    6B December base camp suggestions

Weather will be your key. Stay close to FS231 (Woody Mtn road) the spot Adicted pointed out is good, you can check out the cinder pit rd in section 25. For the absolute safest spot the city wells near the arboretium but that will give you a lot of drive time when you go out to hunt.

  6. I was a huge O'Conner fan in my youth and I think Jack would have checked out and tested the stocks but IMO he would have shot what he owned which was most likely solid walnut. X2

5BN Not asking for hand outs just have a few questions???

Be sure and check road status, 5B is set up as no off road recovery of elk, and you will need to know where you can go and not go. Here is a link to some road maps I placed in another topic scroll down to 5B. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/32658-coconino-forest-travel-management-plan/ They may have better maps now but the original maps the fs handed out were worthless. Good Luck in your scouting and on the hunt.

5BN Not asking for hand outs just have a few questions???

Think Rim! Anderson mesa holds a lot of good elk herds water will be key if it's a dry summer and the "burn" has elk all night long you just have to catch them coming or going. The "burn" look at your topo map and find Yellow Jacket Canyon scout the rim top and bottom from the power line to the canyon. Good Luck tough (but fun) hunt.

    Stray Cats

It worked once Stuttering Cat - as explained by a Grade 4 student A teacher is explaining biology to her 4th grade students. "Human beings are the only animals that stutter," she says. A little girl raises her hand. "I had a kitty-cat who stuttered". The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could become, asked the girl to describe the incident. "Well," she began, "I was in the back yard with my kitty and the Rottweiler that lives next door got a running start and before we knew it, he jumped over the fence into our yard!" "That must've been scary," said the teacher. "It sure was," said the little girl."My kitty raised her back, went 'Ffffff!, Ffffff!, Fffffff,' but before she could say '#@%!!,' the Rottweiler ate her!" The teacher had to leave the room.

    Son shoots Dad

It wasn't that long ago when 2 brothers hunting elk in N Az had a similar tragedy. One stepped in front of the other as they were shooting at some running elk. This unfortunate incident involving a 12 year old and his father is simply unfathomable. Were they doing it right NO but you know it was a family enjoying each other and .... My Prayers are with them tonight!

In My Opinion Participating in a "Government" gun buy back because you believe that criminals have too many guns, is like having yourself castrated because you believe that the neighbors have too many kids!

    Rabbit

Strange! Today I was approached by a guy who wanted to find a butcher shop that sold rabbit. Back in the day we ate a lot of rabbit growing up and I'm sure it was available from most butcher shops and in the field. In todays world I doubt any butcher (fine meats) shops carry it but didn't know what to say, so I told him walk the rail line (Burlington Northern in our neck of the woods) and hunt his own rabbit's. I hope a lot of youngsters are still out there hunting them up.

    Gobblers late in the season

Turkeys are wierd. Some years their going crazy before any hunt and others their just starting up mid to late May. Weather, Feed (snow pack) and temps can all impact when they fire up, so I wouldn't fret too much over missing the first hunt.
