A question about swabbing out the bore after a few shots
Firewater Forge posted a topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
I usually just wet a patch or two to get the "chunks" out and follow up with a dry patch. I have heard of people using rubbing alcohol to swab out the bore but haven't heard just how well it works. My question is does it help break up and remove the fouling or does it dry out faster/better? Let me know what your experience has been.- 3 replies

One of the last guns retrieved from my late Uncle's collection. It is made by Pedersoli, looks like a Remington rolling block but is a .50 muzzleloader. Pull the hammer back, roll the "block" back and there is a breech plug/nipple there. Maybe I am a purist, but this is bizarre to me. I owned a functioning 50-70 antique Remington rolling block and I just don't get the point. Kinda like having a fiberglass sportscar kit that goes on a VW pan.

SOLD- Traditions "Pioneer" .45 cal cap lock pistol UNFIRED
Firewater Forge posted a topic in Classified Ads
This was in my late Uncle's collection still in the Styrofoam packing. It has never been fired (even though I really want to shoot it). It is in pristine condition with the exception of some years of dust on it from being stored in a closet. The kits for these cost $245 and you cannot get them from a vendor right now. So this is the opportunity to get one in great condition. Contact me here for more info and/or pictures. $280.00-

Based on the 1863 Remington. It was my father's gun so I know a lot about it's history. We bought these as kits back in the late 1970's. He put a great deal of care into his and it shows. Made by Italian gun manufacturer Antonio Zoli. It has been in storage for the last 15 years or so. We fired Minie balls and Lee R.E.A.L. bullets that were 400 to 550 grains of weight being propelled by 60gr of FFg black powder. When that bullet hit something, a lot of energy was transferred to that target. We had a lot of fun with these and really set me to shooting BP to this day. Contact me for more details. Cash only. $350.00

SOLD- Civil War Replica .58 Zouave Rifle- SOLD
Firewater Forge replied to Firewater Forge's topic in Classified Ads
It was. We used to "volley fire" them once in a while. Exciting to see that 500gr+ minie smack the target. Very satisfying. Hard to believe anyone could survive a shot in the torso from one of those. -
These are from my Uncle's estate. He was a southpaw shooter. If you are interested, contact and I can send you details and pictures. They appear to be unfired. The .58 is labeled Cabela's but is made in Italy.

I was just reminiscing about past experiences and thought I would share this. Way north of Scottsdale and east of Carefree where the Tonto NF borders both, there is a major forest access road. Around 30 years ago I was heading north on said road and came over a rise and there in the road not 100' in front of me was a small herd of white tail deer. I stopped and we just stared at each other for a few seconds before the turned and ran down a canyon. I sat there for a moment thinking that I could not have seen that since I understood that there were no white tails around here, yet there they were. I've spent a lot of time in the deserts around here and even in the woods north of me and have not seen them again yet. I wasn't dreaming, drinking or "doing" illicit substances, I saw what I saw.

White tail deer in Arizona deserts
Firewater Forge replied to Firewater Forge's topic in The Campfire
I am located in the Cave Creek area. Up until that time I always saw Mulies which made it such a surprise when I saw the white tails. Thing is, I haven't seen them since and I do spend a lot of time in the hills around here. Who knows, maybe I need new glasses? I grew up on Otay Ranch on the border with Mexico and moved here in the late 80's, so not exactly a native I suppose. Anyway, understood about the scammers. They are real hemorrhoids to deal with, but wow, broadside salvo! Heaven help a real scammer crossing your path ;-). I look forward to any and all interactions with you in the future. W. -

Ok. We got that cleared up, no harm no foul. Can I ask, what made you think that? I am not a pro at using forums so if you can indicate what it was I may be able to not trigger a mis understanding. -

Fabulous, huh? That may explain it some. Thanks for the tip on 24b. As it stands I have enough points for a guaranteed draw next time I put in for one. -

I'm not sure what triggered such a response. Is that just the way he thinks he is being funny or is he the type people roll their eyes at when he arrives at a party? Either way it's tiresome. Thanks for your input. -

How does the saying go..... "Haters gotta hate"? Too bad people have such a hair trigger when it comes to insulting someone they don't know. -

They usually get picked up on the 8 and 10 to be shipped off into the interior of the U.S., so you won't see too many unless you find yourself outside a Home Depot early in the morning. -

Many decades ago I used to see a lot of mule deer in the hunt unit north of Williams. Not so anymore. I thought disease wiped them out. -

I don't doubt it, I only saw them the one time. Many herds of mule deer. Of course it took living here 27 years before I saw my first turkey, so maybe I just haven't "dialed in" to them. -
