    PANTS VERSUS CAT CLAW

5.11 Tactical pants work flawlessly. I too have 1 pair of Sitka pants I use for the Javelina/Desert catclaw hunts. My other 3 pair are timberlines and never get worn into nasty country only junipers and pines.

Please pray for TJ!! He was in a bad quad accident!

Prayers sent TJ. Get well soon. I use to have lots of quads but this is the reason I got rid of them. I know how bad an accident can be. I almost broke my hip doing 3 mph on one. Crap can go south fast.

    AZ Guide License Question

Read and memorize all of 17 laws and commission orders in the back of the 2014-2015 regulations. Find the common violations area and memorize it. Look at what you can and can't hunt with. Most questions are common since BUT some are TRICK questions. Make sure you read them very closely. What ever region you live in you need to call that office and make sure to confirm the test date. Test are only given on the FIRST monday (or tuesday can't remember) of EVERY month. The license will cost 300.00 and you pay when you pass. You have 3 chances to take the test. 50 question on the Hunting test, 50 questions on the fishing test and 100 questions on the Hunt/Fish test.

  10. Okay now if you have been up around Globe you probably already know that the biggest mountains we have is the pinal mountains. Now the pinals are only about 7000' at the peeks and Globe is about 3800'. Now here in town when you talk about elk being in the pinals some will say bs and some will say I have seen them. Well I finally got a picture of an old cow that always hangs out in the brush on the east side of the pinals. Now this cow is always by herself and is always pretty alert, I have seen her two years ago and now again this past weekend. This is a zoomed out picture And now the picture zoomed in On our way out looking for a buck for my dad we also ran into this nice buck. Zoomed out Zoomed in We had a great weekend out messing around. On saturday Andrew (cubsfan) came up to do a little of archery hunting also here is a pic of him and my dad we also got a great picture of the sunrise.

Shilen Barrels http://northlandshooterssupply.com/match-grade-barrels/shilen-savage-barrels/ Criterion Barrels http://northlandshooterssupply.com/match-grade-barrels/criterion-savage-barrels/ I prefer the shilen but any after market barrel is going to be better than the factory. I have always dealt with Jim at Northland Shooters Supply. Jim has a great inventory and ships everything well protected.

    Clays Bull Elk

LOVE it!!!!!!!! I even love it more that his name is Clay.....I dont get to meet too many people named Clay. Congrats you guys..Great bulls looks like he just keeps harvesting bigger and bigger bulls.
  13. With 2 tags left me and my dad were glassing for a 110" buck we have seen. While I was glassing I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye. As I looked up I seen the 110" buck at only 5 yards away. Got to love how you are glassing so hard that you don't even need binos. Well after he bolted my dad followed and I watched the hill to see if he would run up. After 2 hours of no sign of him I decide to pound the mountain by foot. On my way back I see antlers under a tree at about 150 yards and thought it was him but realized they were too close to the ground. A quick confirmation through the binos I see pink and white and knew it was a deadhead and a great one. This is more of an accomplishment than shooting one. Finding one this big does not happen especially to me.

    Big deadhead

I seen him at 5 yards as he busted out but no deer for me or my dad. My nephew and Doug tagged out and we have meat. I now can call myself a trophy hunter as I am passing on smaller ones looking for a mature buck. I still have archery season and maybe can tackle that 110 then. I will try and get a picture of him.
  15. Well my nephew Price has been practicing all year at long rang and thank god we practiced. We spotted this buck at over 1300 yards and got him to 504 yards. I only had 2 shots for him so I told him make the first one count. After 15 minutes of calming his nerves by looking at the buck through the scope he decided to shoot. 1 shot out of the custom 6.5 Creedmoor put the buck down like a ton of bricks.. I am so happy and thankful that this little man got it done calmly. Man he is going to be a great hunter.

10 year olds first buck 3x3

I left all the other ammo in my pack about 50 yards back. But I knew he only needed 1 shot or I would have not let him shoot that distance.

What is your Go-To round for Elk?

Bow and arrow.. I will never go Elk hunting again with a gun UNLESS its for an early hunt.

    Results are up

More than likely this happened in the 20% pass of the draw. You didn't have a low enough random number for your first choice so you got your 2nd choice. The draw then moved on to part two and all the tags in your first choice didn't go so draw moved on to part three same thing so now there are leftovers. This is why if I want a certain hunt I put it down for my first AND second choice. example 1st choice 5088 archery only javelina 24a 2nd choice 5088 archery only javelina 24a 3rd choice 5061 ham javelina 24a 4th choice 5062 ham javelina 24b I have done this for a few years now and seem to always get 1st or 2nd choice. Put it this way I got drawn for 24A turkey in 2012 and again for 2014 and only had 3 bps and there are only 2 tags for the first hunt.
  19. willhunt4coues

    Spring draw results are up!

24A TURKEY !!!!! WAHOOOO I had this tag in 2013 and my dad got a 10" bearded bird so hopefully I can do the same. I did not tag out then because neither of us had ever shot a bird so I wanted him to have the shot. Redemption time. 24A Archery stink pig also. Got to love them stink pigs.

    "My Turn", video and pics…Finally!

I love the emotions. Its always so exciting when you see YOUR bull that YOU just shot laying in front of you. Emotions are the only reason it really keeps you going. Congrats Jim on an awesome bull. Your dreams have came true.

Tips on buying a used rifle

Check wear on bolt lugs and raceway. Looking down the barrel you really need a bore scope to be able to see anything. Good luck hope you get her.
  22. willhunt4coues

    Keeping a barrel clean

I use a rubber end cap (don't know the term for it) for both my rifles. Just got to remember to take it off before shooting. Masking tape or painters tape works great also with no effect on shot placement.

    Vortex Optics: A Question

Both my babies have the new Sightron SIII 6-24X50 FFP LR MOA scopes. Both are suppose to have 80 moa of elevation but BOTH of mine have 95 moa. I also have a SFP SIII 6-24x50 LR MOA it is supposed to have 100 moa and it has 110 moa. Now as far as tracking I did a tall target test on all three of my SIII, my Valdada, and a friends Nightforce NXS. A tall target test will tell you after adjusting 30 moa if your scope is a true 1.047 moa or if it is off (will also help to determine if your scope is level with its level). After running the test the SIII were at .998765 of an MOA which means it has less than 1% error in tracking which according to Applied ballistics books you do not need to correct for anything less than 1%. The Valdada had .983255 of an MOA which means it has 2% error. This will need to be inputted into your ballistics program. Now you ready for this we did this test twice and confirmed both times that the Nightforce was at .968655 of an MOA which is 4% error. It is fine that the scope has this you just HAVE to input it into your program to correct your drop. In order to do the tall target test you have to have a 300' tape measure and get down to the EXACT 1/4 inch if not the test is flawed. Sightron does all work in house and has a custom shop in house (to customize your scope YOUR WAY). They have Exact track tracking system, GREAT warranty, and the best part the FFP scopes you can find for 850.00 to 950.00 almost everywhere online the SFP scopes you can find for 750.00 to 850.00. They also only weigh 21 oz and have MIL scopes.

    What powder for .308 win?

IMR 4895 is a great powder BUT it is at the bottom of the list for temperature sensitivity. It has over 150 fps spread from 0 to 100 degrees. I tested this powder in my .308 and in just 30 degrees difference in temperature I had over 60 fps difference. I tried the H4895 and it had no change in speed in the 30 degrees difference.

    What powder for .308 win?

Just an FYI paying local you can pay up to 35.00 a pound or 250.00 for 8lbs. Online IF only IF you buy 8lbs is where you save money. I just bought 8 1lbs for a total of 159.00, 28.00 hazmat, and 20.00 for shipping. That is still cheaper than buying it in store. Just an FYI. I have bought local but always pay more because they are hitting you with the same hazmat charge you just don't see it. Do what you would like. If you are just going to buy a 1 lb than ya it pointless to buy online. Just trying to help.
