What weird stuff have you glassed or happen well glassing for game?
Shooter McGavin replied to seek100plus's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
While WT hunting in 36B (California Gulch area) I was glassing this deep canyon when I see a Mt Lion emerge from a bush, then a 2nd lion follows. Being that this was my 1st lion(s) sighting I was mesmerized. I couldn't take my eyes off them, then in my field of view of my Binos about 10 o'clock I see more movement and its 5 yotes in a train. The lead lion starts to head up hill while the 2nd one follows the ravine. The yotes see the 1st lion and circle it, after that it was the wildest National Geographic dog and cat fight ever. The dogs would dive in and nip at the lion and then haul butt when the lion would swat and chase em. The noises that the lion was making was so erie and loud coming through this canyon. This happened for about 20 minutes. I completely stopped looking for deer and just watched. As for the 2nd lion, I lost sight of it and actually started to get scared because I had no idea where it was at. The yotes lost the battle and took off up the hill. Never thought about sending lead down range, but the more I think about it I probably should have filled my lion tag that year. In 2010, I did end up killing my 1st lion at 10 yds. I was able to sneak up to it without it knowing I was there. Too close for comfort in my books, but at the time I had know idea what I was sneaking up too. I just saw something move and I was curious as to what it was. -

They are easily found all around in the higher elevations of Mt Lemmon (unit 33). Whenever the kids and I go exploring we always seem to find 1-2.

Was able to fill my tag opening morning. Woke up to unusually high winds, was not real happy, but it allowed me to close the distance from 450 yds to 288 yds. Also helped a friend fill his tag on Saturday. Filled 2 of 3 tags, tons of people/hunters. Had a nice layer of dust on everything due to Border Patrol was out in full force and the razors, side x’s and everyday idiots haulin a$$.

I also used the hog saddle that I just purchased from you, it worked very well. Rifle was very secure and with the tripod. Thanks again. The kids will surely like it.

I actually did, sliced right through the backside of his neck (cut spinal cord in half). Wasn’t happy with my shooting skills, but it worked.

My 14 yr old daughter and 12 yr old son got Jr cow elk tags for 6A/5BS. My sons friend also got drawn, so we had 3 tags. Due to a busy swim and soccer schedule I could only pull off one scouting trip. Needless to say, I was gonna put the boots to the ground and hopefully fill a tag or two. Friday morning was beautiful, heard some late rut bugles and then started hearing shots off in the distance through the forest. I knew we were in the right spot. Nothing turned up so we went to get a hot lunch put on by the AES at the St Joseph’s jr elk camp. Met some great folks even went out with a mentor who, bless his heart tried to put us on some elk but couldn’t locate any due to all the pressure. I did find a beautiful arrowhead, that made my day, elk or no elk. Saturday morning came early and we had pulled over to look at a map when my son said, “dad, are those elk crossing the road?” I look up and catch 2 run by. We park and head toward the direction they are going. I take my 2 kids and my buddy and his son split up because we have 2 different bulls bugling. I head east, he heads west. I get to a small clearing and decide we should sit under a couple of trees and see what happens. My daughter says “ I’m hungry, can I eat my PB&J?” After she eats it, she says I see an elk and it’s walking towards us, I put my binos up to verify and say get the monopod and gun. I range it at 100yds and it stops behind a tree, I asked her to wait for it to turn broadside, of course she says “ I know dad”. It continues to zig and zig between the trees getting closer. I range it again at 84 yds, I get excited and say shoot whenever you’re ready, once again she says, “stop it dad, I know”. As soon as I put the binos up, the crack of the 270wsm goes off. I look frantically to see where it went, I get scared because I can’t find it. I see something move to the left behind a tree, clearly it’s been hit and wobbly. I point it out to her for one last finishing shot. Gun goes off again and it drops. The 3 H’s happened immediately after ( Hootin, Howlering and High-5’s). On the radio to our buddies to get the truck, started the gutless method and had it in the truck within a couple of hours. Got it to the butcher and she was able to pick her meat choices. My son and his friend did not fill their tag but had a fantastic time at the elk camp, shooting BB guns and being outside despite the rain, wind and muddy conditions.

Almost got our limit yesterday, morning was sort of kind of cool, the breeze kept the bugs away and not one snake, great day!!!! -
Looking to sell a used Springfield Armory xds45, absolutely love the size of this gun for conceal ability purposes. Comes with original box, (3) mags and other goodies that come with the box. I have put 3 boxes through it, I did purchase it used so I have know idea what the actual round count is, shape is well above good. Only reason I'm selling it, is that the wife likes my xds9 better. Located in Tucson, very good possibility I'll be in Phx tomorrow if someone is interested. Will post pics when time allows. $380.00
