This little buck looks odd. His momma is clearly a whitetail. I'm not so sure about him.
-
Here is another look. To me the tail looks intermediate and the metatarsal looks a little big. Just an odd looking deer all around.

1st Annual Shootin' The Moon Bowfishing Tournament

What a great time. Thanks again Dom and Adam for taking me in, you guys are great. I learned a lot. Most notably: equipment malfunctions can really get in the way. I'll definitely be upgrading my setup. And may even invest in a back-up rig. Those chicken wings were the best! I can only image how good they are hot. Thanks again! -
Does anybody shoot through it? Do you practice shooting through it or just trust what they say about not affecting the arrow? Fixed blade only or do some mechanicals work too? I've never shot anything out of my blind and until recently was shooting mechanicals ( I switched to Slick Tricks) so I've never tried shooting through the mesh. I found a nice obscure spring fed waterhole that still has water. I put a cam on it, hopefully there are some good animals hitting it. If it pans out I may have to sit the blind.

Point your spotting scope at the sun and this will reflect onto the ground.

At risk of sounding like the noob that I am... What equipment (other than the obvious) should I bring? I figure I'll bring a couple extra arrows and tips and a headlight. But what else do I need? -

The antler drop time depends on a number of factors. Typically the really big boys will drop between the end of February and mid March with the good to average bulls dropping mid March into mid April. The little guys will drop mid April into May. There are probably some on the ground but most are still on the bulls.

Great pictures. That is indeed an Ocelot. I spent the last year working with Ocelots in South Texas. It is fairly rare for them to venture up into Az.

If you agree with SB 1070 Arizona's " Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act" Then you should join me in boycotting "Los Suns" As an act of protest Robert Sarver is having the Phoenix Suns wear the "Los Suns" jerseys for the game. I say as an act of protest we should just not watch. Let the ratings tell them we disagree with the politicizing of televised sports.

Two days left to fill my Archery deer tag. I've got over 50hrs in the blind so far and have seen more does than I can shake a stick at. Hopefully with this warm weather and dry air the bucks are feeling thirsty tomorrow. I'll be out there til the end. Good luck to everyone else heading out. And good luck to the archery elk hunters.
-
It was awful windy and a bit rainy today. Didn't see a single deer. Was lured off the mountain with an invite to go help on an archery elk hunt. So I guess I'll miss the last day after all. I should have been in the blind yesterday. Had no excuse not to go. Trail cam says the buck I was after was there around 8 am. I knew that was going to happen.

Nice work Jim. Great write up too. Congrats. -
Watched a 340-350 bull pushing cows and bugling his fool head off yesterday morning. He had one little satellite bull lingereing but offering no challenge. Pretty cool to watch.
