There used to be volunteer 'ranch trash pick-up' days on occasion, way back in the old days. Used to drag my kids down there to participate when they were younger. Does anyone know if that is still happening on any kind of regular basis? Unfortunately, even when filling-up large containers with trash it was hard to make much of a dent, but still curious if that is still going on.

This resonated with me! Brought back fond memories of my best friend from Utah very calmly coaching/guiding my daughter while buck (doe 😂) fever set-in on her first deer hunt on the Kiabab MANY years ago! Patience, of which I often didn't have when my kids were little, can be key! Super happy for you, Casy!! Hunting with your children beats anything, IMO!!!! BTW, regarding rifles for anyone with small kids starting out, the Remington 7400 in .308 was awesome for all three of mine. The semi-auto action acts as a nice shock absorber. (We always used it as a 'single shot' when starting out, for safety reasons....)

BIG thank you to all veterans, for your service!!! 🇺🇸

Surprised that there hasn't been any 'trophy' pics posted from the past weekend's early hunts. My crew did our usual hunt and ended up killing a couple. Had a couple of old friends come in from out of state to join my son and I & some local friends. Buddy from Utah killed a 2x3 and my son killed a nice 3x3 with good eye guards. Was a great time! Anyone else have some luck on the early hunts? S.

From the regulations: "Legal Animal Definition Bull elk means an antlered elk. Antlered means having an antler fully erupted through the skin and capable of being shed. Antlerless means any elk, any age, without antlers." I don't think 'nubs' shed. Either way, I can't imagine a G&F officer would issue a citation for killing one with nubs. (Plus, the likelihood of running into a G&F officer to even get checked is VERY low, IMO....) Kill one with nubs and walk with a clear conscience! S.

Nice to see that. Looks like the post-monsoon low pressure that came through 3 weeks ago helped as a little kicker, too. Curious if this was an 'average' year regarding monsoon rain runoff that feeds the lake, or above/below. Also curious about current % of capacity? Anyway, it's good, IMO.

Excellent! Gutless method? Pfft.... Who needs that?!?!? 😂

Hadn’t even really thought of that. Should I? Maybe one of the other moderates will catch it and move it…..

Good on you @creed for even considering this topic. The VAST majority of voters just sort of lightly breeze over the 'judges' section of the ballot. My oldest sister was a judge on the Arizona State Court of Appeals for many years. (She retired a couple of years ago, but still volunteers as an advisor...) Starting the election season after her appointment, I used to get a kick out of seeing her name on the ballot and would tease her with a NO. That being said, we discussed the average sentiment of voters regarding judges. She said that statistically, it is basically consistently around 2/3 YES and 1/3 NO across the board on all judges regardless of political affiliation, record, scandal, etc. Because of the general apathy of the voting base, they tend to be basically bulletproof lifetime jobs (as far as being voted out goes). Totally agree with this sentiment! For a long time now, my thoughts on bonus points in general, is that the overall bonus point pool must be SO large that the value of any single additional point is very watered down. Every time someone doesn't get drawn for a species; they get a point. Yay, so does, so does EVERY other person who didn't get drawn. Unless someone is in the group of folks with close to max points for a given species, it seems likely the value of any given additional point is quite low. Generally 'lottery odds across the board either way, IMO....

Cabela’s Disc-o-Cots. Designed as bunk cots, but can be used as singles. Great for increasing sleeping capacity in a tent. Got a lot of good use out of them over the years. Still in good shape, but zipper broke on one of the carrying bags Yours VERY cheap if you want them. S.

Good stuff!!! Hunting with the kids is absolutely the BEST of times, IMO!!!

I didn't intend to comment on the bear. Honestly, I didn't even read the story. Whether I'm OK with it or not, I suppose isn't really relevant. Sounds like they backed out and came back at some point (He didn't say "for days".... In reading his write-up it sounds like it was likely the next day.), and the rain made it impossible to track/recover. Sucks to shoot an animal and end-up losing it. Never happened to me personally but have been on hunts where it's happened to partners. It's a drag. I just saw the father daughter pics and thought it was cool.

Outstanding! Best of times!!!!

Not only are they big, but TOUGH, too! Two consecutive shots and that dude just sort of hop-skips along his way... LOL AWESOME!

Heck ya!!!! That's SUPER cool!!! S.

YES!!! My children are all young adults now, but I'm fortunate enough to be invited to help on a 6A junior cow hunt this weekend. Packed and ready to head-out later today! Can't wait! Freaking love hunting with the kids!!! GOOD LUCK, KIDS!!!! S.

Pretty good write-up on it. Lead weights and lie detectors: The scandal that rocked a Cleveland fishing tournament and became worldwide news (yahoo.com)

Oh boy, I’m definitely no expert. I think whether the water every day or not, it’s really gonna depend on how lush the feed currently is, and whether there is any heavy dew or rain to hydrate them.

Ah..... Bummer! Cool that your initial scouting efforts paid off! No single right/wrong answer regarding whether to continue to focus your scouting on the area you have already identified or to look for a backup. Maybe both? Check-in on that area for a couple of hours and see if you can turn those deer up again. Also maybe try to ID any water they may be hitting in proximity to where you saw them. Then after you've spent a couple of hours on that area, possibly spend a couple of hours looking at new country? Good luck to your son!

Hmmm...... Interesting. Good catch! (Strange that there are NO deer camps listed on their site...) Anyone planning on it should confirm with AZG&F and/or YOU prior, I suppose.
