    March 21st Too Late????

well i went out this weekend and picked up a few sheds from last year and glassed up a total of 9 bulls that all still bone attached. if it were me and i was only going to have one weekend to shed hunt this year i would probably pick the first weekend in april. kinda depends on your spot though. if there are quite a few people in there shed hunting then the weekend of the 21-23 might be pretty good. probably be some bulls still packing though. i like to let all the bulls shed before i get real serious. i have never seen another person where i shed hunt so time is really not an issue for me. best of luck

    elk sheds

great info, just start looking for muddy quads in the back of trucks. i am heading out this weekend to do a little scouting, see where all them bulls are so i dont have to waste time looking come march. get away from roads and cover as much ground as possible, i like wearing the soles off of boots or the shoes off a mule. good luck

nothing like drinking a beer and watching the sunset at 2am up in alaska! cant wait for summer
  4. tell your dad congrats on the buck. would love to see the one that he missed! yep, 43 inches wide and score right around 240. seen all the pictures, guess it was shot very close to a road and very close to the hunters pickup. pure blind dumb luck, wish i had some of that stuff

    6a muzzy bull

just thought that i would share with you all that my dad killed a nice bull on the 6a muzzleloader hunt this past weekend. not that exciting of a story, but here it is. i found this bull and a few others the weekend before the hunt and hoped they would do the samething opening morning. opening morning we left camp a little after 5 and started the hike and got to the glassing spot at 6 and waited til it got light enough to see. at 6:30 the bulls started working out of the flats and up the hill and i spotted them half way up at 6:55. we moved about 450 yards to get into position for a shot and everything else is history. 170 yard shot and 35 yard recovery. bullet hit a little far back but the bull was quartering away, found the bullet behind the off side should right under the skin. hunt was over at 7:30 opening morning. not the biggest bull on the hill but a definite trophy in our minds. i dont get to hunt with my dad as much as i'd like so this was really special. hope you enjoy. right after the shot, knowing it was a good one! and here he is

    6a muzzy bull

thanks for all of the kind words. i actually forgot to tell you all a big part of the story, my dad was never drawn this year!!!!! the results came out and neither one of us were drawn, bummer right? about a week after the drawing he got a call from a nice girl at the G and F, she had a 6a muzzleloader bull tag and it was his if he wanted it!!! he sent her a check that day and the tag came in the mail a couple days later! he knew right then he was gonna kill a good one! what luck. elkhunter, sure do remember those NAU days. yea there are a few nice bulls in there, there was one on the same hill friday morning but was a little further way and gonna be harder to kill. dad was just as happy with this one!! i live down in prescott now, working for an engineering company. hunting and fishing as much as time and money allows. what about you? still in school up there?

How did you guys do in 6A?

congrats to all that has had success this season. dont mean to highjack the thread but i was wondering if anyone of you have seen many elk while deer hunting? i have the 6a smokepole tag in a week and a half and have been doing a lot of scouting with some success. been spending a lot of time scouting down in the lower country, getting kinda bummed with the 75 degree weather in november. been seeing a few bulls but nothing that i was really hoping for, just looking for a little advice. still got another 3 days of scouting, will be praying for some kind of freak storm! again congrats to all that had a successful season, harvested or not!

    338

that 338 win the is most popular caliber in alaska! i think that is saying something right there, not that you are going to be shooting moose are grizz down here in AZ. when i was up there a few years ago working i bought a 338 RUM and absoulutly love it. makes a great coyote gun when loaded with a the 180 nosler! also did the deed on the muley last year
