Well my daughters and my elk cow hunt was unsuccessful on filling tags so I was on a mission to put meat in the freezer. Wasn’t real happy with the full moon conditions we were experiencing but knew an area that held decent deer. Opening morning I had hopes of finding the bruiser that has been eluding me for the past 3 yrs, but at 6:15 two bucks decide to show up on an opposite hill. For the next 20 minutes I’m frantically glassing a canyon where the bruiser likes to hangout…..nothing. I then start thinking how I want some meat in the freezer again. I range the (2) bucks at 410yds, but still keep looking at the canyon….nothing. I get set up and hem and haw for the next 5 minutes and decide to send lead. I knew the next few days were going get super windy and finding deer under the moon and wind conditions was going to get tougher each day along with normal pressure. So I decided it’s go time!!!! 1st shot was a tad low, adjusted scope and 2nd shot was spot on. Not my biggest or smallest, but meat in the freezer. Just a measly 2 mile hike out but worth every bit of it. This deer had an absolutely beautiful coat on it. We filled 2 out of 3 tags with the hunting party I was with.

Abundance of quail
Shooter McGavin replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Took my son and 4 other guys out quail hunting, nice cool weather made it real nice. I knocked down 8, my son got 5 and the other guys only got 2 between the 4 of them. I think the storm the day before had an effect on them, but we still got on them. Good times!!!!!! -

Abundance of quail

Mine too, but half had a ton of chewed up prickly “super lime green” pear cactus in their gullet as well as the round orange-reddish berry looking fruit. -

Unfortunately don’t know when I’ll be in Phx, my sons club soccer has stopped due to HS soccer. Just received about 7-8 extra chains for these units. Just want to clarify, cost is $120 total for both, not $120 each

Looks like an old well casing, where a windmill used to be or jack pump.

Does this give the option to read in meters?

I was up in 5A this weekend scouting for my boys jr elk hunt. Never been to this unit but has some intel from some coworkers. Drove/hiked around the 300 and FS147/141 E,F,H. Tons of off-roaders (sxs, bikes) and just people camping and not to mention an archery bull hunt going on. Heard one solo bugle, don’t know if it was man made or not off of the 300 but very quiet all around. Hopefully the rut is still lingering by the time his hunt starts on 10/13. I did drive up to East Sunset Mountain and glassed up a very nice 6x and a raghorn. Just wondering if I should go further north of Knoll lake, won’t have time prior to the hunt to make it back up there.

It’s a jr cow hunt not a bull, sure wish it was though.

There are deer in every canyon and hillside out there. 4x is not needed. Park, hike and glass. If unsuccessful, go up backside (control road) and do the same. No reason why you/he/she can’t fill your tag.
