Pays to have a VERY smart scientist in the family! Outstanding news that Paul is recovering, Amanda! S.

Awesome! Have you spent time in unit 23? It's got some amazing country! Congrats on the tag and good luck on your preparation and hunt! S.

Follow the link that I posted above. It will take you to the G&F page that has the calendar. On the calendar, you will find the info on the Jr. camp, along with a link to a map! S.

Christian: I'm excited for any youngster that has this tag! All three of my kids (and some of their friends) killed their first deer on the Jr. hunt on the Kiabab! As you've figured-out, there are LOTS of deer there! No hunt is a guarentee though, especially if it's your first time hunting. Here is some advice; I would recommend you check the G&F site and get tuned-in to the Jr. Camp that is always hosted . http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/MentoredHuntingCamps.shtml Especially as a new hunter, they can & will provide you will lots of support/advice (plus usually some decent burgers/dogs)! Here is some information on that camp; Kaibab Deer Junior’s Base Camp When: Oct 9 – 12, 2014 Where: North Rim Grand Canyon (map) Description: Kaibab deer hunting information and assistance, biology and habits, some food, campfire. • Location: North Rim Grand Canyon, Unit 12A, SR22 & FR429 • Hosted by: Buckskin Chapter Arizona Deer Association • Information: Rich Leightner, releightner@ thebigpond.com, (928) 645-9669 As has been mentioned the deer can and will be found all over the Kiabab, especially in early October. We've had the most luck in the mid-altitudes in October (Ponderosa/Oak type of elevation....). As for camping areas, we've always enjoyed camping along the 462 road. There are many 'two tracks' that head to the West off of the 462 (753, 773, 275, 462A) that run on the tops of ridges with great deer hunting in the canyons and along the ridges all along the way. That is our favorite area and has never let us down! Get yourself a Kiabab National Forest map, if you don't already have one. Sincere good luck to you on your first hunt! Be sure to tell us a story when you return! S.

The case was not decided by a judge. It was decided by a jury. Chris Kyle told lies about Jesse Ventura (and published them in his book). Ventura claimed that those lies impacted his income and personal life. Jury agreed and awarded him the judgement. I agree that it seems lame from our perspective that Ventura 'went after' Kyle's estate. Seems to me like he could have just looked to try to get an apology or retraction out of the situation, as opposed to the financial judgement. For me, the bottom line is this; SUCKS that Chris Kyle told lies about Ventura in his book. SUCKS that Kyle's widow/children will be impacted due to the estate having to pay. BTW, I agree with your comment on politicians! Desertbull, that is a VERY intersting point regarding 9/11 orchestration! S. PS: ctafoya: It is OK to say something bad about anyone you want. It is not OK to publish lies that defame someone.

The topic has been debated several times before here....... Here are some links. Looks like the first link regarding genetics has a post from Jim has a couple of sub-links with actual study data. Good luck digging through all of it! Prayers & peace for Amanda and Paul! S.

You guys are hilarious! For the last time, NO ONE IS GETTING SCAMMED HERE! The only reason I won't let it go is because folks insist that I'm getting scammed and/or screwed! There was an ad posted and I decided to purchase. Nothing more, nothing less. No snobbery, no flaunting money, no nothing. It simply bugged me that folks were slamming the seller (and then me, kind of) for doing this transaction. Righteous intent or not, it did not come across that way. I obviously hate scammers too! S. PS: If you think I'm a snob with a lot of money, then you have obviously not seen the 20 year old pick-up I drive or the place I call home. My children and my friends are what I value. NOT money. Classy move to bring my 'mommy' into it though.

I understand what you're saying rugarmack...... Simple economics, I get it. The fact is though that currently the 'after market' market price is what it is (back to economics; supply/demand). You hit on the key point for me at Walmart, which is the IF part of 'if you can get it....'. Each time I go to Walmart I wander by the ammo counter to check and I have not happened to time it right to where they actually have any .22 ammo available. I'm getting tired of waiting until my kids want to go plinking to try to find ammo, only to run all over town for a couple of $8 boxes of 50 rounds. I thought it would be nice to have a couple of bricks on hand for next time, and the price/convenience was good for me. Simple as that. Casey, I kind of get your point regarding guys like me being the ones that are helping drive the 'after market' price up by being willing to pay $50 but I still don't agree with your assessment of whether I got screwed or not. Simple fact is, I'm willing to pay the market (after market) price for the ammo and the convenience of having it delivered to me. Easy for me to afford, and now the kids and I can go plinking any time we want in the near future without running around to hunt for .22 ammo. Not sure why your comments regarding 'giving' me some is even applicable here. Seems like that would be more appropriate if I was begging for ammo as opposed to being willing to purchase it. If your offer is sincere though, I'd be happy to take any surplus you want to give me off your hands as well. (Actually, if you have some bulk .22 ammo you want to get rid of I would be happy to pay the after market price to you too. You could help fund your elk hunt. That IS a sincere offer!) Adicted, I agree the shortage and prices suck. Used to be able to pick-up all the .22 ammo you wanted for $8.99 per brick. Those good ol' days are clearly long gone. S.
-
All over the internet it is selling for that price-range or higher ($50 for a brick..... if you can even get it.....). Am I missing something? (That is a serious question BTW, because I would love to pay less for .22 ammo and have it delivered to me here at my office for that p.) I've looked on-line and looked locally here in Phx. Either way, I agreed to the price and will honor the deal. Just curious for next time at this point.... S. PS: I'm not desperate Bonecollector, I just thought it looked like a deal that was on par with what I was seeing on the internet and was easy for me to get here at my office. When you aquire and sell antlers to someone who is willing to purchase them at the price you set, do you feel like you 'screwed' them? Free market.....
-
Excellent that the Y.O.U. folks are once again doing this camp! They do an awesome job!!! I won't be there, but all three of my kids have gone through hunter safety with Woody, Bill, Dewane, and the guys. They are all great guys and run a top notch camp! Good luck! S.
-
It is, in fact 'spf'. I am the buyer, and will meet him on Weds morning before work to do the deal. I have three kids that love to shoot our .22s and I'm sure they will enjoy! LJS, I'm not sure why you think this should be on backpage, gunbroker or anywhere else. Our huning site has a Classified Ads section. Why wouldn't he post it here? As for your insinuation that he is gouging an honest person looking to have fun shooting, huh? What is he doing wrong? He posted ammo for sale and I agreed to the price. Unfortunately, I don't have time to run around to try to find ammo at Walmart or Dicks (or gun shows or anywhere else.....) before they sell-out each week. The last time I purchased .22 ammo I was only able to purchase two 50 round boxes and they were $8 bucks each. I saw this ad and I work in N. Scottsdale so it is convenient for me. No gouging.... Just a couple of guys doing a deal for ammo. (BTW, I placed an order for 'out of stock' .22 ammo on midway.com a couple of months ago....... Still waiting for the e-mail that says it is in stock and will be shipped.) Casey, I'm not sure why you feel bad for me or why you feel that I bought 'crap'. Save your sympathy...... Frankly, I'm feeling a bit bad for you that you feel the need to jump-in and talk crap and make assumptions about a situation that you have no idea of. Don't you have anything better to do? Cheer-up and try not to be so negative guys! The sun is up and we are all alive! Nobody got hurt on this deal, and once again this great site was able to help a couple of guys connect. S.

islam and Cancelled Flight 297
stanley replied to a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I take EVERYTHING I read on the internet with a grain of salt. Especially when there is no author identified and the 'article' includes statements like 'It is my opinion......'. Inaccurate 'news' from 5 years ago......... S. -
Elkhorn ranch area can be good for camping if you want some other folks around. Good luck on your hunt! S.

I drew 12A west 10/24-11/02!!! Scouting Services?
stanley replied to Gut Pile's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
My thoughts exactly. That hunt is a guaranteed draw with 7 points and greater than 65% odds with 6 points. A wait of 15 years with no deer tag would give you more than max points for deer, and any tag you want in the state. Seems like he's excited to have a Kiabab tag. Looks like he's looking for advice, and not snarky comments....... Sorry Gut Pile, but I don't know of any scouting services personally. Maybe check with Duane Adams though. He could possibly help or maybe give you a referral. Good luck on yah hunt AND with the new baby! S. -
Umm....... Why "should they let us know by now........" ?? You do know the process, right? Why "should" they have to let us know? Sounds like you're feeling entitled to something that you were never promised and that you 'wish' they would let us know, but the fact is that they are following the process and will likely adhere to the dates that were published. Anyone who applied electronically and was lucky enough to get drawn (me included) will just have to wait it out. S.
-
Draw results delay? The only dates I saw published were that you could put in for left overs at 8AM on the 28th and that tags would be mailed out by Aug 8th. Neither of these dates have come and gone yet, so what is the delay???? S.

AGFD news What would you think of a new online club for hunters?
stanley replied to AGFD News's topic in News from Arizona Game and Fish Dept.
Thanks for getting involved and providing the feedback! Interesting idea about the 20% pass. I had not heard that one in either of the meetings I had attended. This is what these meetings are about; Brainstorming and gathering ideas and input from the public! Will be interesting to see where it all nets-out. S. -
Got my first dove of the year yesterday.
stanley replied to PRDATR's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
It's that time of year! Getting thick in the along the 101 Scottsdale during certain times of the day. Often see a near miss or two while commuting! S. PS: Classic PRDATR!!!! -
I agree with rcdinaz and many others on hree. Lots of opinions, but it all depends on the rifle, the youth (and their experience), and the conditions. My three kids all started using simple shooting sticks. (We all still use them if the conditions warrent.....) It seemed like the sticks worked well with them sitting on their butt or kneeling. I would often be kneeling next to them and maybe helping them to initially steady the rifle. Also, no matter what you settle on LOT'S and LOT'S of practice! Here's my little sweetie with one of her VERY early shooting experiences. You can tell it was a bit awkward..... (She sure liked shooting that little Browning .22 auto though! ) Here she is at a slightly older age while on her first deer hunt. She was much more comfortable on the sticks at this point...... Getting some "coaching" from my buddy, Troy! I bought The Claw and tried it a few times, but the sticks (or just the top of a tripod) seemed to work just about as good. My opinion...... No matter what you do, just keep getting those kids out!!! S. PS: Sorry for large pic size. Tried to re-size on Photobucket but it's not working for some reason.

AGFD news What would you think of a new online club for hunters?
stanley replied to AGFD News's topic in News from Arizona Game and Fish Dept.
YES! All feedback/opinions should be shared with the department! Next meeting is tomorrow (Tues, 7/8), 7PM at Bass Pro Shops in Mesa. Will we see you there, Tyler? S. -
New Dove Limits!!
stanley replied to khmer6's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I think if you buy it at a dealer, it will be an actual 'stamp/sticker' that you stick to the back of your license similar to the waterfowl. If you buy it on-line, it is a seperate piece of paper that you print-off and carry along with your license. S. -
New Dove Limits!!
stanley replied to khmer6's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Thanks for the heads-up! Dove season is always a favorite of mine. Always has kind of been the 'kick off' for the Fall's hunting season for me! The last few years have been made that much more fun now that I have three teens that like to get in on the action. Always a hoot to see them go through boxes of shells trying to bring down those little gray rockets! S. -
TJ, I just checked and it looks like it airs again at 11:30AM today then 12:30AM on Friday the 11th. S.
