Are hunters managing their own deer herds?tjhunt2 replied to Chef's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer I have to agree with 'wht mtnman' on that for sure but I do agree with some of the other things that have been brought up as well. I have to agree with Bill on his "no" to hunters managing their own deer herds except for those who own or lease a big chunk of land for their own hunting purposes. Unlike javelina, deer herds can take in a very large area. I have been a meat hunter for the most of my years hunting but have converted to holding out a few times and eating tag soup. I do believe hunters can somewhat manage a pig herd but hunters can't nanage a deer herd. G&F have more tools, resources, and still have a hard time managing most of our deer herds. It's not as easy as you think. IMO Good subject and post. TJ

Stalking a deer with a bow and getting that close takes alot of work. A dozen or so things can go wrong. Looks like you and Dad did everything right and congratulations on your bucks. TJ

quartering too shots, ethical or nottjhunt2 replied to azdesert rat's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer I know guys that would take any shot at that range but "imo" you did exactly what I would have done. There is no place in archery hunting for a low percentage shot. You did the right thing. Thanks for sharing and you will get another chance. TJ

One of my New Year's resolutions is to volunteer more and help promote towarwds helping others in the fishing & hunting fields. What better way than to start with attending the ADA banquet to help raise money to help out our deer herds. Peg & I will be there and I know of one other cwt husband & wife team that probably will also but I will not reveal their names just in case they change their mines. See ya all there. TJ

Look what I got to hold tonight!!tjhunt2 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona That is just unbelievable. My congratulations to Harold and thanks Amanda for sharing with us all. Any idea how much it weighed? If only it could talk and tell us how many lions it held off or even killed in it's livetime. lol Now if that doesn't want you to get back out there in the woods and hunt then nothing will. TJ

.280 Remington Load Data?tjhunt2 replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing Not sure if this is of any help towards your goal but someone here at work just published a brand new 49th edition of the Lyman Handloading Manual on our bulletin board. Retails for &27.00 & asking $10.00. I'm not sure if that is a bargain or not. Just thought I would mention it. Good luck with your information and I'm sure someone here on cwt will be able to help you. Later! TJ

I'm glad to see someone finally got caught. I had my first trail cam stolen on this years elk hunt and then talked to an elk hunter who confessed to me he had found a camera and took the chip out to view, since it wasn't locked, and then put it back in the camera. He said there wasn't anything interesting on it. He didn't know he was talking to the owner of it. I explained to him very politely that if it doesn't belong to him then he shouldn't be messing with other people's stuff. I explained had he done this to someone else's tuff and was caught just looking, the outcome might not have been pretty, to say the least. We exchanged names and shook hands. Hopefully I helped this person to be more respectfull towards other's property. TJ

I know a couple fishermen who have been finding bass, at Rooselvelt, down around 50ft. They find a ball of shad on their graph and then jig spoons in 50ft. They have to be brought up slow or their eyes bulge out and die. Also I camped with a couple friends at Apache over the New Years who where catching bass on white jigs off the shore line. Mostly an evening bite. The Apache bass are healthier than I've ever seen them. They look like little footballs. One small mouth was caught which was a good sign to come after the die off. Good luck fishing. TJ
