Opening morning 10/17 @ 7:25 AM, unit 27 cow tag filled. Only 3 out of a group of 10 tag holders in our camp were lucky enough to fill tags. It was a great weekend, the bulls were still bugling and it was exciting getting on them to see herds any where from 7 on up to 40 cows with them. The other two guys who filled their tags were first time elk hunters, furthermore it was their first kill ever. The nights were very chilly waking up to frozen water and ice on everything. Dropped off all 3 to Miller's in Springerville, can't wait. Fantastic hunt, now just waiting for my Muley hunt in November.

270 WSM, no doubt the best all around, especially the Kimber Classic, very light and oooooooooohhhhhhhh so nice to shoot. -
I remember when I was 14 it was me, my dad, my younger brother and my good friend and his dad went archery hunting in 36B. We got to our camp and noticed my brothers sleeping bag and mine had blown out of the truck. Dad said, let's go to Nogales and pick some up at Kmart or Yellow Front. We get down there and the wind is just howling, he says not the best time to set up camp, we might as well cross the border for lunch and what not. Well being 14 and not knowing what "what not was" we all agreed. Well we ended up on Canal Street, 1st time I had a beer and the 1st time I was approached by a hooker. Needless to say, both dads laughing hysterical and learned the phrase "no gracias" Been going down south to the 36's for years, (pig, deer, quail) tons of illegal sign (trash to make shift huts) but never an issue with illegals. Going down again Nov 14-20 for my Muley hunt in 36A, hopefully an uneventful trip with the illegals. Always carrying my sidearm and long gun. I surely won't go down without a fight. Be safe and keep your eyes open.

Saw this guy a week week before my boys jr hunt in Redington, needless to say he never saw another sunrise. Even though he wasn't bothering anyone I felt obligated to add another rattle to my collection.

What do you mean you can't blame him..............It was up to him to put it through the uprights and he missed, so they lost. If you are supposedly one of the best in the nation you DON'T MISS

And it begins, the W slowly starts to turn upside down and before you know it, it becomes the M........University of Mildcats

Jake got drawn for unit 33 jr hunt Oct 10-16. With all the family sports going on we had to make this a day to day hunt, we got up at 3:30 and hit the road by 4:00. I was a little leary about a creek we had to cross (by foot) due to the 5+ inches of rain the past two nights up on Mt Lemmon. I was right, it took us an additional 30 minutes walking down stream to find a passable spot without getting totally soaked. We headed up the mountain and got to our glassing spot with ample time to get situated to start glassing. Immediately saw some does below us feeding, I told Jake time to make some $$. Once again to keep an eleven year old interested in glassing I would pay him $2.00 a doe and $5.00 a buck. Well right away the boy was $4.00 richer, he spotted a doe and a fawn. Right about that time I picked up 2 bucks about 800 yds away, I told him we got horn let's go. We backed around and got within 380 yds, I wasn't comfortable with him taking that shot even though I new the rifle could. We backed around again and he earned another $4.00 bucks, darn kid was gettin rich. We got on top of this little ridge and had to get on our knees and sometimes duck walk for about 80 yds to get to where these guys were at. That wasn't pleasant due to all the shin daggers. We got set up and ranged the 1st buck at 232 and the 2nd buck at 240. We tried prone, not comfortable we tried using the bi-pod wiggling too much. Finally after 20 minutes of getting things just right he said, " dad, I am ready". I told him I would keep an eye on both bucks just shoot and chamber another round in case you need it. He shot at the closer one and it jumped straight up and high-tailed it around the tree where the 2nd buck was at. I couldn't tell if he hit it but the reaction of the 2nd buck it appeared that he was looking at his buddy rolling on the ground. A few minutes go by and the 1st buck walks off unscathed, I tell Jake shoot at the 2nd buck which was just standing out in the open. Bam......Buck goes down @ 240 yds. Hooting and high fives and a few knuckle punches. We walk down and start the fun after a few pics. And wouldn't you know it, as we are dragging the deer we jump a very nice 3x and of course it stops at 100 yds and turns and does the nanny nanny doodoo you can't shoot me. Oh well, always next year. Dropped off at WGP and now it is relax time.

As fast as this year is flying by, this would be great Xmas gift for your kiddos. -
Consider trading for a Sig Mosquito 22, practically brand new. Comes with box, papers, extra mag. I purchased this thinking I would like it more than my Walther p22.
