New Long Gun Build
willhunt4coues replied to MULEPACKHUNTER's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Okay now here is the question I have how heavy in the mcree stock? I see you have the hand grab (costs extra) but this is about the same stock I want and was really wanting to know how heavy the gun is overall? Thanks, OH YA SAWWEETTT setup. -
Congrats again to you Sara and Beau for making her dreams come true. Like I said last night you now have a hunting partner for life...

Berger bullets for hunting
willhunt4coues replied to hunter1026's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have just bought a Remington 700 .308 SPS AAC-SD Tactical and have been using Bergers in my Howa M1500 .308. The 700 did not like them at first. I shot a 5 inch group at 100 yards and this being a bull barrel knew I could get better results so I seated them to 2.820 and took my group to 1/2 moa (recommended COAL is 2.810 but I had mine at 2.800 that's what my howa likes). So if you do decide to get them get you a COAL gauge and email berger for the specs on your bullets. They will send you all the info for what powders to use and a guide for COAL. I will tell you at 200 and 300 yards your grouping even gets better than 100. I have shot many steel targets and when a berger hits them they almost swing upside down. You will not be disappointed. -
What rifle scope do you use?
willhunt4coues replied to rhineheimer's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have a Valdada 6-24x56 with mp8 crosshairs also have Vortex PST 4-16x50 moa crosshairs. Both scopes are good but the Valdada is CRYSTAL clear with a dot for the center which make precision shots even easier. I have looked through nightforce and like them too they are just not a clear as the Valdada. Look at the Vortex HS models if you are wanting to save money plus have a precision longrange scope. Only downside to Valdada is the price is up there with nightforce being a little more than Valdada. Good luck on your quest. -
My Daughter Awesome Hunt!
willhunt4coues replied to Ernesto C's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
TOO COOL Ernesto. Awesome job of keeping your eyes open even after she shot to see your buck. Congrats to the both of you on a memory worth a thousand lifetimes!!! -
I have to thank my dad for always taking me out since I was very very young. Like others have said back then we would not scout just go looking around. No glassing from tripods, no dialing turrets (just hold over shots). Since I had started getting into Coues hunting hard core everything else followed Elk, Predator, Turkey have now all become an addiction. I can not go a week without going out to harvest or look for some critter and who is still with me on 95% of my trips my dad and now I have been taking my son out for 4 years now. My son is 7 now and really getting into hunting so I am wanting to teach him what I can in the time I can.

Get something you can practice with all day without having to spend thousands on. I have now 2 .308 and they are my go to rifle for Coues. I can shoot them all day long (practicing) and it is easier to find what you need for reloading/ammo. I shot my buck last year at 550 and I know for a fact I could take one at 800. I have had 30-06, 7mm, and will pick a .308 over any of them any day. My next build (next year) will be a 6.5x284 for Coues. Good luck on your quest!!!

Mine has a 56 objective so technically speaking it should be low rings on yours. I would wait till you got yours to make sure though. BUT you could always take them back. Nightforce or Valdada is what it have both of and they both work flawlessly. Valdada is the most affordable with I think the best tight fitting without having to lap.

I have for sale a 6.8 spc Remington 700 police rifle. It has about 100 rounds through the barrel and the barrel has a shallow flute. This is the gun only no scope no base. Has an HS precision stock. I have 1 box SST 120 grain and 3 boxes of 115 grain federal fusion to include. This rifle is a great tack driver and is good for varmints and or a good youth starter gun. Thanks, GUN IS NOT FOR SALE ANYMORE

Which Muzzle Brake
willhunt4coues replied to ready2hunt's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I would have to AGREE with huntjunkie the MUSCLE BREAK is from what I have heard the best on the market. PWS also makes one but I can not find any reviews. The Muscle Break I see that there a lot of marksman, military, and gunsmith that are using this because of the quality and craftsmanship. Here is the link to the Muscle Break http://www.piercisionrifles.com/apps/webstore/ -
Yes everyone should go on the back side of the pinals. BEST hunting in the whole unit..

I have one and LOV mine Cleans the cartridges like never before. Great machine!!!!

if you have a bolt action it never mattered. You could have had a 10 round or 30 round because it is bolt action only the semi autos is what mattered when it came to magazines but of course now we can go with as many rounds as you want.

WHAT RIFLE WILL YOU BE SHOOTING THIS SEASON?
willhunt4coues replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I will be using my Howa M1500 .308 Axiom stock, with Valdada 6-24x56 scope, Valdada Rings and EGW 20 MOA base. Shooting IMR 4895 42.8 grains with Berger 168 VLD at 2610 fps. Shot out to 600 yards this last weekend at a soda pop can and nailed it. I just added the G7 BR2 Rangefinder to my addition. Hoping to have a 800 to 900 yard shot this year on a monster that we spotted this last weekend. -
That is what I bought it for. My son was shooting this gun at 6 years old and my daughter at 4 years old. HAS NO RECOIL. I wanted to start him on this and move him up to a .308. I am wanting to sell this and get him a .308 with a muzzle break to reduce felt recoil.

I believe it is 24". I can measure this evening if you need me too. I get about 2650 fps when the box of 120sst states 2460 but thats out of a 16 inch barrel. I called Remington about the twist rate and they told me its a 1:9 twist. This gun does not like light bullets. 115 grain + is what she likes and I can get sub MOAs at 100 yards with 115 or 120. Being that it is a 270 cal bullet you can even get 130 or 140 grain but I would not go higher if you are reloading and you would probably have even better groups. I have shot this gun out to 600 yards and hit 8 out of 10 rounds. On game I don't know what you can do. If you had the right combo I would say 800 max but realistically speaking 600 is where I would stop.
