Actually the first hunt is 7days long the second hunt is 7days then after the second hunt everyone drawn for that hunt gets to hunt the remainder of the hunt, normally two more weeks. Now I'm not a turkey hunting expert by any means but in general the hens are laying on their eggs by the first week of May. Hens can have up to three nest attempts if earlier nests fail. I don"t believe it matters at what elevation you hunt. Here is a picture of a young man I mentored last years youth hunt (a week prior to the opener) at over 9000 ft elevation. Personally I like the later hunts the older bigger gobblers are easier to call in because they are not with their hens. Good luck which ever season you choose. Awesome picture!!!!

Quote from Fitzgerald, "Yeah, it was great to drive around seeing all the Cardinals flags flying in peoples yards and now they are all gone!!! We need to play ball and get those flags flying again!!" No matter what you gotta love Fitz!!!

Is there any type of quick reference on the AZ website that a person can look at and determine what hunts are going on in a specific unit? Example: Unit 27 Oct. 3, 2016 What hunts are going on in that unit today??? We were out scouting this past weekend and ran into a truck loading up hounds and a couple of guys packing rifles walking back to the truck. Just wondering if there is something that a person could look up without having to go through all of the regs for each specie???

Yeah ... a lot of hunts open just figured the Loading Hounds kinds of limits what they may be hunting. When my wife asked me what they were hunting I said.....lion of course, but then I didn't know for sure, could have been bear......so it made me wonder about the quick reference idea........

Cool pics and a nice find in the antler department, always fun to trip across leftover antlers. That is an amazing view over 3B you have there!!!

I used to work at scheels when I was in college. They are very good about training their employees. We had product education almost every other night. If you didn't know your stuff you got fired. It bothers me to no end to go into cabelas or sportsmans and see this little dorks who don't know a magnum rifle primer from their sisters titty try to sell me something. What is the difference all of the big box stores no matter whether it is lumber, Wally World, Richards.....lots of incompetent people walking around collecting paychecks Are you talking about WALMart or the White House? I will take advantage of your observation and declare both......plus that place in California that wasn't open!!! all of those places have people that don't know and don't care because are at minimum wage or just above it. And are getting paid too much because they don't know and don't care!!! I always have been happy with service and product at The Outdoorsmans there in Cave Creek.....I mean....it ain't 25000 square feet but they can answer your questions and help you find what you are looking for........

What started out to be a beautiful day turned into one muddy, slippery, slidy mess but we had a great time......even with Cole!!! Well.....coleshead!!! What started out to be a cloud free sky by noon had turned into a drizzle that was beautiful but presented several challenges that is the stickiest mud I have ever encountered!!! Great times!!!

You can be sure.....if my kid is out in any unit and he has a shot at a 200" buck we ain't leaving it for the guys who have worked for it!!! Just saying if he got in position to shoot a 200" buck he deserves to let the lead fly!!! No animals out there have a reserved for the guys that have worked for it. I am not a big fan of the father guided youth hunt where everything is set up for the kid to pull the trigger but if they are out there "hunting" they deserve to shoot as much as any hard core hunter out there!!!
-
If killing the animal was the whole focus of the hunt then some of you are really missing out on hunting......lots more to hunting than just the kill. None of my boys would ever hunt again if it depended on success.......Lord knows I have botched many a hunt with them, but the kill has never been the "focus"........

23 has been a top 3 choice for a good majority of applicants for 30 + years ... Unit 10 it was only a matter of time until the herd size grew and it started producing Quality Bulls in Good numbers... I will give you, that the popularity of 10 was probably sped up a few years do to Articles and Internet postings showing Both quality and Quantity. I would not go that far for 23. I blame location mostly for 23 masses..........but if you are an outsider applying......23 pops up pretty high on the list!!!
-
If I post up a 380 that I killed in 4a will you all start applying? Will an onslaught of others apply to the point that 4a becomes like 10 or 23? Do you REALLY believe that? How do you think 10 and 23 got to be the way they are??? I'm not saying it is the only cause or effect but they didn't get to be that way by people keeping their mouth shut!!! I might change my number one choice if all the sudden I start seeing pictures of big bulls being taken from Unit 4a, for sure!!!

Stupid enough to hit the same place twice and stupid enough to walk into a pawn shop........true bottom feeder criminals.....nice job tracking them down!!!

Hope Montini loses his job..........OK that was mean but honestly.......Arizona Repulsive.......

I think the internet does contribute to how many applications there are for a specific unit, so in that regards I do think it affects draw odds............but like you said it is kinda silly but to think it doesn't affect number of applications for a unit would be a little off the mark as well. Especially when you think of out of staters or uniformed instaters who are wondering what unit to apply for the internet becomes a quick source of information which you can also get numbers from AZGF......so it does become a moot point. I don't blame people for not saying but it doesn't bother me to say......
-
Winkem tells blinkem, blimkem tells nod and nod tells barney!!! I never have trouble telling people a unit number, but there is evidence out there that loose lips have ruined good honey holes. People just get paranoid and have good reason to want to try and keep a spot off the radar. Human nature? One thing that we rarely talk about on CWT is the fact that our state over the last 50 years has seen an incredible population boom. Our Elk and Deer get hunted hard by large populations from August through January........
