Frustrating......I don't spend any time where the burros are but I know the "wild horses" are out of control number wise on the Salt River and Heber herd as well.....

Interesting to me how they set things in place, wolves, burros, horses with a population cap and then have no real plan for managing that population and then end up with an overpopulation........pretty simple math....... The estimated wild burro population in the Black Mountain HMA is more than 2,200—nearly four times greater than the target population of 478, creating impacts to landscape health and wildlife. Additionally, wild burros have wandered onto private lands outside the HMA seeking food and water, causing public safety impacts on area roadways as well as private property damage. For these reasons, local communities have requested that the BLM address the wild burro overpopulation in the Black Mountains and return the HMA to its target population level.

This means the Forest Service is actively seeking public input before making “the final selection of the management strategy” for the Heber Wild Horses herd. This action is significant because it is the long-awaited result of the 2007 litigation initiated by horse advocates to halt a proposed round-up of horses on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The legal action included a stipulation that the Forest Service “collaboratively engage the public to complete a territory management plan for the Heber Wild Horse Territory,” according to an earlier press release from the US Forest Service. This is the first draft of the required Heber Wild Horse Territory management plan. The comment period “ … provides an opportunity for the US Forest Service to introduce and explain the approach being considered and solicit input,” reads the press release. The Forest Service’s proposal “will guide future management of the horses and their habitat, including setting an appropriate management level of wild free-roaming horses for the territory,” also according to the release. The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests’ Supervisor, Steve Best, then “makes the final selection of a management strategy for the Heber wild free-roaming horse herd and habitat.”

Looking for any information on FS 26 from Beaverhead into Buffalo crossing on into Brentwood! Has there been enough snow for that area to be inaccessible? Trying to get some work done in at Brentwood! Some years we’ve been able to get in there others no chance!
