Walking in the dark to your stand...

Ditto, Andrew!!! I hike in the dark all the time in and out of hunting spots. Sure enough, last week while hiking in for a morning of scouting/glassing down south I stepped right over this dude. Funky coloring on it and hard to see in this pic, but it was a RATTLER! Totally had the willies the rest of the hike! Then glassing later, I almost set my hand down on this little Coral snake! WTH??? 😲 S.

    New Mexico elk 2019

Nice going! Thanks for sharing with the site! Regarding the sentiment of "not evening being a little bit proud....", hey man, I say forget all that stuff!!! The way I see it; You went hunting with your father-in-law, spent some great time in the good ol' outdoors, saw some elk, and killed a couple! The outdoors, family, elk, memories. That right there sounds like a great trip to me!!! 😉 ✌️ S.

  9. I spent a couple of hours in that exact Walmart parking lot a couple of years ago when the transmission on my dad's old 1995 GMC gave-out as I was heading out for a Utah deer hunt! 🤣 Was grateful it happened then as opposed to on highway 89 1/2 way between Flagstaff and Marble Canyon..... In my case there was no quick fix, and I ended-up having to rent a truck for the hunt. As mentioned, BIG kudos to you for getting right on it and pressing-on! A good story for the campfire down the road.... Good luck!!!! S.
  10. I'm buying a new (used) house, and was hoping to get a little input from anyone on here who has experience on this topic. The home I'm buying currently has the typical Bermuda grass yard. I want to replace it with desert landscaping, and plan on doing most of the work myself. Question is: For the basic dirt/granite/sand layer that I will be using, do I need to get a bobcat in there and dig down/out all of the old grass roots, etc., then start fresh, including some kind of plastic layer in between the fill-dirt and the 'desert layer'? Or can I just level it and over-lay the new base landscape? Said another way, here are the three options I'm thinking of: Dig out all current grasses/roots, level it, then lay-down the plastic (or other) barrier, and then gravel/sand/granite layer. Simply level it (without digging out current grass roots & such) and then lay-down the plastic (or other) barrier, and then gravel/sand/granite layer. Simply level it then lay-down the gravel/sand/granite layer without the barrier (assuming I would need to do massive weed and grass killing going forward without the barrier). The one thing I don't like about the barriers is I have this vision of tattered plastic sheets becoming visible years down the road. Any experts????? Thanks in advance! S.

    12AW weather

Spent many seasons on that Kiabab Junior hunt with the kids over the years. Some of my BEST hunting memories!!! Never warm up there, and often times down-right cold! Bundle them-up for sure!!! GOOD LUCK UP THERE, EVERYONE!!!!! S. This was one of the colder hunts we had in the fall of 2012. Huddled around the fire! Bundled-up! Sunshade??? lol Greta learning how to do it!

    Bashas

That name doesn't ring a bell. I grew-up in Kearny in the 70s to early-80s. Kelly was the Sr. Haddad's name. I knew his children, but none were named Leo. That being said, I know they had cousins/uncles around the southern part of the state so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a relationship.

    Swarovski Customer Service

I've always heard that Swarovski had solid customer service, and wanted to add an endorsement based on my own experience. I bought a pair of 15X56's a while back that were posted for sale here on cw.com. (I had a pair already, but figured the only thing better than a pair of Swaros would be TWO pairs of Swaros! 🙄) Anyway, on our New Mexico pronghorn hunt last month, the binoculars got dropped and apparently knocked off kilter. The right side was blurry, and would not focus at all. Well, I set-up a work order with Swarovski on their website and started the process to have them repaired. The first thing they did was check the serial number. Since they were registered to someone else, they would not repair them under warranty until they verified with the registered owner that the binoculars were, in fact legitimately sold to me (and not stolen). I really appreciated the fact that they did that. Anyway, after verifying with the original owner that they had sold them, they transferred the warranty to me and proceeded with the repair. I told them that I was hoping to use them for an October deer hunt, and they gladly put a rush on the order. Well, today I got home from work to find the Fedex package with the repaired and FULLY reconditioned binoculars! The binos were a little 'loose' from wear when I bought them, and now they are in absolutely perfect condition! Nice and clear, clean, and tight. They also replaced the eye cups. Anyway, if you have ever wondered, fear not! That company takes care of it's customers!! S.
