Breaking a new one in?
willhunt4coues replied to 208muley's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have always shot 1 and clean for 5 then shot 5 and clean for 20. The last barrel i got (Shilen) I just shot it and cleaned every 20 for 100. This new barrel actually never leaves any copper even after 100 rounds of not cleaning it is actually the best grouping barrel i have bought. I have looked through lots of barrels with my bore scope factory and custom. Most customs do not need anything done. Factory I would say depends on the manufacturer. Tikka is one of the barrels that looks like a custom very smooth with no tool marks. If you do decide to clean shoot clean shoot make sure you are removing ALL the copper or you are just wasting your time. In reality like others have said read what the manufacturer suggests. -

I have a very sightly used Sightron SIII FFP 6-24x50 lrmoa scope for sale. It has Valdada 30mm low aluminum rings already mounted on scope leveled and lapped. I still have all paperwork and box with scope shade. Lens are in perfect condition. This scope has 90 moa of elevation and tracks perfectly. I have taken scope out to 1400 yards with no error. I am asking 750.00

I use a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 ffp lrmoa scope. The FFP scope will be around 800.00 to 950.00 depending on where you buy and the sfp 6-24x50 lrmoa scope will run you about 750.00 to 850.00. My ffp has 95 moa of elevation and my dads sfp scope has 109 moa. The ffp suppose to have 80 moa and sfp 100 moa so to get more is even better. They are very light weight 24 oz and very clear. Put it this way I have owned Valdada, nightforce, vortex, ect and the Sightron SIII has just what the others offer at a lower price, weight, and I personally have tested all side by side for proper tracking. The sightron won. So I sold everything I had and bought all sightron scopes.

best place to procure for custom build
willhunt4coues replied to Green Bullet's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Shilen actions have left hand in stock. Check out Bighorn actions also. These are probably the go to actions for most do it yourself guys at your home without having to have a lathe and mill. Plus doing it yourself will save you big time money and learn a ton of info. If you need some info shoot me over a PM. I have built 4 rifles now and each one was awesome and very easy to do. -
.308 reload help
willhunt4coues replied to ctracingraptor's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Hornady Comparator will attach to your calipers for measuring Ogive to base (cbto) instead of overall length (coal). Make sure you also get the correct insert for your caliber. Hornady also make the Overall length gauge to measure your throat length in your rifle. Here are the links to what you need. Lock N load overall length gauge: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/570611/hornady-lock-n-load-overall-length-gage-bolt-action You will also need the modified case for you cartridge: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/459683/hornady-lock-n-load-overall-length-gage-modified-case-308-winchester?cm_vc=sugv459683 Here is the comparator set: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/231904/hornady-lock-n-load-bullet-comparator-basic-set-with-6-inserts?cm_vc=ProductFinding Both of these 2 tools used together will give you a precise read of what your gun seating depth will be. Follow Berger's info on seating depth test and once you get close move in small increments to maintain the smallest group possible. http://www.bergerbullets.com/getting-the-best-precision-and-accuracy-from-vld-bullets-in-your-rifle/ -

Seating depth has everything to do with group size. Go to Berger web site and look up the seating depth test to find what your rifles seating depth should be. Also do not do a crimp. -
Have you tried a seating depth test? If your bullets are not seated at a precise depth of what the gun likes then no matter what you feed it, it will shoot like crap. Being that it is 15 years old it is probably shot out. A smith with a bore scope can tell you if it is or not. If you have not tried a seating depth test try it look at bergers web site for the instructions. I know my buddies gun was shooting 1/2 inch and I told him if you wanted a 1 hole group to try a seating depth test when he did it is now shooting 1 hole 5 shot groups. Seating depth is a main key to group size.

I have the 42 like what you bought. I know .380 are not all that much BUT the recoil on small guns like these are hard to control. Hence the reason I went with the 42. The 43 is a nice piece and I have been wanting to try one. Is it real snappy?

My dad got 2 over the weekend. I usually get them every year, I got one bit on my foot a few years ago and he was carrying staph and according to the dr he asked if I had been swimming in a old stagnant pond? Of course I explained the chigger bite and he then concluded that I got the staph from the chigger. BE VERY careful because my foot took awhile to get better. First time that ever happened. No chiggers this year knock on wood for me.

Happy Birthday Buddy. Enjoy your day buddy. Just remember our days are numbered...LOL.

VERY good rifle here. This gun would be a great buy for someone looking to get into long range. If I did not already have one I would buy in a heart beat. Good luck on the sale.
