Anyone use the Blackhawk axiom stock?

I put the same stock on my 7MM rem mag hoping it would allow my daughter to use it for her deer hunt. In my case, it made the gun heavier and a little off balance when carrying with a sling ( It had the standard synthetic prior). I wouldn't recommend this stock in a high caliber for a new or young shooter. The travel in the stock with a high caliber is very substantial and could possibly be a major factor in the scope coming in contact with those novice shooters that need to really creep up to have a full field of view out of the scope. I wouldn't have noticed this unless my friends at the range took video of me shooting with the bipod down. I had to resort to holding onto the bipod base to avoid the travel. They freaked out when they saw how close it was coming to my eye at first. We had a pretty good laugh after but it could have been ugly quick. I will say the stock for a advanced shooters is great. I could shoot all day with the stock in any caliber. It nearly eliminates all recoil. The pistol grip and free floating barrell is also a major plus.

    UNIT 31 GOULD"S KILL

I was fortunate enough to draw a Gould's hunt in my back yard (unit 31) this season. I encountered several Gould's while scouting for my hunt which showed the population is doing great. The road to Riggs Lake on Mt. Graham is still closed but access to a number of toms was still available. This bird weighed 23.8 lbs and had a 10.5 inch beard. The spurs were worn down to about 5/8ths but I am more than happy with the results. I will be dropping it off at the taxi in the next couple of days since this probably will be my only chance to harvest one in my lifetime. If the other hunter that drew the tag in 31 is reading this post I want to offer my services for no cost. I spent a lot of money and time on scouting and I have a number of roost locations to harvest a tom. Send me a P.M. and I will contact you as soon as possible.

    calling elk during September

I have scouted the last two weeks in 6A south. My usual locations I like to frequent were pretty dried up this August but have received a little rain over the past week. Over the labor day weekend I checked out some area near the powerline off of the 81 road. I heard some cows talking but no bulls. I have failed to locate any bulls and my time has run out. Since I live 4 hours from the unit I won't be able to return until the hunt. I guess I'm just going to hope for some luck. I guess my biggest question is for anyone that has been scouting 6A south in the past few days if anything even close to what sounds like rut activity has been heard? Without any activity I my chances are pretty deminished seeing every water tank in the area has already been claimed by other hunters. Any advice would help.
  11. Are electronic calls legal for elk in AZ? Has anyone had any experience with them while calling for elk? I plan on using a variety of mouth calls for my 6A south bull hunt this September but I thought a recorded fighting sequence might be effective. I can't see carrying around a set of elk antlers with all the miles we cover. Decoys are another issue I could use some advise. I never hear of hunters using them during elk season in AZ but they seem effective in other states. I'm getting anxious for my bowhunt already and it's not even June. I hope the weather cooperates and we get some mucho precip. I'm looking for a giant!

    calling elk during September

Thanks for the info guys. I have experienced the tree huggers before just above Horse Knoll (which I love to hunt). They did exactly what was described earlier, shot multiple rounds all day. I wish Game and Fish could do something about this but I guess that's not going to happen. Thanks again.

    calling elk during September

Thanks for the advise guys. I keep reading mixed articles on calling elk at that time of year (bugle or not to bugle). I'm willing to do whatever it takes to score a trophy. It's seems to be a challenge in that unit to find a area free of road access. I would love to find a secluded area that holds water that would require packing in for the day to escape hunting pressure.

    UNIT 31 GOULD"S KILL

Here is my daughter turkey from the junior hunt. It had a 8.5 inch beard with decent spurs. This was her first hunt and hopefully she's hooked and I have a new hunting partner.

    Son's 1st Coues

That is a great buck! Nice to see Carl and his brothers are going to be hunters for life. I love to hear these kids talk about their hunts at school. It brings back memories of hunting with my father when I was younger. Good job!!

    MINOX 15X58's vs SWARO 15X56's

I found a great price on the old velbon chaser tripod for you guys that might be in the market for a new setup. The tripod itself is an exact match to the 600 sherpa, other than the color, and it is selling for $39.99 on ebay. The cheapest I could find anywhere else for the 600 sherpa was $100 so I thought I would pass on the savings since there were a few left to purchase from this seller. Hopefully I can save a few of you some bucks! I'm not trying to take business away from the site sponsor I just like to be able to save a little when possible.
  20. Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the Minox 15X58's with the Swaro 15X56's. I am going to purchase a pair of 15X this hunting season but I just wanted to know if there is that much of a difference between the two besides weight and price.

    MINOX 15X58's vs SWARO 15X56's

Is there a few that you would suggest? I really have no idea when it comes to tripod setups.

    MINOX 15X58's vs SWARO 15X56's

Thank's for the info guys. I went ahead and ordered the Minox through Doug for $749 and free shipping. I figure for almost a third of the price of Swaros I can deal with a little pain. I just couldn't pass on that price. It will still be a big step up from my 7X50 Steiners. I can't wait to start glassing up some of those grey ghosts for this seasons hunt in 36C- and I guess one or two illegals probably also.
