    Up hill shot aim low?

Now that is my kind of math...not always the most successful, but definitely something I understand.

    Shed hunting dogs

Willie and I tried to train a blut tick hound to find sheds. Spent alot of time out in the field training. My brother trains search and rescue dogs so we used some of his techniques. It is true that getting your scent to not be a factor is the greatest challenge. We used gloves, we left them out in the field for days hoping that our scent would evaporate or something. That was seven or eight years ago and to this day, in a controlled environment she will hound them out every time, but you get her out there in the wide open spaces and she just goes bananas over everything else out there. We had tons of fun messing with trying to train her..................good luck.

    31 - stumped

I agree with DB on this, it was very hard to focus on the hunt knowing dang good and well I really couldn't afford to be out. We used some of our savings to go on this last deer hunt and that is usually taboo using it for stuff like that....... Get yourself charged back up and get out there and thump a biggun....

    Short trip to unit 27

Good luck Snap.....let me know what the elk look like over there, we are headed that way for the late hunt. Snap brings up an interesting point that just about sunk my ship this year. We been checking southern units for the last couple of years but the price of living and paying for gas....we almost didn't go. Buying the tags is one thing, paying for the trip is getting pretty dang expensive. Gonna have to start hunting closer to home.......

    Range Grass

Speaking of mearns....I am pretty sure that is what scare the crap out of me on top of the ridge I was on Saturday....had some chicks and a couple of adults fly out from under me......fun to see. 20-30 years, guess that is a drought huh??? Fun to see the grass but man makes it tough to see those jack rabbit size coues....

    Range Grass

On one of the threads earlier there was alot of discussion about grazing and over grazing. After hunting down in 34B this past weekend I dare say there is a serious fire hazard lurking around the corner down there. Seems like there could be a happy medium. Is it always like that down there or just an exceptional rain season? Plus, I thought there was alot of dead shrub, trees etc. is that due to the bark beatle or just plain drought? Enjoyed the hunt and the scenery, went for a tour up French Joe canyon, beautiful hike and drive but rougher than all get out.

    Arizona trees and shrubs??

Very interesting, I will be able to go home and tell my 11 year old how that ring got around those plants like that.....we were out glassing/hunting this weekend and of course he was asking all kinds of questions, and I really didn't have an answer for him on that one......who would have thunk....a twig girdler......

    Hunting accident, need prayer

Good job of keeping your head enough to take care of the situation, it always crosses my mind as we head out to the hills thinking we are prepared for anything. Thanks to the main man. Jeff

    Unit 34B

OK, I'll admitt, I didn't read the regs before I applied. It has been 20 years since I hunted 34B and now that I have tried to scout out the area a little I have discovered that there is a huge write up in the regs about all the closures on the Whetstones. Last time I was there we hunted up in French Joe canyon, but it appears to me that with with the northern portion of that range closed off that will throw more hunters into that area than usual. I have never been on the west side of that range, anybody have any feedback on that side of the mountain? Are there places to set up camp, call home base etc.? I will be headed down there to check it out myself, just looking for a little direction before I tank up with gas and head that way. White 79 Ford short bed 4 X 4 if you see me out there be sure to stop in and say hi......... Jeff

    Prop 2 in California

I don't usually watch Oprah, but was interested in what she had to say about animal rights. California has a proposition up for vote, I am not sure if it is in addition to what they already voted in, or if this is their version of AZ Prop 204, but it is an interesting battle between animal rights and how meat, eggs and milk are produced. Oprah actually did a pretty decent job of trying to present both sides of the story, bottom line is getting the public to sympathize with the animal and their rights. Again, the general public has no concept of what it takes to raise meat and eggs and no concept of how well most of the animals are taken care of across the board. I am sure there are some shady production lines out there, but think of this... Why does most of the things I buy in Wal Mart come from China.......so much regulation here that we would just as soon let the Chinese work in sweat shops to produce all of our commodities......yep we regulated it alright, right out of our own country. One thing that was funny is at no time on the program did anybody every really show any sympathy for the animals getting killed for our meat eating pleasure, just that their stay here on earth wasn't a joyful experience for the animal.

    You Catch Anything?

Kind of like the dog training book I was reading on how to potty train your dog..........if you dog eliminates on the floor do not spank them.............what the heck does eliminate mean???? That book made me laugh..................eliminate........Oh, hold on a second honey while I eliminate.............
  19. That is way too funny...................maybe they don't have a stem cell................ can not stop laughing........

    White Tail Unit 27

Seems to me like back in the day there used to be 7-800 permits in 27...and maybe that was mule deer, probably, but there is a ton of country out there. If it looks like you can't go there.....you are probably in the right spot.....
  22. Maybe you guys have hashed this out earlier before my time and I don't have a trail cam but I am interested in it....kind of a facinating hobby type thing. Fun for kids to get involved with, placing cams and checking them, kind of like trapping, but catch and release. What are maybe 5 most important things to consider when placing a cam.... Is it water? Maybe you have located a "general" bedding area, what do you guys look for when you set a cam up? Duh....maybe a well used trail????? What is most important??? I read an article written by Randy Ulmer, top ten most important things for hunting deer....."glass where the game are" was like number 3.....my boys and I got the best laugh out of that pointer......so don't give me the, "put the cam where the game are"....answer

    You Catch Anything?

Dang it...and you just had to mention it was in Snowflake right....you couldn't have left that small detail out......but wait....that is critical because "Snowflake" hasn't lost touch with......well, OK, maybe we are losing touch with.......... Sorry about the poor representation from the Snowflake area.......it is kind of like the lady who asked me if we really ate the deer we killed......I asked her where she thought the steak dinner she was eating came from......... Lots of out of touch people........ gauchoand.....next time you are in Snowflake, holler and I'll go catching with you
