign, but in reality they could be several days old. I’m walking on top of the ridge and get to about 10 feet of my tree when a smell made me stop in my tracks. I thought skunk at first then… no wait PIGS… they must be close, but how close. I scan the area when I noticed a “rock” 20 yards in front of me that I don’t remember seeing before just then the “rock” moves… holy crap PIGS! I knock an arrow as a pig walk right over the little rise out of the grass and in front of the single light rock you see in the pic bellow, not the pair of rocks. The pig stops broadside right in front of the rock and by then I was at full draw and let the arrow fly. Perfect shot but I was surprised to see the arrow didn’t pass through, O’ the rock that’s right. If you look close you can see the back of the pig in the same pic through the tree. I thought about waiting and seeing if there were any other pigs, and there were but just over that rise, maybe a bigger one but I had the chance and had to take it. I go down and retrieve my pig and found my broadhead made the shaft of my arrow a good inch shorter. Took a few pics and was headed home without even sitting down to glass. WHAT LUCK. That pig couldn’t have timed it any worse.

Walked up on a lion yesterday

I realy couldn't tell, maybe you could see it when you were there amanda, but it seems like its probable a cable snare, not one of those gator teeth traps. If so the lion is not in much pain if at all. more scared then anything. I don't think I could take a lion like that for sport but in a situation were its a problem animal I would do it. I also have no problem with other people doing it for sport. To each his own I guess. Thanks for sareing amanda.

    Elk draw help

Not trying to e-scout or anything but I would like some input on what units I might/should put in for. I've only elk hunted once and that was going on 10 years ago. I know I'm probably opening a can of worms with this one, sorry. Heres what I'm looking for. Archery, early season, 1st choice will probable be bull, not counting on it with such few bonus points and second will be cow, Don't want a limited oppertunity hunt but a fairly good chance in getting drawn even if its my second choice for cow, and I was thinking a unit with some open juniper country so I can glass a little might be nice since thats the only way I know how to hunt . My dad will probably also put in as well. I think we will only have 3 bonus points maybe 4. Thanks for any ideas or if you want to keep your mouth shut I understand. Just thought I would ask.

    Cock vane question

I don't use that rest but I use one with a simmilar system. I can see the use of the bar to keep the arrow in place during a stock, I never keep my bow perfectly upright during a stock. I had the same problem then I discovered that I could take that bar off an my arrow was still kept in place but the bottom of my site.

    Need Gun Safe

Just a reminder about safes. But I don't think you all will need it. They are no good if you leave them unlocked! I have to remind my dad ALL the time about that. Just now I got a call from my parents alarm company saying the alarm was set off, Its usualy means they left a door unlocked and the dogs got in and thats what happened, want to go turn it off and found my dads safe wide open. I'm starting to wonder if my guns will be safer here at my place without a safe.

    No Pig YET

Thanks for that thought. I was thinking it might be something like that. That stupid tubbing has brocken a few times and I have just stuck it back on so I was thinking it was getting a little to short. And yes thats another pig on the left. I never got a good count of how many were in the herd becouse of all that brush and thats about all I could see of them. There were about 8-10 I think. Theres another herd in that same valley I was hunting that I never saw. Those pigs can be difficult to spot!

    No Pig YET

Had a 3 day hunt out near my father in laws place and had a good time. It was a little more dificult finding the pigs then I thought. They are in there I know but plenty of cut for them to stay in. I got in the middle of one herd and flung arrows all over the place emptying my quiver. First shot was deflected by some brush and what I wasn't aware of was the dang tubbing to line up my peep broke which made me shoot high. Why it shoots high I don't know. I didn't notice it until I shot the last arrow. I ran into them again and sat there watching them at 40 yards for a couple of hours with no good arrows. Can you spot the pig? I spoted a nice buck that I would have put a stock on if he would have bedded down in a good spot but the doe he was fallowing kept on walking and went down nto a thick draw. He had weak G3's but i could have swarn that his main beams turned down at the tips. Also found a nice shed in another location I hunted one afternoon. 4 good 3 point I've found in that area. Might have to hunt that area some more. Not much to compair the antler with in the pick but I would say he was in the low 90's. Got some stuff to do but I be back at them and some deer in the next couple of days, have to see if this bow is shooting they way it should.
