  1. This morning was a repeat of yesterday only a tad bit warmer. The boy clobbered them again. I swear there were times where there were 2000+ birds flying from these two fields. It was absolutely priceless watching him spin like a merry-go-round trying to focus on 1 bird. Killed one rattlesnake, what was weird he was tailless, somebody or something gnawed off his tail which scared me a little too much. He reared his head about 4' away and was hissing, but not rattling. Needless to say his frontside was a mirrored image of his backside after a 20g took his head off. Gonna do 3 peat tomorrow to end the wonderful weekend.

  3. Couldn't find the time to make it out during the work week but headed out this morning with the boy and a good friend. All I can say is, Holy Bejesus their were thousands of birds. Got my limit in under an hour which gave me ample time to watch my boy get his 1st limit of 15. He depleted my 20g stock of shells but it was sure worth it watching him aim, then bang-bang (that's his Antonio Zoli O/U) and then to see the bird buckle and smash to the ground. Couldn't be happier, headed to Walmart to stock up again for second round Sunday. We all limited out.

    Toyota Tundra lift options

I currently own a 2014 Toyota Tundra crew max. I have been blessed to get the go ahead on installing some sort of lift. I am not looking to break the bank but I want a nice clean look and bigger tires. I would like some feedback from all CWT members who have a leveling kit or suspension (4" being the max height). I have inquired with Desert Rat regarding the Boss suspension which I guess Toyota uses to level their trucks. I guess it's as smooth as a stock ride, but it only raises it 3" and costs $1200+ labor, the leveling kit is a 4" but a rougher ride and quite a bit cheaper. Any thoughts or pics of your rides would be helpful. Thanks in advance

    Toyota Tundra lift options

Did you put the lift on or did it come with the truck? How many miles on it before the steering box? Was it normal driving /hunting conditions, for example see a road and wonder where it went or do did you really 4x with it?

    Toyota Tundra lift options

The 3" lift is $1200, plus $400 in labor. So around $1800. It has some new style beefy coil front springs along with other goodies. The 4" leveling kit has just spacers (front and back) $480ish Both costs include alignment

Grandpa in 1928 , couple of NY deer from the 80's

Definitely cool old photos, but is it just me or do the deer back east just look bad (jacked up). I don't think they compare to the beauty of our Coues and even Muley's in Az. Maybe it's the dry heat that gives our deer a great looking look. Just saying.............

    Toyota Tundra

Is it not a 4x4? I think you could definitely do better. Great looking truck though........

    He did it!!! Passed HE

Congrats to you and your boy............It truly is an awesome feeling, but it doesn't even come close to the reaction/feeling when you both are eyeballing (little guy using the scope and you using your binos) staring down the buck he is about to put a tag on. It only gets better. The memories have just begun................

    Trophy Rooms

They are awesome indeed. The amount of money spent on the time, taxidermist bill, the actual house to be able to have the room for all those mounts is mind blowing, I personally think it's a little excessive for my tastes. My trophy room consists of the following: my 1st javelina kill (archery) which is mounted in my garage above the door leading into the house. A decent 3x WT Euro mount in my office at work My 2010 Mt Lion skull in my office at work Another Javi skull in my office And a ton of sawed off antlers from previous kills of WT and Mulie killed during my many years of hunting in a garage cabinet. I'm a simple man..........

Jr deer hunt, I think daddy is getting more & more excited

Winner winner chicken dinner, you are correct on range location. Yeah when she was shooting the 22, some guy next to us was slinging lead down range from his pistols. I don't mind, but I was more worried about the spent casings flying our way and landing and scorching her. I like that range most of time, close and convenient but would rather get out some place out in the sticks to do this kind of thing. It just sucks you have to go so far to do so.
  18. Just received two jr deer hunt tags in the mail, thought why not take the 10 yr old daughter to get acclimated to the Kimberl 270 wsm since the boy has already done so 2 yrs in a row. Spent 30 minutes warming up the the CZ 452 22lr. Breathing, squeezing the trigger and basic fundamentals. It got real warm really quick so we moved to the longer down range targets and got her set up. She squeezed off only 3 rds, not because of the kick but due to the other land cannons being shot on either side of her. All 3 rds within a 6" circle, not bad for 1st time out. She said the kick wasn't bad it was the boom that got to her. I told her when you see deer, the adrenaline kicks in and the only thing you hear is your heartbeat. Everything else somehow goes away. We will definitely dial it in as it gets cooler but very proud of her for shooting her 1st high caliber rifle. Next week I plan on taking her to the special deer place to see if I can teach her the patience of glassing and checking the game camera. Only got pics of the 22 target, hers were on the left mine the right.

    Getting bigger

Went up this morning in unit 33 where I have my camera set to swap out batteries and SD card. Both my kids got drawn for the early hunt Oct 9-15, I also got the Oct 23-29 WT same unit. Beautiful kind of cool morning to start off but warmed up real quick. Saw a couple of bucks and numerous does just hiking to my spot. Swapped out card and raced home to view. Overall very pleased with the activity and 6 different bucks in all various antler stages. These ones caught my eye.

    Alaskan Black Bear

Went to Alaska in the summer of 1990, stayed 4 months in the brush just outside Kenai. Went through 2 tents while visiting, trying to work in the fish canaries and tons of site seeing. Saw tons of bear just on the drive up, especially through BC, Canada. Would wake up in the morning peak our heads out of the tent and would have moose and caribou walking through camp. Alaska is BIG and beautiful, one day would love to go back for a hunt and fish trip. Nice looking bear though, love the snow covered mountains in the back.

    Better off dead

I killed 75% off these just south of I-10 (Rita rd/Rocket Strav). I would lop off the head, put the body in the fridge until I finished working and when I got home the kids and I would skin the snake and dissect them. We were always hoping to see if they had any critters still in their bellies. Never did find any. The other 25% of the snakes were various scouting and hunting trips. I remember bringing one home and had some basketball practice to go To and by the time we remembered it was really late in the evening. The next day, almost 30 hrs from the time of kill and being stuck in the fridge we started our science experiment. Not more than 5 seconds into slicing the belly open with an exacto knife the headless snake squirmed and struck my hand. Talk about filling your britches and having the kids hear some colorful expletives. I'm sure I'll hear a handful from tree-huggin snake charming folk, but if I'm out in the field alone or with my kids these snakes will meet their maker. No reason to get bit and ruin your day. Plus they make cool Show-N-Tell for school.

    Better off dead

Tried my luck on tanning some, some turned out nice, others not so good. Never tried eating em. I am very picky about anything with that many tiny bones. Kinda takes the enjoyment out of eating if you ask me.
