Howa 1500 30-06 with free set of FL dies, $SOLD. The scope/mounts aren't included Less than a box of ammo down the pipe. Mint condition except for a few scratches on the bolt knob (AR15 knocking around in the safe). I zoomed in and pictured them. Sportsman's has them for 500$/tax so I figured this was a fair price with dies, but OBO. Located in central PHX, 12th st and Indian school

Good question. It's a crosshair/plex reticle.

Great condition. Old made in USA Redfield. Wasn't sure what to value so I checked EBAY. There's one sold a couple months back for 115+shipping so I figured 70$ is fair. or 80$ shipped to you. OBO Located in PHX Indian school & 12th st. https://www.ebay.com/itm/144337661972?hash=item219b31f014:g:e4wAAOSw8mJhv3ey www.arizonahuntingforums.webp

Ah, thanks. I didn't realize it was only if money was involved.

I wonder if any are still up and/or active without being able to hold contests. I love calling, it's most of my hunting, but not sure what joining an org entails in this day and age now.

I'll take the 760, sending pm

Haven't fished anything besides the canal since moving here, been wanting to move on to the lakes. Looks like there's yellow and white bass in the lakes, and I'm thinking to target the spring spawn. Question is- for those who have been there, is a float tube a bad idea? Lots of high speed traffic? I mostly just stick to the edges of lakes I fish with it, try not to get into people's way. Any suggestions on where to launch? Looking at the map, I think the back coves look promising, maybe down "Castle Creek Drive"? Doesn't look like a "launch area" but maybe I could find a spot to hike down? Thanks in advance, hope this isn't considered E scouting just hoping to learn a bit more of what I'm getting into so I can be prepared!

Thanks for the heads up!! I'm not married to the idea of Lake Pleasant. It's just the closest I think. I live in midtown PHX Was planning to go calling next weekend (almost the end of bobcat season) but might blow it off to catch the spawn

Lol, this is not encouraging feedback but I think I'll still might give it a shot if the wind isn't bad. If you never see me post again, you'll know why 😱

Looking for experiences of anyone who has a 30 06 and a 30 magnum (I'm looking at 300PRC in particular), and if the difference is worth the cost of setting up a new caliber. Got a suppressor coming in (4 months waiting so far). I have a Weatherby Vanguard that I love in 30-06. I handload, shoots .75 easily. But it's not threaded, and that's a $140 expense at minimum that I've seen. So, I have been thinking of selling the vanguard (or maybe keeping it) and getting a new rifle. While I'm at it, I'm thinking of upgrading to a magnum caliber (300PRC is what I'm looking at; Bergara or Xbolt), instead of another 30.06 threaded. I shoot steel out to about 800 yards currently (learning windage, dialing my scope out as well) but am interested in stretching up to 1200 for practice, and getting comfortable hunting up to 1000 eventually. That's the goal, at least. I figured a magnum might be worthwhile for this endeavor. Any thoughts? Worth it, or am I just chasing marginal gains for more recoil, expensive brass + scarce magnum powder, and the expense of new dies?

Thanks man, feels like this is pretty close to the info I needed. Seems like you've been through it all before! And just to clarify y'all I love my 06. A few years ago if you asked me I'd tell you it's the last rifle I'd buy. But since I'm getting something new and threaded (so recoil isn't an issue), and am a lot more interested in long range than I was a few years ago, figured this was a good point to upgrade if the difference would be substantial at my projected ranges.

Dang that's wild. Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like you've had both- do I need to do anything special to a 300wm off the shelf to load it up to max potential? I understand it'll become a single shot with the longer bullets, but have heard chatter about needing to do something to the chamber or barrel throat.
-
Why would you go with 300WM over 300PRC, if you don't have dies, brass, or a rifle for either? Brass/dies are similar price (Lapua), same primers, and the rifles are the same as well. Seems like the PRC just has brass that lasts longer without the belt and factory barrel throat and mags are made for the longer bullets. Am I missing something? Edit; I would venture to guess there might be more load data out there for the winnie, though
-
Why is that? I would have figured the other way around, given the belted brass of the 300wm and the difficulty finding 300prc off the shelf. I handload almost all my rifle ammo

Totally with you there. I've got a Zeiss V6 which tracks perfectly. Thought about getting a NF or tactical style scope but the reticle would be more of a pain than a boon for me. I have a nice rangefinder (sig) but no chronograph. I use a calculator and BC+ drop values to estimate velocities. I have the Strelok app and a few others. Im a little worried that shooting my 06 too much won't be helpful if I move up later; I imagine a lot of the wind intuition will remain, and the numbers can be adjusted for drop for the new load, but the time might have been better spent using the final cartridge and learning how it behaves in wind specifically. I agree recoil can be an issue. However, I'm specifically going for threaded, and won't shoot without either a brake or silencer, which significantly reduce the recoil. A magnum will kick less than my current 06 with the muzzle devices, so I am not concerned with that.

Good choice, you'll love it. Just don't dry fire a bare lower 😝
