    Matching mule deer sheds

While I'm waiting for my credit card to get hit my brother said I could post a picture of a set of mule deer sheds he found last week, they have 6 1/2 inch bases , t2's are 18 "and other one is 20", giving it only 24" spread it scores 181, it is a 3x3 frame with a small 3" 4th point on one side I can't figure out how to post the picture from my iPhone 4s. The choose file thing is not highlighted . I can text a couple pics to someone and maybe they can add them to this post

    No! Not a desert muley
  4. I agree ,We all can donate something for the cause , $ ,time labor, organizational skills , I have friends with backhoes, and other equipment.. Legally if we could organize something to make a road to access that public area, i'm definitively in there are lots of areas where the road only needs to be a few hundred feet. Coach , that is a great idea , we all know people with big heavy equipment .
  5. Here is the scenario, A rancher owns a big ranch and owns the access to all the land that he has fenced off, but when you look at the map you realize it is checker boarded , Each colored square representing 1 square mile , what keeps me from stepping over that fence and hunting that 1 square mile that is public property? Now take it a step farther with a good map and gps i can tell you exactly where the corner is and leisurely step over the corner of that checkerboard and stay on public land for miles after all it is public land. The feed back that i have gotten on that is , they call that (butterflying, or leapfrogging the corners )and they claim there is an easement in the favor of the landowner to access those corners, I don't see why its not the other way around were we as the hunter cant have a few extra feet in those corners easement wise. It is my understanding the reason why they created those checker boarded areas in the beginning was to always preserve access to the average person wanting to have access to use OUR land after all it is public land. They think by them buying a ranch with 50,000 deeded acres they have 100% control of the other 50,000 public acres because they fence it ,post signs, and control all access points. What a deal , Buy 50,000 acres get 50,000 acres free.

    Sportsman's Warehouse Big Bull Contest???

I just picked my elk up from sportmans and they scored it at 351 2/8 , i scored him at 351 4/8 so it was real close . They had my inside spread at 52 7/8 and i measured it at 53 , so it all was close Thats to bad they messed your score up so bad My son got first place in the youth mule deer with a score of 147 2/8 and i scored it at 149 , so it also was close I to am curios what the 1st 2nd and 3 rd place elk scored , I was bummed to see so many huge elk come in the last few days of the contest, but oh well it was fun anyways
  10. You are welcome to take your elk down for the contest as long as it does not beat me out! LOL!! Mine is the first elk rifle elk , Its very wide scores 351 . At last check I am still in second place , Some of those archery bulls are pretty big. My son has a mule deer in the youth category. His name is also Mason Davis Anyhow good luck on the contest

    Minox 15x56 binos

I bought a pair of minox 15x 56 binos from cameraland. The good: They arrived very fast, Great customer service My brother wanted me to help him find a good pair of binos in the 400-700$ range ,For the past few years he has borrowed my leica 15x56 geovids and my nikon 12x56 monarchs. So he figured he would try and find something in the middle in a 15 power ,minox seemed like the only other player out there in that price range. I have never seen a bad review on those minox binos, especially for 550$. So i set all three pairs of binos up on tripods side by side,to do a real life comparison. At 120 yards i was reading license plate tabs, the leicas were the best, then the nikon, and a distant third was the minox,In fact you could not even tell what the sticker said, Plus they were very dark , did not gather much light, with the 56 mm objective i figured it would gather more light. I was puzzled, So I looked down the objective lens (the bigger hole), using the direct sunlight to look inside the different lenses and the minox lenses inside had suction cup marks on them the size of dimes, and polish marks that looked like swirls, or hundreds of tiny scratches, The other 2 sets of binos had no visible blemishes at all looking through the objective lens. I was relieved because i figured they were just a bad pair that slipped through quality control, So I talked with the guys at minox in new Hampshire(again great customer service), They paid to have them shipped back , And will send me another pair. So to make a long story even longer , I was at sportsmans warehouse last night and looked through the pair of minox 15x56 that they had, And same problem, very dark ,and hard on your eyes, not even close to the quality of nikon monarchs, for more money , Now there is a chance that those also have a problem and that is why nobody has bought them, plus the fact they are 850$ there. Anyways that is 2 for 2 for minox binos that have me nervous , not to mention the fact they are MADE IN CHINA, in order to get the good ones(made in Germany) from minox you have to spend double the money. I guess it is there ed line, or minobright line. Either way I will wait for this new pair to arrive and hope they are better than the ones that I sent back. If anybody else owns a pair of these let me know how you like yours. I dont expect them to be as good as my leicas but they should be better than the 375$ nikon monarchs(which by the way are pretty darn good).

    Opening morning bull

After months of scouting and game cameras pictures of about 35 bulls and 0 cows , We thought we were ready, but some of my hunting buddy's kept telling me those bigger bulls will leave the area to look for cows. sure enough 3 weeks before my hunt all those bulls are long gone only a few rag horns left. Back to square one , looking for cows, fortunately my brother helped me out and did some scouting for me in a different area and found some cows , we were back in business. Spent Thursday , the day before the hunt getting a game plan for the next day, Fortunately that evening the bulls were making some noise and had a few bulls bugling back and forth. Good enough , gonna start there in the morning.Went to bed and shortly after the wind started blowing pretty hard, we were bummed. Friday morning still blowing about 10 mph, But did hear a bugle , My brother was awesome on the cow call, We got in within about 200 yards ,But he hung up, there was another bull also bugling close by. It was pretty thick so we tried to get a little closer before he shut up all together. We new he was close less then 75 yards but still could not see him. I peeked around a cedar bush and there he was broadside looking at me 50 yards away, A million things went through my mind in a split second .(Its only opening morning,Is he big enough?, aim , relax, Etc), but man he is wide,SHOOT.! It was all done by 7 am. opening morning. One well placed shot to the vitals and he only went 30 yards. He is a beautiful bull, fortunately there was an old 2 track rd close by so we were able to winch him into the back of the truck. After we gutted him , we packed his cavity with 6 frozen milk jugs to keep him cool and put 15 bags of ice on him because it was about a 2 hour drive to the butcher/taxidemist in snowflake and I wanted him to cape it out perfectly for a mount. I was a bit nervous not skinning the whole elk at that time ,But we had it to him so fast that he finished the skinning job with no dirt or hair and he said the meat will be perfect. The hanging meat weighed 420 lbs, a lot heavier then my last elk. A special thanks to my brother for all his help. He is the one in the pictures with all the hair , i am the bald one The inside spread is 51 inches , both main beams are 52 inches, Gross score is 351 4/8 inches

    2 week hunt -

Excel ice cream in phnx sells dry ice for about .40 cents a pound ( excel ice cream 602-258-9793), works great , If you wrap it up in an old sleeping bag and dont keep opening it, Make sure that the ice chest is full ,sometimes I take individual sheets of newspaper and ball them up to take up extra space in the ice chest . You dont want any empty spaces in the ice chest . Also remember anything in that ice chest will be frozen solid, Dry ice is -109 degree.Anything in that ice chest will need some extra time to defrost,or you can transfer stuff over to the regular ice chest a couple days before you are ready to use it and it acts as ice for your regular ice chest. Also keep in mind as it sublimates(turns into a gas),it needs somewhere to go otherwise you will have a bomb, so dont duct tape the lid super tight, just close the lid and wrap a sleeping bag around it. Using this method on annual fishing trips to Mexico we get 7 days in 100 degree temps and usually have about 20 % of the dry ice left Also pre freeze anything going into the ice chest with the dry ice. One more thing we do, is freeze gallon milk jugs as ice blocks , They seem to last quite a while and you can drink them when they melt. Also dont fill the gallon jugs to the top or they will crack when they freeze. Hope this helps.

    DIY Security Box 2

That is awesome , you should place that on a tank in unit 23 , put a non working or a cheap camera inside the box, then place a working camera hid very well with the camera on video mode pointing at the bad camera, i would like to see what tricks the thief's use to steal something as well built as that . Easy for me to say ,take my saturday long project into the woods to purposely let the dirtbags try to destroy and steal. btw that does look pretty bullet proof
