This is what I have learned over the years. Factory barrels no matter what you do will not clean like a match barrel. With that said I use to shoot 1, clean for 10, then shoot 5, clean for 20, ect. Then I tried it on another barrel just shooting it. Both barrels broke in or not were still a nightmare to clean. Then I bought a match barrel. I did a shoot 1, clean for 3 rounds, then shoot 5, clean for 20, and believe it or not it takes me about 5 minutes now to clean ALL copper out of my barrel using a bore scope to inspect. So when I just did my last build I only did the shoot 1, clean for 3 and she is probably the easiest to clean. I have used numerous bore cleaners and have found that Proshot 1 step cleaner and lubricant, and the copper cleaner helps KEEP your barrel clean for longer shooting sessions. I clean the carbon out with the one step and then bore scope to see if I need the copper removed. If so I then use the copper remover with a nylon brush only. then back to the 1 step and patch till dry. IF I ever own another factory barrel I will slam my head against a wall. They just will never come clean because of ALL the tool marks. Now getting a factory barrel lapped maybe a great idea.

In 2010 on my last archery elk hunt the bulls would not answer any calls so my dad and I knew we needed to get in front of elk or wait at a pond. Over a week of nothing working and hunting are arses off, we were traveling a ridge stopping every 200 yards or so in the jeep to listen for bugles. We knew the elk traveled north of the hwy to bed so that's what we did was travel north. On our 3rd stop we heard a bugle back towards the hwy. A few seconds later he bugled again and we knew he was heading our way. I grabbed my bow from the back of the jeep and turned around to see a cow and calf run right behind us about 80 yards, I turned towards my dad and he was gone. Wondering where my dad had went and hearing the bull getting closer I knew my dad was probably heading towards the bull. I figured since I had seen the cow and calf that IF the bull was by himself he would get their scent and follow or if he was with cows the cows would follow the scent of the cow and calf I had just seen. So I got set up hoping they would head my way and start ranging various spots. Seconds later I seen the whole herd only problem was they were 200 yards away but for some reason they start walking right towards me. After about 15 cows I see the bull and man seeing a 48" wide bull walking towards you is something. I look down and realize I am on a trail, I follow the trail with my eyes and yep sure enough right where the cows are. CRAP they are heading right at me. The bull at this time is about 60 yards away and I am soooo freakin excited I can't draw my bow. I look up and 5 feet away the lead cow is coming but she stops, looks around (while I am still trying to draw and worried she is going to see me moving) then turns back up the trail. The bull is watching as each cow single file follows the lead cow behind a down tree. I knew how far the down tree was 35 yards (oh was I wrong)I finally get the bow back just in time to softly cow call the bull to a stop behind the downed tree. I release and watch my arrow glance off the tree. SH*T SH*T SH*T my only chance and I F*CK it up. why how!!!! then I see the bull stop again at what I thought was 60 yards, I release and miss again SH*T SH*T BUT the bull is acting weird and could not explain what was wrong with him. The cows are still waiting for the bull and he stops a third time at 70 yards, I am at full draw and release.....WHACK and literally he falls over. I turn around and see the jeep 20 yards behind me, turn back around and see the bull dead, NOT moving dead. My nerves were so shot my stomach starts to tense up so much I dropped to the ground laughing and crying. "it hurts, it hurts" is all I could laugh and cry about. My dad comes running up seeing me on the ground and he thought I had shot myself or stabbed myself with an arrow. "YOU OKAY" he yelled, "OH GOD YOUR MOM IS GOING TO KILL ME", He asked "why are you laughing?" I told him "Look at the bull" he about craps himself when he looks up and sees this bull laying there DEAD. Then he does just as I do and looks back at the jeep and says "Well this will be easy." We of course high five and look at the bull. I see blood leading up to the spot I LAST shot him. I must have hit him at 60 yards so I walk back following a NICE blood trail to me 60 yard arrow. ITS CLEAN? What the heck. I keep following the blood back to the first shot where the arrow glanced off the log. Of course the arrows was in pieces but when I did finally find a piece it had blood on it. I hit him my first shot. So we gut open the bull and my first shot hit his main artery under his spine and basically he was already dead at the 70 yard shot. Get this the 70 yard shot was a heart shot that's why he fell. I have never felt so many emotions during a hunt. I will NEVER forget that moment, that day, and my dads face...LOL.

Cost more to reload the 6.5x284. Cases are more. You use more powder. Barrel life is an issue but its not since it is easy to change out barrels. I have been wanting a 6.5x284 BUT here is the break down. I have all the cases dies powder and bullets for the creedmoor but I do not have the Cases (about 200.00), Powder (about 200.00), primers and bullets i have, dies (easily 300.00 whidden), new annealing plate on my annealing machine (about 75.00) for the 6.5x284. So you see it would cost me A LOT more money to load the 6.5x284 and really only gain 100 to 200 fps? I am getting 2800 fps with the cm. I will stick with the cm for now. Maybe later I will. -
IMO Promaster carbon fibre tripods are the best out there. Top it with a Manfrotto 501HDV head and you have a smokin sweet set up for a reasonable price. Amanda sells both in the CWT.com store.

Which rifle stock and why?
willhunt4coues replied to Stickflinger76's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You cant go wrong with a manners they are very high quality and they just FIT. You know what I mean when I say fit. You have most stocks out there just don't seem to be comfortable, and fit you good. Manners do. Lots of guys that have held my gun says man that feels good. Just says something about their stocks. Mcmillan are also a great stock just again mcmillan, HS, bell they all feel the same just don't feel right. Thats my opinion though. Only bad side to manners is dang I dropped 1000.00 on mine and you can easily drop 1200.00 for a folder or carbon. The carbon fiber EH1 (I think thats the model) was the one I wanted only weighs in at 26 oz and that with a chasis system but did not have them in stock and would be a 3 month wait. -

Here is my 500 yard group in 7 mph winds. 1" to 1 1/4" (I did not measure but close to this). I can not believe I lucked out not having to do load development and my old loads work. LOL The Sightron SIII 6-24X50 FFP LRMOA scope review. I am not to great on wording reviews so hang in there with me. I have owned a lot of scopes from Valdada, Nightforce, Nikon, Vortex PST, Vipers, Diamondback, Leupold mark 4, ect. When I saw that the Sightron were light weight, affordable, GREAT tracking, ect I had to get one. The scope is very lightweight but build very well 25oz. It does not have a zero stop but does have revolution marks. Optical clarity surpasses most expectations. Tracking is by far the best tracking scope IMO built. The retical is so accurate with the spot in the center. Okay here is what sold me on the scopes besides weight. The Valdada I had an Nightforce were all great scopes but the weight and tracking ability are nothing like this scope. I did a tall target test at 100 yards. A tall target test is where you measure out from end of barrel to 100 yards (or 300 feet) with a long butt tape measure. LOL. You have to be precise in this measurement or you will not know if your data is correct. You then put up a tall target (50") and draw a vertical and horizontal line with a level. You will then need to make sure the targets vertical line is leveled when securing it down. Next you fire 3 rounds at your target at the bottom (which is your aiming spot) and make sure the gun hit PERFECTLY center. Forgot to mention you have to also make sure your scope LEVEL is plumed perfectly if it is off by 1 degree this tall target test will let you know. Then dial up the scope 30 moa. Making sure your gun and scope is level fire 3 rounds at the same spot you did the first time but your shots of course will be 30 moa higher and should be on the line. If your shots are off to one side or the other then your level is off. You then measure from bottom 3 round shots to the top 3 round shots. This measurement is then calculated. example: 1.047 is a true MOA Range (100 yards) X Elevation dialed (30 moa) X Constant (.01047 moa) = expected POI 31.41" next calculation: Expected POI (31.41") / actual (31.75") = What your scope actually tracks (.98929134 moa) So here shows you that your scope is .98929134 moa and not 1.047 moa. So you are more than 1% which is fine but you need to put this data into your ballistics app so it will compensate for your adjustments if not you will miss a shot at 1000+ yards. So now get this I have done this test multiple times on all my scopes and Sightron was only 1% off. Some will hate me for this but its in the data and a fact that the scopes I tested were all more than 2%: Valdada 3%, Nightforce NXS 4%, Vortex PST 6%, ect. This may not be the issue with all scopes but as soon as I tested the Sightron and seen the numbers, clarity, parallax ability, weight, ect I knew these scopes were a GREAT buy. So I did just that buy buy buy. I now have 4 of the Sightron and all are within 1% tracking perfection. I sold ALL my other scopes and went with Sightron because once you try them you will understand what I mean plus I saved a lot of money. Sightron claims to have the industry leading EXACT TRAC and they are not lying. But it does not have a zero stop. I could understand if I was in the military or in some matches where I never looked at my scope and just turned it but that is not the case. I know by the revolution indicators where my zero is and it is the same on all my FFP scopes. Another this to add is you get a lifetime warranty that you will probably never have to use. All my Vortex I have ever owned I had to use the warranty which I do not want to use because I should not HAVE to use it. Sightron also offers a custom shop for your scope to change stuff. Lets say you do not like the exposed turrets on the windage and want a cap they will do that for you. One more thing to add the FFP comes with 80 moa of adjustment (thats what sightron states) but believe it or not all 3 of mine came with 91 moa. On the SFP I have it comes with 100 moa of adjustment (thats what sightron states) but again mine came with 107 moa. Also you get flip up end caps and a scope shade. Turrets are adjustable to zero. Comes with a generous eye relief also. If you are hesitating to get one dont! Get one as fast as possible you will LOVE it. Hope all this makes since I know I get to babbling but its hard for me to put into words my thoughts... Feel free to ask me any questions about any of the parts. I really do my homework and love researching. -

Yes I was just talking to my dad about this but I am afraid to do anything to it. I have always wanted a suppressor and have the money just am iffy on doing anything since she is shooting so good. I probably will never get that good of a group again at 300 but I know it can. Now to try 500 on paper. And then onto 1000 on paper. I wanna see her potential as long as my potential is there. -

Go figure. I went out to shoot her today and still have over 60 rounds for the other rifle I sold. I took some measurements and everything throat headspace is the same as my last rifle so my rounds should at least work. They did better than work. ES of 9 fps and SD of 3. My 100 yard 3 shot group. My 300 yard 3 shot group. Best shooting rifle I will probably ever own. -

Great idea and its a great market. Just some info. If you do guns you can not do actions, receivers, ect without an FFL. Also you can not take apart the gun without an FFL. If you have people bring you stocks, scopes, accessories then you can. Just be careful so you do not get into trouble otherwise get the FFL. Just some info to consider.

Thats why I went with the Shilen. I like all the gizmos on the mauserfield though.

Great info Craig!!! Its so true. I found though the Panasonic DMZ-FZ70 will OPTICALLY take pictures and video out past 100x . It also is only about 300.00. I was going to get a spotting scope but with a side to side comparison with a swarovski spotter and the camera it out zoomed with clarity. Just something to give a try to save some money. Thanks again for the vid, -
Also I forgot to add the Tubb level and atlas bipod. I was going to go with the PRS Atlas is there a reason you are going with the older model?

I am doing a similar build with the same concepts as you. Here is my list everything is ordered and on its way, Shilen DGR action and base Shilen SSS match 26" 6.5 creedmoor barrel Shilen trigger Manners T2 stock in Gap with MCS-DBM Valdada Rings Sightron Siii 6-24X50 FFP LRMOA scope. I will start a thread as soon as Items start arriving tomorrow. I have knoticed a lot of action manufactures are going to the floating bolt head or like design with savage threads for quick change. I love it really a good market to build. Have you seen the Mauserfield action.
