Anyone have any info on 61 second season deer hunt? I have a tag and have the maps etc......any insight on your experience with this unit would be appreciated.........Allen Taylor......

I use the ballistic tip and it kills very dead........I actually had a ballistic tip in my .257 mag that still went through the deer and it was approximately 60 yards away when I shot it. Entry wound behind right front shoulder and exited through left shoulder with small pieces of copper on the coat. Bullet worked great..........Allen.....

Chihuahua Rough Country Outfitters
coueshunter replied to lucky2hunt's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
I would be careful of any outfitter you use. There are a couple great ones listed on this site and I bet their prices will be reasonable and a few people on here have hunted with them. Ojo Caliente, Duwane Adams, Pusch ridge outfitters etc.......call these guys up and ask them about this outfit. Anyway, for what its worth, I go down each year and know what problems can occur if you are in the wrong hands........Allen Taylor..... -
Darren, those were great bulls and good video.......thanks even though I am tagless as well, they are great to look at.............Allen.....

I shoot a .257 wby mag and use 115 grain bullets.......may switch to Hornady SST this year but so far, the animals die fast with this gun........Allen.....

I personally would get out there now and scout morning/evening. With velvet on now, you should get a better look at what is around now, they hate bumping their velvet horns.........I know there are a few good bucks in 33 but you need to locate them now........Allen......

Thats pretty much what I do, hope my "lottery number" is drawn for a family member and if not, I go to hunt tagless for unit 1 bow elk, Kaibab nov, and Mexico january and just keep on learning. Luckily this year I have a good colorado muley tag that will let me have a chance with a tag in my pocket. Best of luck to everyone on the hunts they have this year..................AT....... -

coueshunter replied to Pigman's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have all the same questions. This is the second year in a row I havent drawn squat. I put my sons in seperate with seperate hunts so I dont compete with them and if they draw, I will just be their guide and not have a tag for the same unit. I put down early coues hunts for me and the boys as 2nd, 3rd, 4th choices and assumed with 4 bonus points I should draw and my sons had 3 bonus points yet zero tags............may need an ACTUARIAL to run the numbers but sure seems like you would draw an oct or nov tag................Allen....... -
Best advice has already been given, Glass your eyes off from a high point down off peppersauce somewhere and then drive the unit. There are alot of deer all over the unit and dont be afraid of the flats.........Allen......
-
Nada for me and my family. Two years in a row with no tags.............Allen....
-
ZERO for the second year in a row........I am happy for everyone else who drew and hope you kill some monsters........I do have a Colorado unit 61 carp tag that I hope to hang on a monster..............Allen........

I just recieved an email saying the AZ-Sportsmen For Wildlife information will be presented to the Arizona Deer Association board of directors this Wendsday 20th at around 5:30 at Sportex co. in Tempe. I know everyone is welcome to go to the meeting and ask questions etc..........I am disappointed that there hasnt been more information out to the general public from SFW announcing this meeting. I am going to try and make it, hopefully others will as well...........Allen Taylor.....

If Josh doesnt know about 23, get ahold of crazyaboutcoues.....Tommy Maldanado.....Gila Wilderness Hunts......he advertises on here and is a regular who may be able to provide the kinda help you are looking for. He does scouting/map service for you and lives in Sterling City or some town over in NM. He should be able to help you out..........Allen......

Grizz: I dont know Dave Chappel but Steve is a very good hunter and his partner Jay Scott is a killer as well. They just came out with a new video that has a 426" bull on it. Steve is a generous man to donate his time to all the conservation groups and this happening is well worth anybody's time. He can teach well.......Allen Taylor......

Chiuaua sp? is of course more untouched than sonora. I would call a couple guys like Jay Scott......602-625-5389.......and see what they have heard.......
-
Never heard of them. Where are they? Hermosillo or Agua Prieta? Are they muley ranches and coues? Let me know and I will get you a couple phone numbers to find out about them..........Allen.....
-
Tony, buy a pencil and a notebook.........LOL......write the numbers down in the future so in the event of this failure you have a back up........Holler at me monday if you dont get the numbers and I have Scott's and Tommy's at my office.........Allen.........

Deer,Predators,and Drought
coueshunter replied to Manamal's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Lark, that is my concern as well. The idiots in upper AZGFD management today are ready to lead a quiet couple years of retirement while we really need them to step up and show us hunters their backbone. I am concerned about extra governors tags given out, concerned about AZGFD looking the other way when it comes to doe tags on the Kaibab and just ignoring predators........sure hope there is no more discussion of landowner tags or this state will look just like colorado especially since the new commisssioner is from there.........hope I am wrong..........Allen....... -
Deer,Predators,and Drought
coueshunter replied to Manamal's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
What really really pisses me off is that this information that is totally backed up by science has been out and available to AZGFD for some time and Duane S. has not taken it forward and effected any change. Remember predator control as we know it is being funded by conservation groups currently. Maybe we should send millions of emails to AZGFD from grass roots people like us and ask some valid questions. It sure seems that information this critical and fantastic for game management should get out to the average citizen .............Allen Taylor......... -
Deer,Predators,and Drought
coueshunter replied to Manamal's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I typed all this stuff below thinking this was a new thread but am to lazy to erase..........LOL.......Allen....... Couple things everyone should know. I believe ADA has been supporting a professional lion killer, Jim Bedlion on the strip for about 6 years. He has killed alot of cats and the strip is benefiting from this work funded by ADA. The three-bar study has been out for awhile and ADA has been putting pressure on Duane S. to support the data. The results are pretty clear, less predators = More deer, especially in drought situations where the deer pile up close to water sources and the predators pound them. As for the Kaibab: make sure everyone has read the most recent study by Logan Simpson group who ADA funded to do the most recent arial survey and present new alternative ways to manage the herd because the geographic area and food sources can support more deer. I think a ton more pressure on AZGFD will be necessary to get them to really focus on predator control. This will sound strange, but the department doesnt want to come out in support of the actual field results on 3-bar because current wildlife textbook management doesnt support the 3-bar results and changing the management model to AZGFD is "Wrong Game management". Well, I say using common sense is the best approach. We see how well the 3-bar herd is doing so lets kill more predators accross the state and monitor the various herds progress before and after increased predator control. It is a no brainer especially when you have lions walking around in neighborhoods....................Allen.......... -
I use 115 ballistic tips in my .257 wby mag and yes they blow up meat but what I like is how they kill. I use a .280 for other game with 150 partitions but am changing to Hornaday's bullet like Brett talked about. Partitions punched through two elk last year for a client and we lost the elk. I love/loved partitions but after that experience I really have rethought partitions. Duwane Adams swears by ballistic tips and I have to trust him thats why I use them in the .257.......kinda like ford and Chevy's.............Allen Taylor..........

My checks were cashed and they mailed me out a Kaibab late tag as well as unit 1 bow elk...........RIGHT.........LOL...........hope everyone draws a good tag........Allen..
