Yep, for Onx (plus the FarOut app that I'm using for the AZ Trail hiking that I'm doing), it's pretty awesome that satellite capability is there. I would sell my stock in Garmin, if I owned any....

Camping etiquette ( what's wrong with people ? )
stanley replied to Crazymonkey's topic in The Campfire
I never dropped the big money on a deluxe set-up (too cheap and no interest), but I did own a pop-up about 20 years ago. Had it for a few years and it was nice. Ended-up realizing that when we were out camping we mainly spent vast majority of our time outside anyway, though. One day about 15+ years ago I sold it for a little money, then went strait to Cabela's and bought an Alaknak, good cots, sleeping bags, Camp Chef, etc. for the kids and I. That set-up served me well for a VERY long time. Kids grown and on their own, so the Alaknak usually stays home now (Slumberjack cot under the stars is my preferred sleeping set-up, now... ). Anyway, I guess everyone enjoys the outdoors however they want. To each their own. š -

Hmmmā¦.. Interesting. Guess I havenāt been around any of the āhigh useā areas. My crew and I have some places we like to go hide away in (usually down a two-track). Seen a FS rep on occasion over the years, but never had a problem. Seems they are usually just checking for fire rule adherence. Im not familiar with the motor vehicle use map. Suppose I better check it out sometime. š -

Is that how it is now in Cali?? Even on National Forest land?? -
Hector and I teamed-up on it. He also reached-out to Amanda, and she was going to add an additional authentication layer that seems to have stopped the latest bot/spam attack. S.

Thanks for sharing the report! S.

I've been happy with ordering through luckygunner.com. S.

WAY back in the mid-80s, my dad took us on a float trip through the Grand Canyon. Was awesome because our outfitter used relatively small boats (I think 17 footers), as opposed to those monstrous motorized pontoon things.... I remember the experience being about 95% chill floating the days away, with the occasional WILD ride through the various rapids on those little boats! Anyway, I distinctly remember that all beer/soda was kept in gunny sacks over the side of the boats to stay nice and cold. Water was a steady 46 degrees (I think it warmed a degree or two below the confluence of the Little Colorado.). Crazy that the river temp is so high now. Great to see the lake continue to rise.

+1 on BOHNTR's post. That is the definition of 'developed' for this topic. S.

Hated them as a kid (I think it was a texture thing...). Freaking love them now.

More pico and avocados here. With salmon this time. Iām hungry for tacos now. Edit: Lest anyone think Iām some sorta keto nerd, I followed dinner up with a big cannoli from DeFalcoās. š
-
Well, the smoked brisket turned out OK. Paired nice tonight with pico and avocado.
-
Not for dinner tonight, but a little light food prep for the week. Habaneros are getting ripe. Will likely match them with some mangos as soon as I can get to the Asian store for some good ones. Made some pico today with store bought produce (jalapeƱos not ripe yetā¦). Fryās has whole brisket on sale, for anyone interested. Just put this on to smoke over night Downside of sticking with my old garage sale smoker is that it wonāt fit a whole brisket! š Had to cut off the short end. (Will smoke it separately tomorrow nightā¦) Bon appĆ©tit, all!

Every year this sort of thing happens. Generally a function of the difference between a credit/debit card āauthorizationā vs. āsubmissionā vs. āchargeā. Banks and card companies, as well as the card processors have various breakdowns and cutoff times for batch submissions of charges (some are real-time API based). Itās commonā¦.. My bet is that anybody who saw anything from game and fish on their card, pending or not, got a tag No need for concern at all, IMO. (Aināt no super-expert, but Iāve spent an entire career on the IT side of the credit card business š)

Awesome for your son!!!! Are you guys local, or from out of state? (Curious on viability for scouting....) 23 has LOTS of various options regarding terrain, elevation, etc.. Stick around here and you'll get some info to help you. Also maybe do a search on 'youth camps', as I think ADA and/or AES might possibly have one. S.

Nice! I live super close, but have never been. Maybe Iāll have to do a taste test comparison back to back with Grimaldiās someday. š
-
Ya, Iāve been doing that for several years now. Easy to draw hunts 1st/2nd choice. Iām too old to NOT get a tag. (Though even my poverty tags arenāt guaranteed anymoreā¦.)
-
Agreed, given the way things are evolving. My crew and I are basically hacks that just want to get out hunting, often killing the first legal deer that we get a decent shot at. We donāt mind the heat too much, so getting out there for first crack at them IS the crĆØme de la crĆØme for us! Iāve found serenity more accessible in my life when I keep my expectations low.š š

Son and I got our usual early 36... "Poverty" tags!

Boom! Got a charge from G&F.

Queue the twice annual debate about 'Responsible credit card management...', 'Using a prepaid card....', 'Having a separate account just for draws...', etc... š¤£
-
Yup, I'm one of those. A regular 'slam dunk draw' 36 hunter..... I'm holding out hope that not getting a hit doesn't necessarily equal not getting drawn at this point. Hoping (and sort of assuming) that the flood gate of credit card hits is yet to come.

That's really cool. My grandfather was in an artillery unit in WWI (His son, my dad, was a B-17 navigator in WWII). Anyway, I have the wool blanket that my grandfather was issued during his stint in WWI. It comes with me on any colder-weather camping trips and makes a great supplemental blanket for super cold nights. S.

"He took off and ran about 2 miles." Yup, that seems like my experience a lot of the time. Those suckers seem not to mind when I drive by them, but stop the vehicle and boom, off to the next county!! š¤£ Great story of perseverance (and smarts)!! S.
