Sports bar in Flagstaff or Williams

Ahh, the Monte Vista! Last year my brother and I went snowboarding for the weekend and stayed there. Saturday on the slopes as we were getting on the quad lift a guy and girl hop on with us. A minute into the ride they lean over and ask if we have any heroin, because apparently we look like junkies I reply, sarcastically, yes, I love boarding around with a needle in my pocket. Unfazed, he asks if they could get some. I say sure, we'll stop after the upper bowl on the left side and all shoot up. At the top my brother and I buckle up quick and get out of there, with them never to be seen again. Or so we thought. Back at the hotel that night after cleaning up, we decide to hit the hotel bar for a few shots before we went out. As we are sitting there enjoying our drinks I hear behind me, "Hey man, we waited on the slopes for like twenty minutes for you. What happened to you guys?" I turn around and see the same guy from earlier. At this point I can't believe it, and decide to see how much fun we can have with him. I say we waited too, and when they didn't show up, we partied without them. He then asks if we have anymore. I say sure, lots. He says how much will you sell it for. I say I don't know about selling, but where is your girlfriend. He says she's in the bathroom, but should be right back. I say, well, we have a room upstairs and maybe we can work out some kind of trade with her He looks at us for a minute, then says he'll go find her and ask if that's cool. As he walks away, we finish our drinks and split out of there, laughing the whole way. And yes, there are a few TV's for the ballgames

    Unit 6A?

    Buglethemin, check your PM's
  3. I was eaten alive by mosquito's this past weekend. Does anyone know of a scent-free bug spray/lotion? Thanks.

    Non-scented Bug Spray

I toughed it out through Fri. & Sat., but Sunday morning I finally broke down and sprayed all over. My brother made it through Friday and drove into town Sat. to get the bug spray. I was a little surprised, there were hardly any bugs all summer scouting, but the mosquito's were thick this weekend. I'll look for the Cutter "odorless" and keep the wind in my face.

    Unit 27

I didn't see 1 hunter in the hills. My brother saw 1 guy Saturday afternoon. We did see 2 guys in a truck driving down the road we were on Sunday while we were at the truck for lunch. Compared to other places I have been, I was happy. Who knows with this weekend though?

    Unit 27

If you want a chance at both WT and mulies, try 6A, 6B or 8. I decided to concentrate in 8 this year, as they have a late hunt in January that I am real interested in. I have liked what I have seen so far. Good luck wherever you end up.

Lets hear about your close calls

I didn't get any closer than 100 yards from the bucks I saw this weekend. My brother had one walk by at 60 yards but never presented a shot. We'll be back at them this weekend. I did have a little fun with the turkeys this past weekend. I saw about 30 on the way into camp Friday morning. Saturday morning I saw about 15 working their way up a ridge, but they were over 100 yards out. Sunday afternoon I was in the same spot but closer to where I saw the turkeys the day before. I noticed 5 coming up the ridge right at me. When the cleared the brush at 30 yards I was at full draw. Since we are talking about close calls, you guessed it, I missed him. Those things don't seem to stand still very long. Hopefully this weekend is nicer to us. Good luck to all.

    What would it take?

Looks like you're in Flagstaff? There are still coues near there. I would archery hunt now, you may run into a buck you'd gladly take in Nov.

Are you concentrating on 12AE or 12AW? What side were you on last year?

I have 2 Martin bows for sale: SOLD!!!! Scouting companions

I think it depends on the dog. You should have a good idea if he will be all over the place and a distraction, or well behaved. I really enjoyed having my lab on scouting trips. We both enjoyed being out exploring new territory, and as said, they can actually help. He'd sniff out all kinds of interesting finds, and was a real bonus in the PJ's, being closer to the ground he often saw legs below the thick stuff that I hadn't picked up yet.

    Bows for sale

I will throw an additional bow into the mix. This is an '01 High Country Split One X1, 28" draw, 4 pin sight, TM Hunter rest, and peep. I could probably find a release and some broadheads in my old gear, too. That's 3 complete bows, ready to hunt, along with a dozen carbon arrows, plus a few extras for only $400 . Thanks for looking. Kris

    Bow or Rifle

I've never hunted with a rifle. It's been bow since I could pull one back.
  20. I was just curious how many people put in for the new draw units. I think that many of the units may have left-over tags. I feel most people would choose rifle over bow, and most die-hard bowhunters will just move to OTC units. The new Jan. 1st - Jan. 16th hunt in 4A & B, 8, 9, & 19A could be interesting. Unit 8 that time of year could be fun chasing rutting coues and mulies, if access isn't blocked due to snow.

I'll also throw in a dozen Easton CarbonAeros, 500 spine, 7.7 gpi. That's 2 bows and 12 arrows for $400. You and a buddy could be shooting tomorrow at a great price.

    Good Day at Pleasant

Net some shad and you will catch all the stripers you want. You'll also be into whites and LMB. The stripers and whites make a great fish fry. Try any of the northern coves at Pleasant, or by the dam for the stripers. We have been picking up alot of the whites in the creek channel by Cottonwood Cove.

    VERDE RIVER

It would be awesome if those smallies take hold and thrive in Pleasant. I just hope they came in through the CAP and not through illegal stocking. Had a great time catching them at Horseshoe way back in the day, even got a couple at Bartlett, but haven't heard of anyone catching any there in a long time. Hopefuly with all the run-off those 2 lakes got a few more washed through there and they take hold as well.
