When I was 14, my dad, my best friend Tony and his dad which he and my dad got along great went archery deer and javelina hunting in January in 36B down off of Ruby Rd near Nogales. We get to our destination to set up camp and realize we lost a sleeping bag on the drive out. We set up our tents and decided to drive to Nogales and pick one up. After we purchase one, the weather starts to turn, rain and wind and the dads decide it’s no use to go back to camp and want to cross the border into Nogales, Mex. They both decide to give me and Tony an educational experience. We drive a little way in and park. Well we wind up on Canal Street, which yes did have water running down the middle of it and walk into some seedy building the right. Unbeknownst to us 14yr olds, it was a whorehouse. We all pack into a booth, a server walks up, our dads allow to buy a Mexican beer (wasn’t my first, just my first with my dad) Then 2 very old (at least to me) and very ugly women came up to us asking if we wanted any thing…. My buddy and I were in total shock while our dads were laughing their butts off looking at us. Both dads kindly declined, we finished our beers and left. We ended going back to camp, no one tagged out that weekend but this memory will outlive any tag filled!!!

These limited hunts really should be called limit out hunts😂😆😁 My youngest and I hunted opening day, lots of sign, no elk and didn’t hear any shots anywhere…. Thought uh oh, a week later after my daughters hunt things have changed up a bit. Going to have to step up my guiding skills for my boys and me. Well my oldest showed up late Friday evening and we discussed Saturday’s game plan. We woke up a bit late and high tailed it out to where my daughter shot hers. Glassed and walked our butts off…..nothing!!! Got back to the truck and told them we are going to climb a bitty mountain and glass. As we near the top both boys here a bugle around 10:30, I looked at them and said are you sure? My youngest booked it up to the top and instantly looked down at us and raised 3 fingers. He said elk!! As we get up there, 1 massive 6x and at least 10 cows walking between the junipers. I range them, 165 yds. My oldest sends lead, he misses and racks another. Bam…elk down!! My youngest, sends lead and misses, the elk move closer to about 100yds. My oldest hands me the gun he using so I could shoot. My youngest shoots again, misses again. He racks another and drops his. A cow freezes just behind where my youngest shot his, I squeeze off a round and it drops. The rest of the herd runs off. We are all excited and high 5’s, but deep down I’m crying knowing 1 elk is great, 2 elk is going to suck, 3 elk will absolute frigging kill me. We got all 3 elk gutted and I grab both guns and head toward the truck to drive around to a closer spot. My two kids drag one elk down…. It kicked their butts. I met them with water, but we needed Gatorade. I drove back to camp to grab some as well a chainsaw. We walked up to the other one, cut it in half. Dragged the 2 pieces back. Then walked up to the 3rd one, did the same. 662yds from the truck and basically up hill, (3) times. This dad is so proud but so pooped!!! With my daughters elk last week and the (3) today, I think we are set for a bit. I do have my WT hunt next week in 33, I’m going to be very picky as to what I shoot. pics coming shortly

We have and contemplated, but the 1/2 mile up hill and then back down multiple times for 2 separate elk didn’t seem appealing.

My daughter was lucky enough to draw a 5B North Limited Twin Arrows cow elk and was able to fill her tag opening day at 10 AM. It rained quite a bit Thursday and then start sprinkling Friday morning, then let up and we were able to locate a small herd and she was able to fill her tag, but then sky opened up and it was just an absolute nightmare, rain storm…..mud up to your ankles, water drenched multiple trips to and from the kill site to the vehicle stuck vehicles, just an absolute mess, but a complete success. Me and my two boys have the same hunt starting this weekend. Looking forward to fill three more tags.

I got 12, my son got 7. At first light dove were everywhere, from 6:30-8 only singles and very few and far between. Will try an evening hunt this week to see it’s any better.

Saturday bump

Out in Redington on a WT hunt, ended up locating a buck and sent lead across a canyon, thought I hit it…. While looking for the deer (ended up missing it) This guy sticks his head up in the tall grass. I ended up catching it and bringing back to camp for show and tell. I’m 6’2”, he’s folded in the middle. He was a doozy!!!!

Actually just looked it up, Brown Vine Snake.

Many many years ago in 36B, I caught this guy. Wasn’t a racer, but it liked to climb trees.

I am pretty sure they are standard size since there is only (1) E in the tongue # Valdress E Plus GTX
