Unit 1 & 2 Bull Elk Deperdation Hunt
Non-Typical Solutions replied to AZLance's topic in Elk Hunting
I'm kinda curious are they also hunting that massive herd in Nutrioso??? Last weekend there musta been 300+ in that pasture! -
I know my buddy that guides is pretty beat up after the hunts all finish up, lots of hours out there but I know he enjoys it for the most part! I guess I wish I knew as much about where the animals are as they do but then again.......I don't spend as much time out there as they do

I dove into a couple of his antler hunting videos and while he did find some awesome antlers I couldn't understand all the rings......but hey he's good at finding antlers!!!!

It is kinda interesting the way different people approach hunting, I remember scouting 3A/3C from the day I knew we had tags.......spent a lot of time out there and just like everybody told me, they were not there come late hunt! Knowing that, we planned multiple options knowing that their pattern would change! I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of relocating bulls and putting a hunt on! Were they record class bulls.......not really, but it was a heck of a fun hunt and I wouldn't really want it any other way! Lots of solid information has been shared already on this thread! Good luck with your tag................

Why did I think this was gonna be about NoBull backing out on a cash in pocket bear guide? 🙃

Took my Ash Fork basketball team to his camp one year! We were from small town nowhere and he treated us like we were special! I had 5 kids there while other schools had 30-50 but he didn’t make us feel any less! I loved his philosophy and methodology! Good man! RIP Coach!

I remember back when the power plant was working up in Page....they had a quota and ......well ......... it wasn't necessarily as per skill, ability or showing up to work.....

What You Should Carry & Why
Non-Typical Solutions replied to Western Hunter's topic in Western Hunter and Elk Hunter Magazine
Good write up. I had to leave my wife and her mom on a hillside deep in unit 27 one night! Her mom went out with us but got suddenly weak and couldn't move so I went back to camp to retrieve help. Because we make a practice of packing all the items you mentioned we were prepared and while they were not happy being left out there, they had supplies necessary! Things can go south quickly out there in the hills!- 1 reply

Having experienced a broad spectrum of both human and animal...........I have enjoyed working with very user friendly mules/horses/dogs and some that I wouldn't even mess with! Very enjoyable to have good animals! Requires time and consistent training, most people don't realize that when your dog doesn't run up and jump on people they got trained to be that way, it didn't just happen over night! When you have a mule that will stand while you throw a buck on its back and an antler pokes him in the side it didn't just happen over night, lots of time spent working with that animal to get it to stand still and not be bothered! One of my very first mule experiences happened in the Gila Wilderness as a kid, watching a mule run full speed ahead, bucking and wrecking every single supply that was on his back as he raced through the forest! We had borrowed the mule under the premise that he was pack worthy and well trained.......but we learned different! That happened on day one of a 7 day venture! Remaining eggs got rationed, and we ate fish we caught instead of the grand meals we had planned! I'm not putting all the blame on the mule.......we shoulda done a better job of packing things so they couldn't get so busted up....we were very rookie!!!

Well said, I really enjoyed having a schedule similar to my kids! Watched every football game, wrestling match, music recital, deer season, turkey season, elk, javelina and fishing trip! Wouldn’t trade any of it! Teaching ain’t for everyone and Lord knows it ain’t easy but it definitely has its rewards!

While I agree with most of the initial post, there are some great benefits from being a teacher, one of them is not lots of money and the other is not half the school year off! And yes I enjoy my career and have figured out how to live off of two teacher salaries that add up to what most would consider the amount of pay for one profession! I didn't walk out on Red For Ed because it ain't my belief or style and I am thankful my school district chose to keep working! I started out in 1990 at $19,000.00 a year, my wife the same so as a couple we made $38,000.00 a year! After 30 years I make $45,000.00 a year! Most professions comparable years of college plus 30 years would put me somewhere up at least 80-90K without my wife working! I have built cabinets, worked that pig farm, Home Depot, during the summers to supplement my "days off" from school teaching! I ain't saying things are right in education because I have my own personal beefs with the system but don't throw all teachers under the bus.........there's a bunch of really good teachers out there that spend a lot of time trying to make a difference in kids lives. I ain't complaining, just trying to shed a little light on money, days off and I don't doink the principal!
