Nice pics of a good variety of critters at that spot. That Karp might be worth pursuing with a bow.

I'm happy with my left-handed T3 in .270 Win. Very accurate rifle.

+1 for the Perfekt Hunters. I bought my first pair last year and packed out my buck wearing them. No problems. They're both durable and comfortable. -
+1 for the Perfekt Hunter. They're a bit pricey, but they're worth the money.

I would recommend you start by buying the book How to Hunt Coues Deer from the store on this site. You probably couldn't spend a better $24 to begin your coues deer education.

Looks like 1,674 beans to me! -
I used a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 for the first time this year. Took my coues in October with one shot at just under 300 yards. I'm looking forward to packing the Tikka around for years to come. Good luck with your hunt!

Nice job on getting your first archery buck. Mike knows how to find the deer.

I shoot lefty also. I picked mine up last year about this time at the Sportsman's Warehouse off of I-17 in Phoenix.

Nice buck. It's good to see there are still some nice bucks in 23.

I like the new skin. It feels festive. Happy holidays!

+1 on the Tikka T3 Lite. As the name suggests, it's light for packing around all day. It's very accurate out of the box, with factory ammo. After missing several bucks last year, I figured the problem HAD to be my old lever-action .308 Winchester (it couldn't have been my lack of time spent at the range). I bought a Tikka in .270 last year and topped it with a Nikon BDC scope. The set-up worked like a charm in October. Good luck with your decision.

Nice buck and nice write up. I'll have to give Mutt a hard time next time I see him. Sometimes those Show Low boys have a hard time hitting the coues deer after hunting so many big mulies. I missed five coues bucks myself last year. I spent some much needed time at the range in the off season and made a one shot kill in October. Tell Mutt to hang in there . . . there's always next year.

"We roughed him out at 340 and he has character too." Thanks for sharing your story Headache. That's definitely a unique bull.

Congratulations! That's a great looking bull!

Thanks for sharing the pics. That non-typical must have some moose genes in him!

Sportsmans Warehouse in Goodyear to Close
liv4coues replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I'm sorry to hear this news, although I'm not surprised to hear it. I frequently shop at the Goodyear SW, but I have often wondered how they stay in business. Since the Cabela's opening, store traffic has been sparse every time I've shopped there. I'll definitely miss the store. -
I realize that bats are beneficial, but they sure are ugly little critters!

Showing off my trophy room
liv4coues replied to bobbyo's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
A trophy room anyone would be proud of! I like the little forky - that's about the twice the size of my first coues! -
Sweet rack! They don't come much more symmetrical than that.

Very Nice!! I'd love to see a lion on the hood of that truck in a future post!

Where Are You Going to be Opening Morning?
liv4coues replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
If I'm fortunate enough to draw another tag this year, I'll be atop a ridge in Southern Arizona, with my dad, brother, and one Jimmer Negamenee, waiting for the sunlight to hit the eastern slopes. The application is going in the mail tomorrow! -
I bought a new rifle in the off season. After some deplorable shooting last year, I figure I should add a bipod to the rifle set up this year (although what I really need is some serious time on the range). I'm leaning toward buying a sitting Snipe Pod. Any input would be appreciated.
-
Thanks for the quick replies. I was afraid the Harris might add too much weight to the gun, but the additional weight would be better than having a less effective bipod.

I can't stand rattlers either. My wife and I were at Roosevelt Lake a couple weeks ago and I jumped over one about the size of the snake in Ron G.'s post. The thing never rattled. Unfortunately, it's still slithering around - the wife didn't think we should bother it since it wasn't bothering us. The fact that their crawling around on the desert floor is enough of a bother for me to justify killing the things, but that wasn't a battle I was willing to engage in . . . especially considering she was good enough to go the lake with me in the first place! During our October 36B hunt last year, my brother and I came across one in waist high grass. It rattled when my brother was about 4 feet from walking right over it. It didn't rattle again after that . . .
