sounds like i am way out of this league. i just shot my antelope couple days ago at 537, last years kaibab at 630 and the year before at 410. nothing at 700 plus like casey mentioned. if you guys consistently are killing big game at those ranges, i am really impressed. casey, what sort of practice do you do to hone those skills?.....thanks...allen.....

I thought some of the "regulars" on the long range section would post something like how much they practice, the margins of error they achieve in target practice, the thought process they go through before deciding to make a shot etc......after that, I would imagine the discussion would lead to "starting off slow" with shots under say 400 yards at prarie dogs, or some other critter like coyotes. Gradually move up during practice/firearm comfort to 500 plus. On big game, there are so many variables. I have made a few good shots, but still dont really know what you guys consider a "long range hunter". Just kinda curious what your definition is. Allen .............

After the HB2072 battle and some of the other recent battles like Kaibab National Monument proposal, I am curious as to who has either joined a wildlife org or has stepped up in other ways to get more involved????? I am not attempting to embarass anyone, just curious what everyone's plans are going forward. The following are some questions: 1. Will you look to join a wildlife group if you werent involved in the past? 2. Will you look to get more involved in habitat projects? 3. Are you still looking for the "right group" to join? 4. What are you doing to maintain/enhance AZ's wildlife and our kids future????? Thanks............Allen Taylor......................

i was there on the -19 year and man it was cold. i am getting a quarter inch thick steel plate to go over the grate and put a lump of coal in at night. got some coal coming from kayenta....thanks everyone....allen......
-
there is a damper on the front of the stove and a damper on the stove pipe, so yes you can adjust the air flow.....
-
The thought on all of this was for something a little longer lasting through the night than the hardwood I stoke the stove with. If the coal is a good option (maybe using a 1/4" flat plate of steel under the coal on top of the grate) then I will stoke the stove right at bed time with coal so the fire stays going all night. In the morning there wont be much left and I can either scoop out the coal and put it in the metal ash bucket if alot is left over. During the day, you dont want your fire going, only when you get back in the evening......also, the mr buddy heater doesnt seem to work real well at the altitude of the Kaibab. I have a couple and have alot of 5 gallon propane tanks, but for some reason the last 2 years, mr. buddy is really hard to get started. Also, you dont want to run the propane heater at night when you are sleeping, the risk is too high for problems with using up all the oxygen, carbon monoxide etc..........Allen............
-
My thought was that at night, coal would burn longer so if nobody got up, you would still have fire going. two years back we got to -19 on the Kaibab and it is a real pain in the butt re-starting the fire at 2:00 am.............sure dont want carbon monoxide issues so if anyone knows anything to watch out for, please let me know.............Allen............

What a great hunt we had. BrokenBrain shot a fantastic goat, man is it a beauty. The horns flare out showing the diggers real well. The property we were on was really beautiful. Lots of brick sheds/houses that are from over 150 years old. I got to try out my new long range gun and the Leupold turrets work like a charm. What a great time with a good friend enjoying Gods Greatness..................... Kaibab..........here I come.....................Allen...........
