    Depressing hunting story.

Have you thought about your practice elevation & temp compared to the Hunting elevation and temp? I know if I sight my gun in down in the valley in 110 degree weather then go on a hunt in dec with 60 degree temp and 3500 elevation it will be off.

    Ground blind

I have cameras out and blinds out too if they are stolen I know I did everything I could to keep them as safe as I could without having to park them at my house. Because face it you can't get pictures if your camera is in your bag at your house. I know if I leave them out in the hills with it all locked up then I have done my part. If someone steals it then I know I did everything Ii could do yes I will get upset but I have more and next time will have a back up watching the first. Sorry to hear it was stolen.

    Berger VLD exit wound!!!

Sundevil thats the same what I thought. Thats alot of meat wasted right there to me. A well placed shot behind the shoulder and a good bullet will do the job. I don't know about you but when I shoot an animal I want as little damage done to the meat as I can get. I shot a deer last year with the Winchester power max bonded and the bullet intered the deer but never left it which means all that energy in that bullet when it hit pushed the deer which in turn knocked him down. Thats what I want and when I cleaned the deer I found the bullet. My buddy shot a deer with my gun also within minutes of mine and both never had a exit and there was still blood everywhere. I my own opinion that bullet may be good on a bull but I think its too much on the deer. Don't get me wrong I think VLD are some of the BEST and ACCURATE ammo you can get just too much waste to me.

    Optics Help

Well with the cheaper line of binos your eyes will feel it TRUST me. Vortex are easy on the eyes. I have both swaro and vortex and of course the swaros are great but the vortex is good too. My eyes never tire and I dont get headaches anymore from staring through the swaros as they did with my nikon monarchs. If you are in the field all the time thoughout the year then the swaros or ziess or leicas, vortex are the way to go. Don't get the cheap Vortex though spend a little more heck you can still save big money with them just don't go with the lower line or you might as well get ready for the headache. I sold lots of photography equpt gaming equpt and other stuff just to get my swaros and I will NEVER sell them or trade them off because they are worth it. So go through ALL your stuff and see what you can do without. If you can do it then all the warrantied and everything are transferable so get them if you can.

    need bowtech allegiange limbs

Sportsmans is not an AUTHORISED dealer for Bowtech and WILL charge you for the limbs. Take the bow to Robert at broken arrow in AJ and he will help you out. My allegance did the same thing one year ago took it to him and cost me 35.00 for labor for him to put them both on. Trust Robert he is an Authorised bowtech dealer and certified to work on bowtech and anyone that is not will not be cover through bowtech and will charge full price thats why sportsmans says bowtechs warranty sucks is because they are not a cerified bowtech technition and not a dealer so if you even buy a bowtech from the it is not under warranty and some people just don't know that because you would think since they carry SOME of their bows they should be. Look at bowtechs website under dealers and no spotsmans warehouse is listed. Just wanted you to know.

    Fire in 24B

    Pinals are still open...

    Fire in 24B

The Frio fire in the Pinals is going crazy it is on the Medera peak and it is burning ALL over that mountain. I just wish the smoke would blow another direction because I am tired of it. I personally hope it comes down the mountain more and burns all that manzanita (sp) and scrub oak because well if anyone has ever seen it, it sure it a problem. We watched it a little as we came out of the pinals last night (we were about 1200 yards away) and it looked like it had a few good pines on fire. Then you could actually see where it was burning on the ground all the way around one of the ridges. Like I said I wish it would burn the bottom crap but the forest service seems to like to let it always burn in the pines which is fine but I believe this one is getting WAY too big and they need to do something now before it COMPLETELY takes over the mountain. The Iolie (sp) Ranch is extremely close to the fire I mean withing a few 100 yards. I know it will be good for the mountain and the critters when the new growth comes back but at least manage it don't let it go and thats what they are doing.

    2011 Spot and Stalk

Well all I have to say is its been a fun year spot and stalking because I was not seeing them from the blind or even using water so I thought, "hey I have not got one on a spot and stalk before why not try it". Now I have tried LOTS of times and always get busted at about 100 yards. Every evening after work I have been heading out NOT glassing up bucks but just STILL hunting. I would work my way up the mountain so I could be above any of the deer I would see and take a few steps and look, take a few steps and look. I have seen anywhere from 5 to 15 deer every evening and on the weekends doing this and getting VERY close to a fawn (3 feet), no lie it was so AWESOME to see the little guy that close. Well we did the same as every night and this time my dad was by my side. Now I wanted a big buck and have passed this buck I shot a few times now. There were a couple of great bucks in the herd but yesterday evening the nice ones were not present. I had been sneaking down the hill when I seen movement and noticed a doe and her fawn. Thinking it was the same 2 I had been seeing on the hill I did not think the others were there. As I sat and watched I seen 4 more does 1 spike walk out and then the monster 3x2 that I shot (lol). I waited in anticipation that I would see the others and waited and waited no big bucks. So why not just try and get as close as I could, I told myself. When I got to 70 yards I had a good shooting lane that the buck would walk through. I started to get even closer and saw a doe looking right at me so I stopped. Then it happened she started blowing and stomping and then to my right the same thing I thought well here they go they are out of here in a second. After what seemed to be 20 minutes (actually 5) they continued munching down on every blade of grass and what I call buck brush on the hill. Now I am in some of that buck brush and all that is sticking out in sight is my head, so I continue down the hill after my tasty backstraps. When I got to 50 yards from the doe I seen the buck step out so I drew only to have him go back behind the trees. Now I am thinking to myself if I do get him to present the shot do I take it? Is he big enough? Heck ya you can't eat the antlers and the best reason to shoot him YOU HAVE NEVER GOT A SPOT AND STALK ARCHERY COUES!!!!! That sealed the deal he did a 180 turn and walk fast through the opening and all I could think is he is not going to stop.....but he did right at the tree line. All I could see was his body so I ranged him at exactly 50.8 yards drew my Bowtech destroyer 350 back and put the 50 yard pin right behind his shoulder, once I was sure it was perfect I let the victory vforce tipped with a Slick Trick magnum 4 blade knocked with a tracer knock go and seen it dissapear into his side then stick in the dirt behind him. He jumped in a 180 turn and ran away. By this time I knew I just shot my first ever, after work, spot and stalk archery Coues Whitetail deer. I asked myself, "Did I just do that? Was it a good shot?" I walked on down to my arrow to find it completely passed through my tasty backstraps and I knew then from the blood on the ground he was not going to be far. When my dad finally made it down to me I showed him the blood and thanked him for being there with me for my first spot and stalk buck. We gave the buck sometime to expire by walking back up the mountain to grab the jeep. When we got back up to my tracer knock that I left as a marker we started on the blood trail with our lights on. Where the mountain goes around was 30 yards and when we got around the mountain I could see eyes in my light at 30 yards. So we watched the eyes for any movement and noticed they were on the ground and knew he did expire just after I had arrowed him. As we approched the deer that little guy was not big at all but the feeling of being able to have harvested a Coues Whitetail with my rifle at short range, at long range, my first 100" mark through a blind with a bow and now my FIRST SPOT AND STALK ARCHERY was a feeling of great accomplishment. Like I said he may not be big but I have done it all I have gone beyond where many do not go I had done it. That feeling will be my last feeling of accomplishing all the ways of hunting. I can now say I HAVE DONE IT ALL. Thank you all especially my dad for getting me into the sport and addiction of hunting, my wife Misty and kids for putting up with me being gone and supporting me, my mom for supporting me in the sport when I was growing up, to my friends Bruce, Ronnie, Doug, Rick (my taxidermist), and everyone else that has told me and pushed me for my success in the field over the years. I have learned alot and taught alot through trial and error and to those tasty backstraps God has given me.....THANK YOU without God and his creations we would not have these beautiful creatures. If you look closley at the left antler it does have 3 points...LOL

    I quit

Could have been like my past 4 full days afield with no sightings and then 2 days with a nice buck at 80 yards and missed then 4 3 hour days of spot and stalk to get a small I MEAN small 2x3 at 50 yards....I was about to give up too but that is where you can not let it get to you you HAVE to keep on trying...When it all comes together you will know it and it will FEEL perfect. Don't give up because of everything you already have into it. KEEP on going and those backstraps will be yours soon.

I love the story but I truley loved your willing to never stop. Thats the only way to get it done buddy and look at your trophy even if it was that 2x2 you would have been happy also but it ALWAYS happens for a reason and when it does you know it.
