    Annealing??

Updated response with embedded link. If not, search 6mmbr.com for "The Art and Science of Annealing". The case life is awesome. 6.5 Guys did a test and found Lapua cases to last well into the high 20's on iterations of loading when properly annealed. The best thing IMO is that annealing provides a more uniform state of brass for all the cases in a lot, yielding much more consistent bullet release. Think of a case neck like an archery release. It has to be THE. SAME. EVERY. TIME. for accuracy at distance. Hardness in the brass, is like uneven tension in the wrist, punching the release, and torquing all in one.

    Annealing??

This is a must read for anyone planning to anneal. We want to know why we anneal, and specifically how brass anneals, so we can best plan our case annealing workflow. TL;DR - Brass annealing acts as a reset in regards to hardness causes by work (firing, resizing, etc). We want to reset just the neck/shoulder section of the case. Any further down the case wall and say goodbye to extremities, possibly life. If done correctly and at the appropriate stage of your workflow, yields a more consistent release of bullet and thereby, improved accuracy, and indirectly, longer case life. Link to Annealing Article

    300 AAC BLK Blackout brass

@MULEPACKHUNTER It's not too shabby. Running a Dillon 750 with a Bosch router-powered case trimmer (FF honey badger) and on-press swaging. Pos1, FL resize (RCBS small rifle version), decap Pos2, pocket swage Pos3, empty Pos4, FL resize+trim (GSI trimmer adaptable die + FF honey badger adapter) Pos5, empty I do the sorting and chamfer/debur while watching the idiot box. The wet tumble takes 1500 cases at a shot. stack everything in a dehydrator at 120 deg F for 2 hours Anneallez makes short work of the annealing

    Annealing??

Built an induction annealer a while back, didn't quite care for it. The gains of homogeneous annealing of the brass throughout made minimal difference for the time suck. Annealez works awesome. Can load a hopper and work on other things on the bench while it plinks away. Highly adjustable and simple. The ugly annealer looks to be an improved version of the Annealez, but I don't have experience with it. Gripes about the Annealez are: The wheels, they tend to tack up when warm due to radiant heat from the annealing flame, and direct contact from the cases. Deeper into lots I would notice sticking cases which would upset the applecart The flame adjustment bar was a simple eye bolt. The departure angle of cases didn't lend to natural depositing into the catch bin. I now stand my unit on the edge of my bench and let the cases fall to a bucket with a dog cone around it to catch any deflected cases. The ugly annealer appears to solve all the above.

Looking for raft partners mid June (NM & CO)

UPDATED 6/3/22 Hi All, GENERAL I'm throwing together a last minute trip through the NM and CO (6/9-6-20) and looking for anyone that wants a free float on some of my destinations. Due to some of the rivers I want to float being on, or passing through, private land, anchoring constitutes trespass. While I could eddy-out, i'd rather have someone along to share in the action and rowing so we can enjoy the fishing to the fullest. I admit, I'm still working out details as fast as I can. If I list a section of river that isn't floatable, or exceeds my capabilities described below, I fully appreciate any corrections. ABOUT ME & THE BOAT I'm a novice rower and am picking floats with with Class I-II water, with few, if any, light Class III's. The boat is a Flycraft 14' Guide w/ 8.5' Sawyer Polecat shoal cuts. The boat has cup holders, Scotty rod holders at each seat, a cooler and good vibes. My dog will be taking up one of the seats. She snoozes most floats away so long as she gets occasional scratches. I have 2 PFDs on board (one-size fits all), and of course, one for the dog. As far as fishing goes, I'm an intermediate fly fisherman with a few years experience. I get out 4-5 times a month year round. This will be my first time on most of these rivers, and I don't expect my oarsmanship to match a polished guide experience. EXPECTATIONS My expectations of any passenger are pretty simple. I figure we'll split oar time, but as I'm wanting to get more oar experience, don't be surprised if you end up with more rod time. All you need to bring is yourself, on-time, a vehicle to drop at the take-out to get us back to the put-in, your gear (rods, reels, tackle, etc), food, and a good attitude. For liability reasons, please bring a valid fishing license you can show. Please be honest about your rowing experience. I'd prefer to be the lesser experienced rower between us. I plan on launching early each day (between 6-8a) to depending on float times, and getting off the water around 4p each float. If things are moving quickly, I plan to stop where possible to relax and wade. DATES *I will designate trips with OPEN or TAKEN and update the date at the top of this post. ** DM me for my phone number to get an intro and discuss any slot(s) you want. *** Being runoff has been touch/go this year, some rivers are coming down, some are coming up. If conditions affect day-off plans, I'm working on alternates. 6/9 - TAKEN - San Juan Quality Waters (Navajo, NM) 6/10 - TAKEN - Animas valley (Durango, CO) 6/11 - OPEN - Rio Grande (South Fork, CO) 6/12 - OPEN - Rio Grande (South Fork, CO) 6/13 - OPEN - Arkansas (near Salida, CO) 6/14 - OPEN - Arkansas (near Salida, CO) 6/15 - OPEN - Roaring Fork (near Carbondale, CO) or Lower Eagle River (near Avon, CO) 6/16 - OPEN - Roaring Fork (near Carbondale, CO) or Lower Eagle River (near Avon, CO) 6/17 - OPEN - Yampa River (near Steamboat Springs, CO) 6/18 - OPEN - Yampa River (near Steamboat Springs, CO) 6/19 - TRAVEL 6/20 - TBD - San Juan Quality Waters (Navajo, NM) Edits: 6/3 9a PST - Added alternates for Roaring Fork depending on flows/floatability. 6/3 12p PST - 6/9 San Juan TAKEN

Looking for raft partners mid June (NM & CO)

Update: Floated the Salt River for practice. Snaggletooth and Pinball were pretty mild at 1100 cfs. Heading back out tomorrow for another practice run. Tested out my solo shuttle solution (bike + dog trailer) and didn't have any time or theft issues.

  15. I have a new-to-me fishing raft (Flycraft Guide 14'x4.6') with 8.5" polecats+dyne-lite shoal-cuts and am looking to get out and float some rivers in AZ. I've taken the raft out on stillwater and practiced back row, spin induction, spin reduction, scissor strokes, crawl/crab strokes, feathering, and anchoring. Looking for recommendations on stretches of water to practice rowing in current in central AZ. Debating drifting the Salt below Stewart this weekend while flows are decent. Any insight on the Verde or East Verde relative to a novice rower? Any insights on flows? I've been checking USGS sensor data, but not sure how they translate to overall drift-ability.
