    9/11 Never Forgotten

Unless they decide to tear it down some day because it hurt somebodies feelings......never forget and may the memorial stand as a remembrance of those who were killed and those who sacrificed trying to help others!

    Getting Distracted by Elk

It works like this....during deer season, elk are every where......during elk season deer are everywhere.....when I am antler hunting rattle snakes are everywhere and that causes me to be so severely distracted that I walk past all kinds of antlers I am sure of it!! Ever watch Old Yeller.......he lets a squirrel distract him!!! It is easy to ADHD when you are out in the forest......focus grasshopper, focus!!! Good luck out there and be safe!!! And guess what is all over my trail cam picture now that turkey season is long gone....yep...turkey!!!

    Remember This?

I have the first amazing "how did you come up with this" for the new school year! The competency assignment instructs the student: Using a square, draw a 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" square on your 2" X 4"! Using a wood chisel and a mallet, chisel out the square to 1/8" depth! Of course all competencies are demonstrated by the instructor prior to the student having to perform the competency! The block on the left is a sample that was performed by one of my students! It is as close to perfect as you can get from a 7th/8th grade student and it is well done! The block on the right is one of my students as well that obviously is confused as to what 1 1/2" X 1 1/2 inch is as well as 1/8th of an inch! The middle square that is obviously not the correct measurement was the students first attempt and the other two, second and third attempt! Moments like this always makes me feel like I must really suck as an instructor!!!!

What to do after snake bite?

We get in a pretty heated discussion about this every time we are miles from anywhere hiking........good topic and good info! One thing that for all outdoor ventures is always let somebody know where you are headed.....just in case!!!!

Travel Route -- Peoria to Eager

Gotta weigh the odds...is it easier for you to get to the BeeLine HWY or trek on the 202 over to the 60??? My wife hates Salt River Canyon, my son who lives in Gilbert prefers to go through the Salt River Canyon......Payson route always gets the vote in our family!!!(wife)

What to expect on unit 10, Sept 8th Antelope hunt

If you haven't spent much time in the unit you will get frustrated with locked land, houses etc. in places you wouldn't think! At least take the time to make sure the spot you are trying to get to or wanting to hunt doesn't fall into that category! I have not hunted antelope in 10 but have been disappointed many times through the years to find places that were accessible are not as accessible as they once were! It has been ten years since I hunted 10 so maybe that isn't the case, but history tells me there is a chance it has gotten worse! Good luck with your hunt!!!

    Speaking of Wolves

Here is the whole article, I probably wasn't fair to the wolf program making fun of him being off road, he could be on a ranch somewhere. It is interesting though they are trying to find ways for quote: Instead, the Range Rider program focuses on the practical and thorny problem of how to successfully raise cattle in wolf country. The intentional reintroduction of wolves into a wild landscape shared with people has created a practical need for a new kind of relationship with the animal. Instead of killing wolves, how do we live with them? http://www.wmicentral.com/news/apache_county/ranchers-find-unlikely-partner-in-defenders-of-wildlife-group/article_2b1f1113-ab2b-5daf-835e-ebc155184f3e.html

    Scouting 3a3c

As we head into the stretch here scouting and all I am reminded of a time when RagHorns old man had the same tag! RagHorn was supposed to be up high keeping an eye out while his old man was down in the cedars below! The only thing RagHorn was keeping his eyes on was the backside of his eyelids!!!! Looking forward to return the same help here in a couple of months!!!

    Interesting Big Game Ranch?

Great group of people trying to do this and I guess because I have never been on any kind of a guided hunt or paid anybody cept G$F for the privilege of hunting anywhere! I guess I was just puzzled by the amount of room being allocated to hunt something thinking that it would be like shooting something at a large zoo. I do hope they can pull their dream together and it works out for them, interesting concept!

Proposal for Wolves in Grand Canyon

Kinda like what PineDonkey said about Big Lake Road........for those of us who really enjoyed that area, it ruined that stretch through there....way more traffic.....fast traffic.....

Proposal for Wolves in Grand Canyon

That will eventually happen in my mind......could be way off base, it just seems to be one of those little chink holes that is just another step away from no more hunting.......I know...hysteria setting in......

Proposal for Wolves in Grand Canyon

That eco-system is not the same as it was back whenever you are talking about! For me personally it is about money being spent to "re-introduce" a specie that is questionably not the "specie" that supposedly inhabited this area at some time! How many of us portion off a section of green grass in our yard to allow prairie dogs and gophers to live happily? They used to live there happily! Hunters(this hunter, me) see their opportunities diminishing as the map gets sectioned off for a wolf that as the program evolves will eventually go where it wants to no matter what the wolf people say, that has already been proven!
