    VERDE RIVER

Cats are all over the river just below Horseshoe. There are some deeper holes in the area that hold some decent fish. Traditional catfish bait works. I've also pulled some out of the Verde just below Bartlett, but haven't fished that area as much. I'm curious about the smallmouth as well. I remember catching lots of smallies at Horseshoe when I was younger and the lake had water. Now that it has filled again, you'd have to think some smallies have returned. I'd like to give it a try, but not sure if I could launch my boat. I love fishing for smallmouth. My grandparents lived on a lake in Minnesota that was loaded with smallies, too bad the closest smallies to the valley are at least a few hours away. Unless the rumors I am hearing out of Lake Pleasant are true.

    Survey Cards

DCM, I also noticed the same thing. From how I read it, seems if you draw an archery tag and harvest, you won't have to call in to mandatory reporting or have it checked. If you are successful with an OTC tag, it is still mandatory to call in. I don't why they differentiate. Any ideas???

went ahead and broke the bank

That sounds like a real nice set-up. I was curious what kind of speed you are getting out of that? I would love to have a 32" draw and shoot 65lbs, but my stubby arms only pull 29"

    Beeline Highway

It is open that way, just don't know how busy it will be as that is where they are detouring all the traffic.

    Results are out

My brothers and I were skunked, but my nephew was drawn for 6A junior. I'm actually more excited for him than if I were to draw. Yeah right, who am I kidding!! He is super excited, as this is his first big game tag. He has had good luck with draws lately. He just returned from a youth pheasant hunt that he won when he completed hunter-ed. Guess who is going on my application next year.

    fall-away rests

I don't have any experience with the G5 rest, but if it like the rest of their products it should be solid. The Trophy Taker and Quiktune are both good choices as well. I went with the Limbdriver because I have a binary cam Bowtech, and tying onto the cables can mess with synchronization of the cams.

    fall-away rests

I like the Limbdriver as well. Agree that it is very easy to set up and very accurate. There is no tying into the buss cable, which was the biggest selling point for me.

salt and feed no more in 2009

We each take upon our own set of personal ethics. Mine are probably different than yours, and yours the next guy, and so on and so forth. It is up to each person to decide what they stand for. I know this whole scenario with the salt and bait is still just a rumor, but I wouldn't want to see it outlawed. As it stands now, it is perfectly legal, and I have no problem with anyone who chooses to use these methods. Unfortunately, if G&F decides to ban this, we must follow the law and quit using these methods. I know I will probably be taken to task for this, since no one on here knows me and the person I am going to call out is well respected around here, but something needs to be said. If this is made illegal, it needs to stop. If you continue to use these methods after the fact, you would be breaking the law. That is something I would have a problem with. To say, "I will tell you one thing, its not gonna change how I hunt...." and, "Pass all the laws they want, not gonna change me..." , is not saying much for your respect of game laws. If salt and bait is made illegal, but you continue to use it, what does that make you? I hope I misunderstood your statement, but as it reads, you are saying you will knowingly break the law. How can a respected guide make a statement like that? Since you don't agree with it, you're not going to follow the law? I don't follow that logic. Once again, I hope I misunderstood your statements. I know on blogs often what you meant to say doesn't quite come across like how you had planned. I really hope that is the case here.

    Monster Columbian Blktail

Awesome trophy. Way to stick the storm out and seal the deal, congrats. Do they consider the deer in B-zone hybrids or straight blacktail? Also, how is that new Sitka Gear? Again congrats.
  13. I've bowhunted only since I was 14, never have put in for a rifle tag. Dec/Jan were awesome times when I was a kid as I could always count on being out of school and going hunting with Dad. I'll miss those days.

    hip quiver

I personally like a hip quiver. I don't like the added weight on my bow. There is a new product out that looks interesting. It's basically a swivel mount where you can attach your hip quiver at any angle depending on your stalking situation. I'll see if I can find the exact name of it and post for you.
