I have had the same thing happen to me too and I have had them just watch. I too have snuck in and then when I got close seen that someone else was there but at that point I just waved for him to go get him and watched. Like Sheldon said thats public hunting for ya..LOL. I also look at it this way if it is meant to be everything happens for a reason. maybe you were meant to harvest a 115 coues this year.

Has anyone shot the Bowtech Destroyer 350?
willhunt4coues replied to couesbowhunter1's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I had a frontale (sp) shot on my pig at 10 yards and you know how they have to turn thier head to see well I tucked the arrow in right at her collar and took out her jaw and heart in the shot. I shot my deer back in August with the same broadhead and he expired within 60 yards of where I shot him. That was a double lung shot. These broadheads I have not had any problems with. -

willhunt4coues replied to couesbowhunter1's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
No I have not heard of that I shoot the Slick Trick magnum 4 blade 100 grain. I paper tuned my bow then went to broadhead tune and didn't need to my braodheads hit the same spot as my field points. Now I did try the Carbon Express troika ST3 broadheads and they are 3 inches to the right at 20 and 24 inches to the right at 80 yards. So I will stick with the Slicks they are spot on with no adjustments needed. -
great job you guys. Nice cooler you have there.

I have not. I know one of the tags only hunted for 2 days then had to work.

willhunt4coues replied to couesbowhunter1's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I just got mine back in March or April and since then I have harvested my first spot and stalk coues and a few days ago my Stink pig. I love this bow but everyone should shoot what they feel comfortable with. This is my companion. -
I had alreay sent in my paper app about week and half ago so if we have messed up they will call but we know we didn't. I dont see a problem with either way I just like to get mine in as soon as I can.

Ya I have put off lots of great hunts (back pack hunts and other units) for my dad because I know he does not want to go on those hunts and I would rather be with him while I still can. I always see it that I have those days for when he can't go any more. So till then let the short walking and road hunting carry on...LOL. ALMOST every hunt I have been on my dad has been there with me. I have soo many memories that they could never die. Heck I have pictures of him and me when I was 5 in the hills. We will always have hunting and without my dad I would have never had hunting.

Same here on our late November Coues hunt (my wife and dads hunt) we saw 1 to 3 bucks daily granted they were not monster bucks but they were decent. Ever since then with the kids being sick every day it seems I have not been able to get out. Now for the pigs we never see any till the last week of december then they seem to pop up everywhere till fubruary. If I happen accross any big groups I will make sure I call you and point you to where they are after AZP&Y me and my dad get a litte piggy.

I know where some great bulls are at in the unit. I also have a picture of an 8x8 at the same spot but they do just wonder back in forth from the rez to our side. The hunt is in sept so it should be a great hunt. Just depends it can be great then you can also get skunked if you have alot of bonus points I would put in for a better unit but thats my opinion.

Thanks ALOT! You JACKWAGONS!

I have been guilty myself of doing this when I was younger. I have seen and jump out of the vehicle to shoot at a deer and was told as lonng as I am off the road and not shooting across it it was legal. But like I have said road hunting will be determind by the GF officer that pulls you over or gets you. But if nothing is wrong it will not stand up in court. Crazy huh? Just like a 2 trek "road" is it even a road since it is not a maintained for public travel? -

Seriously? LOL you really need to read the regs better to understand. I have studied the regs for the guide test and let me tell you there is alot for people to learn if you just read. Just like stated in the post after yours you will see that it is illegal and to what point well that is up to the warden that stops you. -

You know what I mean...LOL -
From what I take it as if you jump in your vehicle and drive on a road to get closer NO you are not breaking a law but if you drive OFF ROAD (no existing road or 2 trak) then yes you are.
-
Look on page 101 in the fall hunting regs this is what it states: TAKE/HUNT FROM A VEHICLE (ARS 17-301 B, R12-4-319) Pages 104 and 121 No person may take wildlife from a motor vehicle (including watercraft and aircraft, except as permitted by commission order, and under the provisions of the Challenged Hunter Access Mobility Permit Commision Rule (R12-4-217). "Take" as defined by law, includes persuing, Shooting, Hunting, and killing wildlife. You are unlawfully using a vihicle to take wildlife if you intentionally drive around untill you see the animal you wish to harvest and then make an attempt to "take". "Road hunting" is illegal: so is persuing wildlife with a vehicle, chasing or heading off moving wildlife with a vehicle, and driving off road to get closer to wildlife. You do not have to shoot from a vehicle to be in violation. Now from what this states is if I am going from a to b or just driving around ( face it do you really believe the warden is going to believe you were going from a to and I see an animal and jump out and shoot from the SIDE of the road then I am breaking the law. Now it says intentionally drive around untill you see the animal you wish to harvest and then make an attempt to "take". So does that mean I am driving from a to b and see a great buck and have my BOW and I make an attempt to take which I stalk the deer that means I am in violation. There is alot of loop holes to fill and face it we all can not be perfect. Heck I grew up driving around with my dad looking for game so does that make me an ILLEGAL ROAD HUNTER? Who knows only the game warden will make the call when it comes to it.

From what I was told that if you are driving from point a to b or just driving around and while you are driving you see a deer (like this situation) and jump out and start shooting it is considered road hunting. Now to if that Game warden would have sited them who knows. I know not all game wardens are mean. Our game warden in this unit is a stand up guy. But he still might have sited them. Sorry to hear they look at you through their scopes I would have found a rock or tree and hid behind it till they were gone. You should always be aware of your target and BEYOND. There is NOTHING wrong with driving around till you see an animal and then you park and go AFTER him. But I know it has been said somewhere that if you are just driving at a slow rate of speed looking for game it COULD be considered road hunting. That was said in the regs. But like I have said it is up to each warden what he sees as road hunting. -
Well my wife did it, I was finally able to talk her into hunting the grey ghost of the desert the Coues deer and had put her in with my dad and I and we all got tags. Needless to say I did tag out in August with a spot and stalk Coues buck so I had all the time in the world for my wife and dad. Rick and his wife came up for 2 days but then had to take off. We seen anywhere from 1 to 3 bucks every day of the hunt but man they were always on the move and could not get set up in time or would pull the grey ghost and disappear. On Saturday we had spotted a great buck and Misty was able to get a shot off but with a bad shot (had to shoot through a catclaw) the bullet hit under the deer with him walking away shaking his head. On Wednesday Misty spotted a buck just in front of our glassing spot headed up the hill so I grabbed the binos and confirmed it was a great buck and set her up on the Triclawps setup ASAP. With the buck only 270 yards away and the Howa 308 in her grasp I knew she would get him but he was just cresting the hill and I was about to say you better hurry when she shot and the deer did the infamous donkey kick (as I call it). He went about 40 yards into the tree line so I showed her where he was at and she let out another shot. He ran a whole 10 yards up the hill and slid back down on his chest. Both shots had connected. My wife had just shot her first Coues Whitetail deer we named Black Ear because low and behold when we approached the deer he had a Black bullet hole through his ear (the dried blood was black). This was the same buck she had shot at on Saturday that's why he was shaking his head that day. Congrats babe, I could not be more proud of you. I hope this is not the only Coues you get I hope for many more hunts with you. You stayed calm and got the job done. Thanks Rick and Tes for coming up and being able to go for the days you did I wish you guys could have stayed longer and I know you wished it too. Me and my dad had spotted a BRUISER on Tuesday, tried to get him but never did and never saw him again. Thanks Cade for the awesome Tripod and Triclawps set up well worth all the money in the world. Congrats again babe.
