Brent, sorry I haven't responded sooner. This is the first night I have had a chance to get on here, due to my time spent scouting and hunting, and while congratulating the successful hunters and catching up I ran across your tribute towards your Dad. Thanks for sharing your story of him with us and I know how much you miss him by your post. It is very unfortunate he had to leave this world but he was doing something he loved and I hope I can be as fortunate as him when the time comes for me. Last week while sitting in my ground blind I thought with every lightning strike I was going to die and thought if it was my time why not go doing what I love to do. I was scared to death. I still have my Father but know the days are numbered and I shed a tear every now and then just thinking how it will be when the day comes he is not here to hunt with. My heart goes out to you and I like to think your Dad is looking down from a better place and some day you two will be united and hunting in the happy hunting grounds that the indians have spoke of for years. Keep the faith my friend! TJ

How do you pass the time in the blind?
tjhunt2 replied to capt88's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I spend most of my time being alert to what's going on around me, which is hard to do since you can't see as good as from a tree stand. I keep myself in shooting position with bow on my lap or standing against my leg. Most of my situps are 15 to 20yrds. I have thought of buying one of those ipods but still haven't. I enjoy the piece and quiet and find this time to reflect back on life's expiences, time spent with family and friends, and thanking the Lord for the opportunity at hand. I just spent 10 days on this archery deer hunt totalling up close to 85 hours. I find it hard to stay all day in the blind with family and friends in camp because I enjoy spending time cooking and helping out as much as the actual hunting itself. After everyone has gone home I get servious and put in mostly all day hunts from before daylight til dark in my blind. I keep only my shooting window open with a couple netting windows cracked. Wearing black is a good idea but any dark clothing works. I take along frozen water bottles during the heat and use them to cool off my body while sitting there and always have a cold drink as they melt. Good luck to everyone on the rest of the season. TJ -
Thanks Lance for your illustration of your process. Hopefully I can give it a try this Nov. I usually end up with many pieces as well but will try your method out next time. Thanks again for sharing some of your knowledge with us and I can't wait to put it to the test. Good luck on all your hunts this year. TJ

Dick, what an outstanding trophy and to think you sat 8 days in a double bull in the heat is an accomplishment in itself. I to have put hours in my double bull but not out in the hot sun like you did. You have got to be one tough man to pull that off and deserve your success along with my cogratulations on a fine looking animal. TJ
