I believe you have over the counter tags for unit 23. I would look into the counties that have produced good whitetails and see if you can get tags over the counter instead of draws. I was over there hunting muleys last year with a friend and I know there are non-draw hunts for residents.......Hope some of this helps......Allen..........

Cork, are you asking for AZ locations or NM? I am sure some help can be on the way..............Allen............

Arizona Coues Association
coueshunter replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I didnt go to the meeting last night due to sickness, but apparently not much was discussed other than reducing the Kaibab doe permits to 500. Also there wont be any bow "Draw" hunts. basically over the counter for bowhunting on the Kaibab will remain the same......I hope to make the thursday meeting in Tucson for the coues organization at Jim Travis's house.........Allen....... -
Coming up at the AMDA annual meeting on March 19, 7:00 pm at the Parkway Inn here in Phoenix will be a vote changing the Arizona Mule Deer Association into the Arizona Deer Association. This is important because now Coues have a focus and people out doing projects and raising money for our favorite animal. Any support from all of you here attending the meeting or providing suggestions would be a great help...............Allen.......

Arizona Coues Association
coueshunter replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Travis: The meeting went well. The new name is Arizona Deer Association covering all deer. We have a meeting this tuesday night with some of the game department people then Thursday we meet in Tucson with Jim Travis and others to hopefully get a plan together on how to best get the coues side of ADA going. I think this is a great thing to get people helping coues habitat and anything else that ultimately supports coues........ -
Jeff: there is a guy who comes on here a bit and MonsterMuley's. Sniper is his screen name. send him an email and I will get ahold of him. He hasnt been on the boards for a bit, but if I find anything out, I will get you two hooked up........he knows his stuff and is a genuine nice guy..........Allen........

Which season for coues?
coueshunter replied to Scott Gorczyca's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I prefer the December hunt due to most of the stuff others posted. Of course rut would be the key. November was a bit tough last year with all the muley hunters and others having drove through the area on every imaginable trail/road on quads etc. Seemed like alot of people hunting last year................Allen........... -
When do you start looking for sheds and do you go and find most in the flats or hillsides or benches or what? I am a new shed hunter and need a little help..............Thanks........Allen............

First Mexico Coues Deer Hunt
coueshunter replied to Arizona Griz's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Thanks Amanda. I went to the sites and found some good information. I spoke to Mr. Adams and right now he has a couple slots left for Sonora, but what I found out was that the ranches he hunts in Sonora have been with him for alot of years, so he makes sure the ranches are not over harvested. He saw quite a few bucks over 100 this past season. He told me that one day he and a hunter saw a buck around 115 but the hunter wasnt hunting coues, just muleys. Anyway thanks for the heads up on two reputable services. I am now trying to figure out how to scrape up the $3,800.00. Anyone want to buy a used wife or kids????????.......LOL...... -
I have been thinking about getting one as well. I am clueless, but of course have heard Knight makes a good weapon..........I know I would make sure the scope it appropriate for the gun so it can take the punishment.........Allen........

As far as I am concerned, it is not a coues. I need to see DNA tests, it looks way too much like an eastern whitetail or a screwed up cross breed. I seriously doubt Boone & Crockett is very concerned about doing any research into it. I am more of the opinion that whoever is more politically correct at the time with the leaders of B&C end up getting entries etc.......for what they want without any standardized process of elimination. I am a member and they seem to be very non-committal on most everything................Allen.........

First Mexico Coues Deer Hunt
coueshunter replied to Arizona Griz's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
I went on my first Mexico hunt last year and did about the same as you, self guided with a ranch cowboy. I got a good buck and cant wait to go again. I was in Sonora, but want to look into Chihuahua and have some more options...........Allen -
I would buy any coues video. As for the Grand Slam of Deer. there is a phone number of 800-237-7583 on the video it says BKS productions. Amanda if you see this maybe you holler at them and get set up as a re-seller so this site gets some money off the video's.

Thanks alot guys/gal. I hope to find a few intentionally this year........Allen

When do most of the coues shed their horns? Is there any difference in the coues drop time between the southern deer versus maybe the unit 23 deer? Thanks, Allen.................

Brent: I agree absolutely with you. It got to be comical how many shots they missed, some of the shots were so hurried etc........It was comical how many opportunities they screwed up. Also watching the main guy, I noticed a couple times that he treated his gun like crud. He would not gently lay it down, it was just dropped like he didnt care if the scope was bumped........Still worth having the video, but sure did make you wonder..............I bought another tape for about 14.00 called The Slam where there are all the deer shot (except sitka blacktail) and the coues part was pretty good. The tape is old, but for the money it is worth it. I will see if Amanda wants to carry it here............

what is the most effective way to bowhunt coues?
coueshunter replied to fuentestm's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I have not taken one with a bow, and am humbled each time I see someone with a coues buck killed with a bow. I am going to try ground blinds this year while scouting for the rifle hunt. I saw a bit of a pattern when the bucks were in velvet and I want to capitalize on their mistakes. I would love to arrow a coues buck.................Allen...... -
I use a .257 weatherby mag 115grain ballistic tips............whats everyone else use????? I couldnt post my caliber on Amanda's question page, so use this post if yours doesnt fit in the parameters........

I have a friend who I believe his wife and daughter both have used the .243 for years. I am somewhat intrigued with the soon to be out .243 WSM. I did buy a used Ruger .243 for my son Travis and this year hopefully he draws his first deer tag. I hope to post a picture of him and he will be using his .243.....
