    Scouting in the rain

My brother was out scouting 24 last weekend and got rained and hailed on. He ended up cutting his trip short because everything he had to wear got soaking wet and it looked like the rain was just going to keep on coming down. He has a muzzy coues tag, and I am planning on going along with him on a scouting trip next weekend.

Congratulations on the bear!! I sure like the color. I have got a black one and a dark brown one, and next I would like to get one that is the color of the one you got.

    Unit 10 archery bull

Congratulations on a very nice bull!! That would be really neat to get it all on film, but I don't think I would have the patience to keep on trying once the camera screwed me up a time or two.

    2006 BULL

Congratulations!! That was some really good footage that you got with that bull coming in until he was practically right on top of you. The adrenaline must have really been pumping with him coming right in like that.
  6. According to the B&C trophy watch posting it is a game farm bull from Canada. http://www.boone-crockett.org/news/trophyWatch.asp?area=news

    Speaking of Bear Season

coues7, I would say there is a chance that they will still be in the area if there is still food available. About 3 years ago my brother and I found bears in the pears in mid-September and we saw an average of 2 bears per day when we went in there on the weekends over the next 4 weeks. After that there weren't as many bears in the area, but there were still a few and I shot one on the last day of the NM season on Nov. 15th. This area had enough prickly pears that ripened at different times that it held a fairly good number of bears for over 2 months. If the area where you saw the bears is like this, then there is a good chance that you could run into a bear 5 weeks later. I wish you luck.

    Digiscoping Camera

I use that adapter on an ATS65 and use a Nikon Coolpix 990 that I bought used off of e-bay. This setup works really well for me. For alot of the cameras listed you have to buy another seperate adapter before you can use the swarovski DCA, because many of those cameras don't have filter threads which is what the DCA attaches to. A few sample pictures. Taken between 150 and 450 yards. This deer was over 1/2 a mile away, as you can see the quality drops a bit at the longer distances.

    last years goat

Very nice job!! That full quill ostrich leather looks good. It is a really nice prairie goat that your friend killed, and I hope you have good luck on your hunt this year.

    large pick up

Wow, that is an awesome skull you found!! Was it fresh when you first found it, or had it already been bleached out by the elements.

    Coosefan's Alaskan Hunt

It looks like you had a great hunt in spite of the difficulties you ran into. Congrats on the moose!!

    Elk Trail Camera pics

I would guess him to go about 300". He isn't too wide, but he has okay tine length which makes up for alot more than width does.

    I FOUND HIM

That is an awesome buck!! Nice Pictures. I hope that you can find him when the season starts. Thanks for posting the pictures.

    PUSHIN' 90"

That is an awesome antelope with really good prongs and length!! Very nice pictures. I think antelope are one of the harder animals to field judge, but I definitely think he is at least in the upper 80's scorewise. How about this antelope from NM that I digiscoped this morning from about 400-500 yards off the highway. He has really funky horns, but both sides are long and both have about equal prongs even though you never get a good look at the prong on the left horn. What do you think this guy would score?
  17. It looks like you had an awesome trip!! Those are some nice sheds and that is a really nice bear. If you can find the food sources this year the bears really seem to be concentrated. I saw 4 over the weekend in a set of canyons that had good acorns, and my brother spent another two days there and ended up seeing 12 in 4 days of hunting. We helped a friend get one of them, and my uncle nearly got a shot at a real nice one but he disappeared into the oaks. Congratulations.
  18. That sure is a neat picture!! I saw a muley with triplets this past weekend, which was the first time I had ever seen triplet fawns.

    Mountain Dreams...

My dad and grandpa both hunted them with muzzleloaders in the late 80's or early 90's, I can't quite remember when. Back in those days they wanted to cut down the numbers of ibex and they had to shoot two nannies or young ones and once they shot those they could shoot a trophy. My dad shot his two to qualify and then got a pretty nice billy that was about 38". He did all this with a Hawken with iron sights, not even a peep. My grandpa only got one young one and didn't get to go after a big one. The game department in their infinite wisdom kept shooting all of the nannies and young ones and the numbers eventually plummeted until there were hardly any left. With the healthy mt. lion population the numbers stayed pretty low for quite awhile, but in the last few years the ibex seem like they have bounced back. I had a friend with a muzzleloader tag who got one about 3 or 4 years ago that was close to 40 inches. I was too young to hunt them back in the good days when there were quite a few tags and it was actually possible to draw a tag. I have put in for years and never drawn a tag. This hunt is definitely one of the hunts in North America that I would like to do. One of the great things about NM is that we have some really neat exotics like aoudad, ibex, and oryx that are totally free-ranging and are huntable on public land.
  20. Very nice pictures!! My favorite is the bighorn picture. It looks like you had a great 4 days in the outdoors.
  21. Nice pictures!! I also thought that that rock was a lot smaller in the first picture and then with you in front of it I realized how big it really was.

    Another one down!

Climbing Kilimanjaro was a great experience!! It was really neat going from rainforest up to glaciers and back in the course of 6 days. I climbed it in 1999 with my dad and brother. We used a tour company called Wild Frontiers that is based in South Africa because it was quite a lot cheaper than any of the US tour companies that we could find. I will have to dig out some of the pictures from our trip and get them posted. I am still interested in the boots, I will send you a PM.

    Big bull pictures

Very Nice, thanks for posting the pictures. I like to get out this time of year to take pictures of the bulls in velvet, but with my schedule in med school this year it just hasn't been possible.

    Another one down!

Nice pictures, it looks like you had a good trip!! You are one up on me for state high points. I have done Guadalupe Peak several times and Wheeler peak a bunch of times, but not Humphrey's. I have also done a few fourteeners in CO and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,340), which is the highest peak in Africa. Are those the Meindel Alaska Hunters that you have? I have walked the soles off quite a few pairs of Meindls and find that they fit my feet well, and I find that Vasques don't agree with me. It might just be that your feet aren't the right shape to do well in Meindls. I would be happy to take them off your hands if they are between size 9.5 to 11.5 as either my brother or myself could use them depending on what size they are.
