    Shaun's 2011 javelina

Hello everyone! It been a while since I have made a post on here! Its about time! My husband, Shaun, and I got drawn for rifle javelina hunt. We wanted to hunt together and try new unit as well. My brother, elkhunter, with his wife and my dad met up at the unit. We all set up camp had a great time. Weather was great at frist then it started to get cold.We started glassing friday afternoon and didn't see anything. Saturday morning, we all split up to three different areas. Shaun and I hiked up on a ridge and glassed along the ridge on both sides. Nothing til couple of hours later I see a dark spot moving right below me about 200 yards. I thought, "What are the odds if that was javelina?" and I looked through the bino and BAM there they are! I ran to get my husband and we got our rifles ready. It was very windy that morning and we planned out our stalk (I had to remember that rifle hunting is much easier than archery!). We stalked and got within 100 yards from the herd. We got all set up. All of the pigs were bedding down it was a tough shot. We decided to wait til the pigs get up then we will have a better shot. Right then two pigs heard something (oops) and got up. I looked at Shaun and asked him, "Do you have a shot?" He said, "Yes" and next thing I knew he fired and the pig on the right went down. I fired a shot to a pig next (left) to the one that Shaun shot but the pig jumped and took off. I was bummed but I was THRILLED for my husband to get his first game! We did not have a camera with us but we used my phone ha. We headed back to camp and relaxed a bit with the family. Then we all headed out to look for more javelina for me. We didn't see anything. Sunday morning was freezing with the wind blowing. We all headed out to the area Tyler checked out earlier. We split up along the road and did some glassing until I got a message from Tyler that he found a herd.... a mile out! We met up with Tyler he showed us where the pigs were at. My husband and I hauled a**. When we got about 150 yards from the herd, I could only see one pig but no good shot. The herd went over the hill so my husband and I went around to the other side. We didn't see anything and Tyler didn't see anything either. We had two choice; sit here, freeze out butts off and wait or do something... So we decided to do something. Shaun got the j-13 call and walked up the hill where we thought the pigs might have bedded down. Shaun started the call...... nothing.... nothing.. until I see one pig going over the hill back to where we saw them earlier! They bedded down 10 yards where we saw them the last! They were gone! That was the end of our hunt. We did not come home emtpy hand though. I am proud of my husband. He did a great job out there! One shot the pig went down! He worked for it. Also wanted to thanks my family for coming and helping out. We had a great time!
  3. Happy New Year everyone! I had a great start on opening day. We all got up in the glassing spot and spotted the herd late in the morning and my dad, my brother (Tyler/elkhunter), and I started our stalk to the spot. Once we got closer to the spot we were unable to find the herd. We quietly looked and looked… nothing. We knew they were there somewhere we did not want to risk spooking them so we headed back to the glassing spot to find them again. Sure did once we got to the glassing spot 10 min later Tyler found the herd which was on the other side of the ridge, the break was over and stalk was on! Tyler and I headed out, dad stayed back to watch in case they moved. We got within 40 yards from the herd. I got behind an ocotillo and there was a pig 20 yards to my left and I saw an opportunity, next thing you know my pig was down. I shot my pig right in the skull.. I can’t wait to finish boiling the skull and see the marking from the broadhead. Here are the pictures. This was the first time for the ENTIRE family to be there (yes, including the dogs!!). I could not ask for a better day with everyone and I am looking forward to 2010!! Tyler and I Shaun (my fiance) and I The entire family!

    High country bucks

Awesome job on the deer Dad and Tyler! I am so proud of you guys. We all ended the year with great hunts!
  5. Hello all! It is about time I can post a story about the hunt! This year I tried something different, a new unit. I had the opportunity to scout some in the unit and pick out the area to glass for the hunt. My brother, elkhunter, and my dad joined me for the hunt and we saw overall 19 bucks and tons of does during the hunt. On Saturday evening we spotted 5 bucks together and we had the opportunity to get closer about 300 yards from the biggest buck in the group. The sun was setting and it was difficult for me to spot the deer 300 yards with 9x scope with limited of light. We decided to wait til the day; we will be out in the same spot before the sun rise and ready to glass them out. Sure did we found them again the next day we did all we can do to plan out how to get closer for better shot until all of the bucks got spooked and went over the mountain from all of that 15 shots from a mile away! *sigh* We glassed out other areas saw some spikes but held out for the bigger bucks that we saw earlier. Finally Monday morning we headed out the same area where we saw the bucks, Tyler spotted a different buck, 3x3 buck which was bedded down. We hiked to the spot to shoot from and I got all set up, safety is off ready to shoot.. Until the buck got up AND for the stupidest reason, I looked over at Tyler instead of shooting it at 260 yards!!! The buck ran off over the mountain. This moment will haunt me in my dreams. BUT… lesson learned. Then we all went up the mountain to go after the buck. We found a spike that we saw earlier on Saturday and debating whether if I should go and shoot the spike or wait until if we can find the other bucks again. We all watched this buck for 4 hours. If I pass up this opportunity, maybe there might not be another opportunity! I did not get a buck last year and did not want to go home empty hand again. Sure enough I decided to get the spike, so I got set up at 280 yards ready to shoot…. Missed! Missed again, again, and again until it was out of our sight…. Another dream that will haunt me…. Another lesson learned….*gulp* I missed because I did not put the butt of the rifle against my shoulder to stabilize the rifle, and all shots were to the right. We headed out to the other side of the mountain hoping we will see the bucks.. Bingo! Tyler spotted the same spike that I missed! Yep I wanted to get it so bad. I got within 282 yards from the spike and it went down on the spot (the butt of the rifle was on my shoulder!!). I was thrilled! This hunt was the most frusturating but taught me the most valuable lesson that I have experienced. I got a spike but getting that deer was some hard work and I am proud of it. I am very thankful for my brother and dad being patience with me and keeping up with the hard work. I would not go back and change one bit of the hunting experience. Thank you for reading my story! Here are some pictures, enjoy. Me watching the spike (see the spike? left side of the tree) Me, Tyler, and dad with my buck.

    Dad's 2009 pig

I came down from Phoenix to help out with my Dad's pig hunt. We started off saturday morning finding a herd and Dad put on a stalk got within 20 yards from the pigs. He was in the thick and did not get some good shots and the herd broke. We decided to move on and find another herd for the afternoon, no luck. Sunday morning we got to a new spot where Tyler (aka elkhunter) saw a herd the week before. We never seen them before and decided to try it out. Couple of hours later Dad found the herd, set the plan and stalked. He got 15 yards from a pig and got a perfect shot that he could ask for after all of the unsucessful stalks. The pig expired at the spot. Dad did a great job. It was a great experience and cannot ask for a better time with the boys.

    2009 Pig Hunt

I could not ask for a better start of the year with my family. My entire family got the opportunity to share the experience together. Me, my brother (Tyler aka elkhunter), Mom and Dad started out glassing the area and saw some deer but no pigs. Tyler and I decided to move to the next canyon and sure did found a herd. We got in position above the pigs and saw the herd going into the juniper tree and figured they were bedding down. We decided to stay and watch the tree and stalk on the herd when they come out for their afternoon feed. We did not see any activity for 3 hours at the tree or in the area nearby. We knew something was not right and decided to separate and sure did Tyler found the herd in the next canyon. We put on the stalk on the herd and got within 18 yards from the pig and got my shot opportunity. The pig went down on the spot. This is my second archery javelina.

    Need a pistol

You can check out Bersa Thuder .380.. its not small not big just right.. it holds good quality too.
  11. I am in a search for a shotgun and would like to get one before dove season in the fall. I currently have a 20 ga winchester pump action shotgun and I am not crazy about it. I am a big fan of side by side with double trigger. I have found several decent ones for sale but there is one sale that seems to be in a good shape with full and modified chokes. But I am not aware of the manufacture. It is a 12 ga side by side Eibar. Eibar shotgun are made in Spain. Does anyone have any experience with this manufacture? Positive or negative experience? Or do you have any feedback?? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    2008 Archery pig

Congrat on your pig! There's nothing better than hunting with you guys! It is a good way to start the year! Can't wait to come back down again for my hunt. Good luck on dad's hunt, keep me updated!
  15. This is my second coues deer hunt and it is a success! My first buck. I could not ask for a better time hunting with the boys. I couldn't get the opportunity to hunt until the 21st of December, it was nerve wrecking waiting to be done with work and haul out of the city. We got to hunt couple of days before and after Christmas. My brother (elkhunter), my dad and I glassed up some 90, 100 and 110 bucks pretty far out and got the opportunity to get closer but the bucks were rutting and running all around and over the mountain. Time was getting closer so we decided to go after this small 3x3 that I passed on the first day of hunting. We saw a spike, my brother encouraged me to shoot it while the sun was setting. I decided to glass more for that 3x3 buck and found it with two other spikes. My dad and I had 30 minutes left and we went after it. I got an opportunity to shoot but the buck went over the hill so we ran over to the other side and saw this buck standing 150 yards looking straight at us and I took a shot. Hit dead center and it dropped on the spot. It was a tough hunt and now we know of quite a few 100 inchers and we’ll get em next fall. Here are some pictures of the buck. The pics pas poor color quality, I had to use the scanner. Me and my buck Me, Elkhunter, and Dad
