    Glassed up a nice one

I was happy to find this while hunting 34A last weekend. Though the hunting was tough and we must have see at least 50 does but no decent bucks. I saw this rack about 1/4 mile away with Swar. 15x56. It scored 89 gross and I found several other old sheds.

    Kaibab Hunt Help

Steve, You guys should do just fine. But by all mean contact Duwane. He's a straight shooter and knows every nook and cranny on the Kaibab. I hunted 12A almost every year during the 1960s and early 70s. Back then, it was first-come, first served on the permits, with an additional $5 charge and no split between the east and west. Also, permits were for ANY deer. The doe in the 2nd pix is one my son killed there when he was 10. Although I've hunted about every area of the plateau at one time or another, the area just up from the Houserock ranch on the Eastside Game Trail was always my favorite. It's also where I killed my largest Kaibab buck in 1965. Below is a scan of an ol' print from back then. -TONY And..on the wall Tony, I love the Old Vintage Photo. It reminds me of great memories as a kid hunting Kiabab with my dad. I remember sitting at Jacobs lake lodge 1980 or so, watching all the hunters come in with Bucks all over their trucks. I remember seeing a horse trailer come in with so many big bucks on top, you could not tell how many deer were up there. Well in my entire life I have only drawn one 12A East late hunt and lucky me it was a blizzard that year. The hunt was rough and cold. I did not get a deer. I continue to put in every year and I hope someday to enjoy a big buck like yours from Kiabab. Until then I will live vicariously through your success. Thanks... Tom
  5. I pulled a 36B tag in Nov. and It's the first time I've been there. It was my 5th choice. I've always been a Unit 22 hunter. Does anybody have any sudgestions where to start. I've read what AZGFD had to say but I already know to look in the mountain ranges. I'm looking for a more specific area. I'm taking horses in, so I'm looking to get away from all the road hunters. Thanks in advance for any info... I know some great areas in 22 for anybody interested, here is my 22 buck from 3 yrs ago...

    Hunting in Unit 36B

Sad to say, I picked up the Sierra Vista/Nogales Ranger District F/S map. I have used F/S maps for more years than I care to remember covering almost every western State. This is without a doubt the sorriest excuse for a map that I have ever seen. By a good magnifying glass to go with it. Better yet--invest in a computer mapping program of your choice. I have both All topo Maps and topo USA. National Geographic is excellent from what I hear also. Good Luck--BOB I went to that ranger station on a Saturday and they were closed. I'm still looking for one of those maps. I do have topo USA on my computer and GPS so I 'll be fine. Thanks for the advise... Tom

    Hunting in Unit 36B

We will be camping on Wise Mesa and heading west on horses from there. I will be in a white Ford F350 sportin a coueswhitetail.com sticker, pulling a three horse slant. Hopefully if I camp out in the open the illegals will less likely want my stuff. But that was a good idea to leave some gifts out for them so they don't break in. See ya all out there...

    Hunting in Unit 36B

Thanks, I was down there last weekend and found some nice bucks 100+ and I did see a lot of illegal activity. Makes me worried about my camp site. I'm going to stay as far north in the unit as possible. Let's hope for the best...
