    AZGF to ban salt/baiting

123456, You are probably one of the G&F employees who troll this web site and like to throw "facts" around. I will guarantee the harvest number by archery hunters will not go down if this law is passed. For some reason the thinkers in game and fish area believe it is due to baiting but never think it is possibly due to other factors like bow technology, better optics, time in the field and hunters studying the game more than ever before. Why are we not limiting the size/power of optics, feet per second shot by a bow, range finders and scent lures? Or are the game and fish getting ready to look into these issues too? All the studies done on diseases due to baiting have been done in states that have far greater deer/elk populations than Arizona. The harvest numbers you are referring too are in my opinion due to many other factors stated above than to baiting. But I’m sure in five years when the hunt success is still on the rise for archery hunters even after the baiting ban, laws will be put into place or hunting seasons limited for archery hunter to make sure it fits the G&F puzzle. G&F wonders why hunter participation numbers are down, all they have to do is look into the mirror. Stupid laws like this will just make it worse not to mention hurt the hunting revenue generated from the archery hunters. I’ve been considering moving to another state and this will be a motivator to take my money elsewhere as will many others. I simply stated that lots of arguments on this site seem to be that they want to know #'s. Read Coues n Sheep's post. He actually puts his questions in a bullet style presentation. The answer to 70 % of his questions are present in Hunt Arizona. As far as doing #'s on our present herd vs. other states, this is not a very intelligent statement. You see in order to have research, the problem has to be present. We do not have CWD, they are trying to be proactive, not reactive. If this law makes you move to another state, I would suggest it be one of the other states that allow baiting. When you arrive at your new state, I'm sure you will have stuff to complain about there too. If I were you, I would start packing and looking at real estate outside of AZ. Good luck in your travels.

    AZGF to ban salt/baiting

Seems that everyone who says that there is no facts, doesn't want to answer the question of why the Hunt Arizona facts do not count? Their is factual data on most every question they ask, but seem not to want to acknowledge it.

    AZGF to ban salt/baiting

Do you not believe the #'s in hunt Arizona? This publication that is public info, shows the amount of deer tags for last 10 years. It also shows the amount of deer killed during archery hunts, since the mandatory reporting began. If shows #'s further back, but I am sure you do not trust the survey card results. (neither do I). Since you and I agree on mandatory harvest reporting, you have to belive their #'s from the last 5 years.

In other words "You" can't put it out... The words are there and they are how you read them... Grey areas.... I do not understand your interpretation of the law. It clearly states that salt is not considered bait. So then the above rule about hunters does not apply to you. Please explain your interpretation.

    AZGFD Rule Changes

I gotta say, after reading G&F's responses to questions, I am starting to lean more toward the where the heck is the evidence? argument. I don't rally care if they ban it or not, but I agree that more evidence is needed. Seems they are using the increased harvest of whitetail with bows in 22 and 23 as a fallback on, just in case we do not buy the CWD argument. Starting to sound more like a politcal event rather than a scientific event.

I agree 100%. They should show and or state their #'s. Kaibab doe #'s, now there is another terrible subject. I would love to know what they consider a healthy buck to doe ratio in the BAB! I have heard a few different #'s and think they are waaaaay to high. The lack of rut challengers is crazy. Not uncommon to see 2x3 buck with 20 does on late hunt. No competion for does up there.

If you strongly believe that baiting needs to stay, Make sure you let your commision know about it. The worst thing someone can do is sit back and let something go, that they feel strong about. I personally don't care one way or the other. If it stays legal, I will continue to use it, if it does not, no big deal.

    AZGFD Rule Changes

If you read one of my post above, I said baiting is not the main reason. It is just an easy way to cut back the #. If you do not think it will result in less deer being killed you are in denial. Maybe not a significant # less, but none the less it will be less. If we keep at this rate, seasons are going to have to be shortened. Something has to give.

Go read hunt arizona 2012. Shows statistics on archery harvest from G&F. The amount of whitetail taken by archery has almost doubled since 2003. Mule deer has stayed around the same, whitetail has greatly increased. Just so happens that they are the animal that seems to respond to baiting the best.

    New website for Duwane Adams

Looks like a lot better site than what he had. I did notice that on several pages, the term 200 point mule deer and 110 point coues. You should change point to " or inch, since they are not 200 pointers they are 200"ers. Great job on the site, how long have you been designing websites?

    AZGFD Rule Changes

Maybe you should argue with G&F to allow baiting only for champ hunters. This would eliminate your argument about helping the disabled. Seems after they pass this ban, you ought to try to get this passed to help out the physicaly challenged hunter.

Good call, Give them more stuff to take away. That argument is terrible. Line has to be drawn somewhere, they chose to draw it on baiting. I think it is a great place to draw it.

    AZGFD Rule Changes

Because it is not about success, they already control success by only having mandatory reporting by bowunters. They removed December hunts and made others by going to a draw. If they were truly concerned with success, all species would have a mandatory reporting for harvest, not just bowhunters. Just look back a few more years ago; another method was removed, trapping. Now just look how our pronghorn antelope, the mighty coyote has single handily kills over 50% of the young before they are a week old. Kind of funny we never had those issues before the loss of trapping. Again a knee jerk reaction to satisfy the old left wings Ainti You are wrong my friend, if it was truly for the good with sound scientific data to back it up. I would support it! Go read the statistics on game and fish's website. It's called hunt Arizona. They do show an alarming increase on average of whitetail deer killed with archery equipment. From 2003 to now, the increse is almost double on average. This is not solely because of baiting, (baiting may only be less than 1% of the reason). Point is, game and fish sees a trend, and they feel that this is a very minimaly invasive way to curb that. They could just be jerks and simply say, draw only, and eliminate opportunity days of hunting. That seems even easier than banning baiting. I think taking away baiting is very minor and would rather not be able to bait and hunt the same amount, rather than be able to bait, but have a lot less time to hunt.

    AZGFD Rule Changes

Even if AGFD told you it was about too high of harvest for bowhunters, you would not be happy. So what is the difference on the reason? No matter how they sell it, you are not buying. Just like they outlawed too small of broad heads, camping next to water holes, pitfall traps, hunting with the aid of artificial light ( with a few exceptions) and countless other laws, they need to be made to meet their management needs. I use bait, but would not care if they took it. Why not protest the bait ban on migratory birds and bears? Seems everyone got used to it, and figured out other means of harvesting.

    .243 for Mule Deer?

.243 is plenty big enough. Great deer cartiridge. The case itself is a .308 case necked down to .243. Lots of powder behind that bullet. Good luck on your hunt

    Best guess at score

That bull is bigger than 310." I think he is closer to 330" Great thirds, great beams, decent mass, short fronts. I chased a bull a few years back that was a clone of that bull only about 40 inches bigger. Curious if that is his offspring. What unit was that in? If you want to private message me the unit, that is fine too. I would love to feed my curiousity. Great video.

    Archery cow

Dang that cow looks like a camel. looks like a big cow. Cow hunting is the exact opposite of bull hunting. When bull hunting you want to shoot as big of a bull as you can. When you cow hunt, you want to shoot as small of a cow as you can. Congrats on the successful hunt!
