Yikes Amanda! Don't know if I could have slept...... Hear too many horror stories! I'm especially careful with my new tent, which is the Ultimate Alaknak, which doesn't breath quite like canvas. My heater & stove (for coffee/cocoa) are ALWAYS off when we sleep. I Just put an extra wool blanket over each kid while they sleep, and we're fine. Of course they end-up staying in their bags in the morning waiting for me to warm the coffee/cocoa, and hence the tent! Be safe all!! S.

VERY, VERY GOOD WARNING DOUG!!!! Thanks for sharing! S.

Thanks for the info Jim. As usual, comprehensive and thoughtful! I bought The Claw a couple of seasons ago now, and suppose I really have not put it to it's true use. Really, we just used it as a glorified tripod mount on my son's last hunt, as opposed to truly 'locking it in' and supporting the butt with sticks, etc... I generally shoot bolt action rifles, but have a 7.MM BAR that we use on occasion, and I had considered the 'clamp' effect and positioning on the action of that rifle for sure! I too, have become VERY accustomed to shooting sticks. I carry them on every hunt, and definitely use them with/for my kids. As demonstrated by my little Greta last month, they are invaluable for a 'small' shooter who doesn't necessarily have the arm strength to support a heavy gun on their knee, much less make a shot! I personally, always try to shoot off the sticks, as it gives me a rest that makes me feel comfortable/confident. Thanks a bunch for the thoughtful write-up and information! S.

Good write-up Jim! Curious; Have you used The Gun Claw? If so, I'm curious as to how you would compare the two?? Thanks, S.

Sorry, I don't know 20B. I think though, that there will be a Junior Camp in 20C as usual! You should get in touch with the guys at Youth Outdoors Unlimited, and/or the G&F to inquire about the camp. My guess is that they will be able to help you for your hunt in 20B! Good luck! S.

Uh...... I can see that I have a LOT to learn about shooting!!! I thought that you just figured that the distance to target needed to be measured 'as the crow flys', ignorning eleveation..... S.

Let's do a 36b early Jr's hunt!
stanley replied to hunter74's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I would definitely support it! If they did it, I doubt it would be instead of a later hunt. I would likely be 'in addition to', as it is in A. Are you going to be down for the 36A/B junior hunt next weekend?? I'll be there with my two boys. If you are, you should stop by the Juniors Camp off othe Botemote Roade that the G&F and SCI are sponsoring! Gabe Paz & others will be there. They are the folks you should be directing your question to! If you're not going to be there, you should call the Tucson G&F office and ask for Mark (36A/B Wildlife Manager) to give him this feedback directly! S. -
AWESOME!!! How about that big boy in the second pic???? Thanks for sharing! S.

Awesome post Mitch!!! Kids/family & hunting is an unbeatable combo!!!! Thanks for sharing! S. -
+1 My father was a navigator in a B-17 in WWII! I've lived in awe of his sacrifice/courage, and that of all Vets all of my life. He is 86 years old now, and still loves to recount the days flying missions over Europe! I also LOVE hearing his stories over & over!!! Never get tired of hearing a hero speak!! Called him this morning to honor/thank him like I do every Veteran's Day. Sincere thanks to all that have served! S.

Got an armored truck for your Sonora hunt?
stanley replied to billrquimby's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
+1 for me on this one! I too, would like to see the statistics on any truly 'innocent' American tourist being harmed in Northern Mexico (or anywhere in Mexico, for that matter....). I don't think it's a matter of having your head in the sand Casey, I think it's a matter of being 'alarmist' or 'realist'...... I went to Rocky Point last May for a nice weekend with a friend. My family told me I was crazy, but show me where the statistics prove tourists are at great risk there? I had a great time there as always, BTW..... I had this same argument, and eventually agreed to disagree with my dear mother on the topic. She could NOT find any examples in significant numbers that proved tourists are at risk! I have also had the same debate with friends regarding hunting the far Southern units. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am VERY fond of the 36's. Like Casey and others, I've been down there many times. I'll be down there next weekend with my boys on a junior hunt. I will not fear for my or their lives in the least. All of the illegals that I have encountered have not wanted to have ANYTHING to do with me! They just hide & run. My mom hates it what I hunt there with my children, but again, show me stats that say it is dangerous to the average hunter?? Good luck to all hunters/tourists North AND South of the border! S. -
