  1. Last week, I figured I didn't get drawn so after a few days I decided to check my credit card. There was a hit for $300. I literally sat there for a few minutes in disbelief....oh...oh....as I frantically search for the regs to check pricing to confirm. Sure enough its a sheep tag. Then all the talk about cc hits being taken away, add that which unit I got. I didn't dwell on it too much(as if I couldn't), started to tell some people that I may have a sheep tag. I just logged on my portal, sure enough. My first choice was 45c, Kofa National Wildlife refuge. I have tag #4 for the December hunt. I have always assumed it would take forever to get drawn, for the first 10 years or so I probably put in for 22 and 24b, until I realized that was never going to happen in my lifetime. So I would listen to various podcasts and randomly put in for units. This year I put in for Kofa due to the tag number, I figured it would help my odds. I had 19 bonus points. But still thought it wouldn't happen till I had 25-30 bonus points. I am at a loss of words, I am very excited but already feel overwhelmed and unprepared. My first thought was to post here to start getting some feedback. I'll go get some maps this week. I did a search on hike az for hikes, there actually doesn't seem to be too many hikes. At least at first searching. So...How should I prepare? I feel like I have a good base of equipment, I have been hunting coues deer for most of my adult life. So I have 15 binos, 10 binos, but no spotting scope. Should I look for one? I have a good hunting backpack. I'll increase my exercising, good benefit of this is I need to lose 20 plus pounds. Very soon i'll need to actually start to head to the unit and see it. I read somewhere where someone said to contact the Bighorn society. I will take all the advice and help I can. I don't want to make anyone hate me....but my wife got drawn for late bull in 3C this year. Our plan is to give it to my 13 year old. That hunt runs from 12-1 to 12-7, then my sheep hunt from 12-8 to 12-31. Hopefully work understands! Added a picture of my boys deer I am getting very excited!

    Morning Visitor

Quail hunting one time and came across a baby, it was real hard to not pick it up and take it home. Would have fit in a pocket. Second, I volunteered with G&F a few years back with their tortoise study. They had tortoises with radio's glued to their backs. I was shocked how many there were. In a square mile we had like 10-20. They would send us out in groups with a tracker. We would find one, put it in a bag and take it back to the cars. While we were walking back to the cars, the others would proceed to find the next one.
  3. I have a Greener trap gun I got from my father, it does not eject spent shells. He never got it working correctly. Anybody recommend a good shotgun smith?
  4. Thanks for the advice, I like the idea of helping a November hunter. Since this will be my only chance to take a sheep I should probably go with a guide. Any recommendations? How do I know someone is reputable?
  5. Im looking for a youth semi-auto 20 gauge, anyone have one they are willing to let go? SJ

    Range visit

25 years ago, my dad and I found a dead one not far from a G&F office, it must have just been ran over. We took it to G&F. They were pretty upset and said we shouldn't have picked it off the road. We just didn't want more cars to run it over and ruin it. We thought they could get it stuffed or what not. Eventually they thanked us for it. But man, next time just keep on driving.
  7. Getting into archery, an early archery bull tag will do that. Just kind of looking for tips on what I am doing right or wrong. Anybody know someone that can help me out. I just purchased a bow and have been shooting in my backyard.

    Archery lessons?

Come on guys, give me some credit, I've had a bow for a few years, nothing special. I got drawn for archery bull and decided I need to step it up a notch and do some serious practice. I went and got a new bow and have started shooting pretty much every day in my back yard. My problem is I feel like I pull to the left, a lot. I just don't want to be teaching myself something wrong. I'm in Mesa

    3C early archery Guide??

After years of not getting drawn, I finally have a tag. I actually switched from early rifle to archery. I'm a little nervous about the whole archery thing. Because of this I am looking into the possibility of hiring a guide. Anybody have someone they recommend? Anyone to avoid? A buddy told me a couple, I just want to see what you guys say? I am excited for this fall. But I feel like I need to determine quickly to do this on my own or with a guide.
  10. Just saw this, I don't see it anywhere here. http://www.sportsmensalliance.org/news/arizona-bill-ban-mountain-lion-bobcat-hunting/

    ***SOLD***

Im looking for a new family tent. How old is it? I found a 10x10 online that says it fits 6. Would that be what this is stated as? How long does it take to set up?

    Hunting Dilemma

I reached a milestone age and decided to give myself a nice hunt. Will probably go for a guide. What would you do? I am debating between a black bear hunt or mt lion. I even think, what about a coues deer on the res? That might be my last choice. I'll post the same thread in the mt lion section. I have not gotten either one.

    Hunting Dilemma

Im not really sure what my budget is. I need to look into prices and see what I am willing to pay. More then likely I would just stay local. Of course I do have some family in southern Alberta. I would lean toward mt. lion. I was checking out guiding services for here.

  16. So as of this draw I have 17 bonus points. I usually just hunt with family. But the last few years I keep thinking this is my year. Don't we all! Here is my problem. IF and thats is a big IF I get drawn do I go for a guide. To me hunting is not about the size of the animal but about the whole adventure. But I feel like a once in a lifetime hunt I should go for size. Once I get drawn I will go back to putting in for cow hunts for my second choice, with a trophy hunt/late bull hunt as a first choice just in case I get lucky. Next question: How do you determine which guide? P.S I put in for 23 north.

    17 bonus pts...what to do?

I agree with this. Again I don't necessarily care about size, but a 350 bull would be nice. I've looked at the odds a little, but is it really easier to get drawn for Archery then rifle? I did the early rifle bull. So, are you guys saying if I did the early archery bull I would have a better chance of getting drawn? Two years ago I bought a used bow from a friend to try going after deer when I didn't get drawn. Anyways, I got a lot of time to sit and daydream about drawing a tag.
  18. That looks good, but what looks better is the 40 behind it. Are you on mud? As my name says I have an 87 FJ60.

    My CC got hit

Mine got hit yesterday on the 11th for $104, I would assume that was for my whole group of 3 tags. I was also charged $22 back in June.

    Two down plus a question

My brother and I went out, 30 mins into it and we find pigs. Two quick shots, two pigs down. After we get to them we hear some screaming. We think maybe one is wounded. Turns out it's a baby. This is the second time it has happened to us. The first time a few years ago the baby wouldn't come close to us and looked older. This time the baby would come right up to us. If we scratched the ground it would come running to us. It looked days old, still had an umbilical cord, well it looked like one dragging. We both shot boars so its mom was somewhere. We thought about picking it up and taking it to GF and see what they would do. In the end we left it there and never touched it, hoping its mom would find it. What would you have done? It was a cute little guy.
  21. I posted this in the optics section then thought more people would see it here. I'm going to buy a range finder here soon and would like some of your opinions. I don't quite want to spend the money on the Leica so I am debating between the Nikon Monarch Gold 1200 and the Nikon RifleHunter 1000. Differences that I see are: Gold - 7x mag, 1200 yards, - reviews state it is well built RH - 6x, 1000 yards, - about $100 cheaper. The major difference is the RH has the angle compensator. Is this just fluff? Do I get anymore out of the Gold for my hundred dollars? Your opinions please Sean

    Coues Cape

I would be interested in it if you still have it. Sean
  24. I should have posted this last week, I shot a deer last year that I wish I would have mounted. If anybody has one or shoots a deer and are not going to keep it, I would be interested in it. Also anyone recommend a taxidermist. Thanks Sean
