    Prickly Pear Jelly and Syrup

I do some canning/jarring (meats, veggies, etc.), but have never done any jelly or jams. I'm super curious on the taste, though. My mom used to make pomegranate jelly when I was a kid. It was tasty, but to me it sort of tasted like any other jelly; sweet. (Maybe she used too much sugar...) Does this stuff really have a distinctive/unique taste? Elaborate on 'earthy'??

Lakes filling up from the rain??

Yep, monsoon rain is great for summer foliage growth and filling stock tanks, but for the most part the lakes depend on winter moisture. Consistent average/above-average snowpack in the White Mountains for the Salt River and the western slope of the Rockies for the Colorado River is what's needed.

  4. I buy quite a lot of ammo through Midway USA or bulkammo.com, and I’ve never had a problem. In the article the guy claims that 2/3 of his shipments through UPS are going missing? Why would he keep using them? He also says that he’s lost thousands of dollars. He doesn’t buy the insurance that UPS offers? 😭 Anytime you order from a reputable online source, if the item does not make it to you, you don’t lose your money. Either the shipper eats it or the online retailer eats it if they didn’t pay for the insurance. i’ll keep ordering ammo online. 😉
  5. I would start by checking-out the unit info on the G&F website. Then, since you're in Kearny and it's fairly close, I would start doing some scouting trips to get the lay of the land. Once you have some info to share, maybe post here. At that point, you might find someone willing to connect with you and share some tips or info on their experience in the unit. Bottom line, IMO; Start with G&F site, then put some work in. THEN ask for some help. Good luck!

    AZGFD offering 12 Limited tags.

+1 on it likely being Mike Gallo. (I didn't see his latest NM buck. Will have to look for that.) You know me though, Lance, I'm a hack! I'll pay my ranch access fee and be perfectly happy with any average buck.

Looking at the current bids makes me feel a little better (just a little) about the price I'm paying for landowner access to hunt pronghorn. lol

    What’s the best camp chair?

+1 / exactly Kids gave me one of those for Father's Day a couple of years ago. I love it and use it, but from a practical perspective, it's a bit bulky. Because of the bulkiness, I have several of the others, plus this one for nap-time....

    2022 SD Tuna/Yellowtail trips

As I was dropping him off at 5AM for his 1-day YT trip, there was a boat returning from a 5-day trip. They had a ton of Bluefin that they were unloading. Talked to a couple of the guys getting off the boat and they were raving about the night-bite jigging.... Here is son's first YT. We ate sashimi, ceviche, and fish tacos that night. BF from the 5-Day trip....

    2022 SD Tuna/Yellowtail trips

Maybe the difference is that if you fish out of Cabo, there is likely an assumption that you need a passport to even get there (So no proof needed for the boat if it sails from Cabo...)? If you are fishing further north, there is a greater possibility that you entered Mexican waters by sea from the US, so your passport would not have been already validated through a land entry point. I aint no expert for sure, but just know that my son had to bring his passport on a cattle-call boat while we were in SD for our annual family vacay last month. The boat was going to target the Coronado Islands, and the operator was strict on everybody having to have a passport for that fishing trip. BTW, I know you veterans don't like those big boats, but it was my son's first time and he had a blast. They got into a ton of Yellowtail, The crew and locals/regulars were super helpful with my kid, showing him the ropes to help him get his first couple of fish. BIG thanks to Heat for the referral!

    What’s the best camp chair?

Another vote for these chairs. At my age, those cheapy 'soccer viewing' models are just a drag on my back. I've got several of these, and I like them. (I also have one of those lounger/recliners, which is quite nice on occasion... )

    Tags In Mail?

Yep, it actually sort of is. Last year was the first time I used it. Didn't read the instructions well, and assumed I would just sort of hit a button on the mobile app and be done. Wasn't until a couple of hours later when my rancher-buddy mentioned it that I realized I had to do that step. Hoping as the process matures maybe they'll just go full-on e-tag. The only advantage is that I don't have to wait for the mail to get the tag. Not a big deal either way, I suppose.

    Tags In Mail?

Wasn't there mention fairly recently of going to e-tags? Using this option for New Mexico pronghorn, and it is pretty slick, IMO. Though it's interesting, because you still have to 'tag' the animal by writing some key info on a piece of paper and tape it to the animal..... Thing that is nice is that I was able to purchase my license online, like normal but I don't have to wait for them to mail the tag. In the meantime, I'll be waiting for my AZ elk tag like all the rest of the lucky hunters.
  16. Both of the pizzas in the last two posts look great, maximus and RNGRDOG! Hector, I'm VERY close to Grimaldi's (Old Town)! Text me sometime when you're in the mood for pizza! I'll buy and we can catch-up!

    RIP 4A

Yep, indeed, something always has to go to make room when the pit is expanding further and further. In the case of the Ray pit, it was prime muley country (now coues, too). Not only do they do away with mountains, but then also pile mega-tons of tailings/overburden all over the place. Would be cool to see what the Gila river valley between Kelvin and Winkleman would look like if the copper mine was never came to be. Can't really speak as to the efficiency wind/solar vs. fossil, and others. Those wind and solar farms sure can't be cheap to put-up, though. (I also wonder what sort of subsidies they might be getting from taxpayers....)

    RIP 4A

The impact of wind farms (roads, fences, etc.) and aesthetics of turbines is interesting to me. I used to hunt in east-central Utah quite a bit while in college and on occasion over the years since then. Several of my old hunting areas that used to be VAST open swaths of land with nothing but hills/canyons/deer, are now crisscrossed with roads and dotted with oil and gas rigs. This is primarily on BLM land..... I was born and raised in Kearny, the son of a copper miner. Dad was an engineer/geologist at the Ray pit, and I never even noticed the tailings, overburden dumps, pit, etc. Was just part of the landscape for me. I remember taking my wife to visit the area for the first time, and she kept commenting about how "ugly" the mine was. I didn't quite get it, in that it was just sort of the way it was. To this day, i still don't see open pit mines as 'ugly', but guess that's my conditioned perspective on it. lol I suppose the way the population keeps growing/encroaching, so will the wind & solar farms.

Help! Big Horn tag in 37B!

There's definitely some folks around here with experience there. For sure start scouting and post what you find (NOT details! lol). You'll likely find some guys here willing to help or share as/if you put in some work yourself. Good for you!!!

My crew and I got tag numbers; 2, 3, and 4 for the 'easy to draw' deer hunt we put in for. LOL Guess we should have put in for a harder to draw premium hunt.... LOL Oh well, such is life. Happy to be drawn for our regular hunt!
