    Daughter got it done

Took my daughter out of school to fill her tag today, she said they were only going to watch movies anyways. Went to Redington since it was close. Started glassing and the hills were littered with doe, every canyon and ridge had movement. Made it really fun looking to see which one of these had antlers. As we started to descend a small hill I look up and see a deer in a bowl, I tell my daughter get my newly won AES 15x56 binos out to see what we can see. I say, it's got horn. She immediately says, can I shoot it. Of course I say. We get set up and and I range it at 342 yds, see gets set up, extends the bi-pod legs and says, "how far is it". I responded 330, squeeze the trigger whenever your ready. Seconds later, boom and I see deer drop and tall grass twitching. Did I get it, she says. You sure did, the smile I got from her was from ear to ear. Walk down, tag it and drag it. By the way, she was all in camo, the blue shirt was just an undershirt. Unfortunately my youngest was not able to fill his tag yesterday, but he is oh so ready for 2017. Great year, awesome new memories and meat in the freezer. Headed to Rocky Point tomorrow for Thanksgiving. Turkey and rum & cokes on the beach. Life is good. Happy Thanksgiving to all CWT.

4 yrs in a row for my 13yr old

Since all 3 kids got drawn for late any antlered deer, I decided to take each out individually. My youngest went out Friday and yesterday, great one on one time with him, unfortunately all we saw were does. He's hooked and is looking forward to Wednesday for one last outing. I took my oldest, 13 yrs old out this morning and he connected at 317 yds on this great little buck. His biggest so far. I keep telling him, I've never had to eat an antler so size doesn't matter. It's all about the experience and being outdoors enjoying Mother Nature and what she has to offer. My daughter will be heading out tomorrow and Tuesday. Hopefully more pics as the week unfolds.

    Lion tag?

I've glassed a pair up in 36B in the mid 90's, one decided to hang low the other went high and took on 5 coyotes. That was awesome to see, the shear noise was incredible echoing through the canyon. I was able to harvest one in 36A about 10 yds, snuck up on it. Didn't actually know what I was sneaking up on until I got that close. I'll never forget the phone call to my wife and told her that she will become a lesbian because your going to eat some kitty!!!!

    Successful 5B north limited hunt

Back in Feb I purposely put in for the limited 5B north hunt, hoping with only 30 tags I might get lucky. Knowing of a pocket herd in this unit I knew if I got drawn it was game on. Well I got tag#13. Last month I received a phone call from AES on was the lucky raffle prize of the Swarovski 15x56 binos, things were only getting better for this up coming elk hunt. I get to camp Thursday the 12th, hurry up and set up and get out to do some evening glassing. Let's just say, all you guys who have stated that the Swaros are top notch, well they are about 10 steps past that. Wow!!!! Well I didn't see any elk that evening but I knew the next day was gong to be good. Woke up early, got to the top of my hill where I shot my last years elk and started glassing. Found 15 cow elk scattered around in this bowl and 3 different bulls milling around. Put a stalk on a couple cows and by the time I thought I got to where they were they had vanished through all the junipers. Located a few more cows but were way up high and couldn't feasibly get there without losing them. As I turn and head back to a different area, a cow pops out from behind a juniper about 40 yds, as she turns towards me I squeezed off a round. The cow kind of jumps and wobbles a bit and runs off. I stand there wondering how could I have missed. I slowly walk up to where she was standing looking for signs of blood.....nothing. I can't believe I missed, I walk in the direction she ran and notice some movement between two JP's, it's her and she is wobbling back and forth. I put another round in her and she drops. I did notice some tiny droplets of blood this time. I walk up and give myself high fives and call my buddy to go get the truck. Tag it, gut it and only got it about 80 yds before I went to go flag my buddy down. Got the truck within 20 yds and got it off to Casey's in Flagstaff. Back to back years limited cow elk tags in this unit. In about 10 days from now I should be heading back up the to get my goodness.
