This is the administrations way of targeting US. Hunters, Shooters, Patriots, anyone who goes against the ruler. He's after those who Harry Reid recently classified as terrorists. This has nothing to do with what we have come to know as "terrorism".

I've never had an issue with them. I've recovered a couple bullets from elk. They were just under the skin on the opposite side. Different reaction likely has to do with what they hit. If it goes between the ribs or hits them, If it hits the shoulder or leg etc. I imagine they will even react differently to what they hit on the inside lungs vs, liver or if they hit the diaphragm or heart. I use them exclusively I everything but my long range gun and that is only because I shoot a custom load in 30-378.

They're so Dirty and Nasty.

I am all for heroic measures to return any of our troops...none of them are peons when defending country. However, this scum was not a troop. He made the decision to leave...should have suffered the consequences of his decision. If it adds any clarification or feel good, I spent the better part of 8 years as an Army Military Policeman. 5 of those years were in the 82d Airborne Division where a bad landing ended the Airborne portion of my service. I spent a lot of time as a lowly peon. They are all heroes. The point I was making is thatthe bad guys don't have to capture high ranking individuals. Any ol' troop will do.

The media calling him the "last POW" is bothersome. Almost as if they are tempting the Taliban or Al Qaeda to take more. I imagine more POWs is pretty appealing right now as they know America pays well for even it's lowliest peon troops.

I think there is an effort to remove non native fish and make this a sucker/chub river. Not sure though, could just be bad fishing.

It absolutely CAN be carried over just like all non-permit tags it is valid for all open OTC hunts within that calendar year. -
Weekend Fishing Report... You won't believe it..

Thieves suck! FYI, whether you took them home or not it still counts as your limit and you technically took a double limit of trout on Saturday. Sorry to be the jerk to point that out. -

I had the early tag last year and killed a bird on the first day back after the break. He was chasing a hen gobbling his head off. So, yeah it can still happen. I only encountered one other group of people out there. I'll be out in 6A for archery Friday to give it a try. -
Way to go! I didn't know this opportunity existed. I just might have to give it a shot.

I would say it is not the same bull. That character in the G1 & G2 would most likely be retained. In the smaller antler they curve up and in later years they would continue to do so.

I've used really large bobbers in salt water for king mackerel using 8 inch mullet for bait. Worked just fine. I don't see why it wouldn't work for flatheads.

I hope I am interpreting it wrong but it sure seems as though the majority of the public land in the unit is not open during the rifle hunt. FR 151/643 pretty much runs along the edge of the forest service boundary and most of the land to the west is on the ranches. Except for the area north of 89A to the river which is PNF. If I am interpreting it right everything south of 169 and east of FR 643 (3/4 of the unit) is not open. That kinda sucks!

Education. I suspect most people don't realize how low an elk spine dips as it approaches the neck. A lot of so called 10 ring "double lung" shots go over the spine. Aim low. Shoot him in the heart.

Love the lighting on the elk antlers!

Congrats Brian! I got my first goat tag this year too. I would say the hunt method depends on the terrain. I helped on a muzzy hunt last year and my buddy stalked in to range using the terrain. If it is straight flat that might not be a great option though. You can't really go wrong with sitting water, except that it is BORING!

It's funny to watch peoples tone change through the process. Before the hits everyone is all eager and excited. During the hits everyone is hopeful and excited. After the hits those with charges get impatient quickly and those without become nasty and full of disdain for the impatient ones who were drawn. It goes from I hope, I hope, I wanna know now to 'quit yer bitchin'.' Not sure if I am more amused by the sour grapes or the impatience.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if they waited until the mail out date just to set a precedent. Then every draw thereafter will have a set release date. No more speculating or calling to ask when. Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

How to bring about a consistent draw result release date
mr.smith replied to Xnt's topic in Elk Hunting
I'll say it. Anyone who says cash up front only is the way to go is flat out selfish. They don't dislike the ease of the current method. They simply know that fewer people will put in if they have to pony up the cash first. The current way works. Sure we don't like waiting for results when we know we've been drawn. BUT, the AZGFD has never missed the mail out deadline. I think calling everyone with a rejected card is a waste of effort. There was a correction deadline that was well known. They should run the draw the day of the correction deadline and charge all of the cards as soon as the deadline passes. If you failed to update payment by the deadline you don't get drawn. However, you already paid the application fee so you should get a bonus point and keep your loyalty. When they charge your card they know what you drew so indicate the unit in the charge description. Can't be that difficult. The whole system is automated by the time the draw happens. They aren't sitting there manually entering/charging cards. So there it is. The current system works. Sure, it could be streamlined/smoothed but it hasn't failed. -

If they don't actually work in the draw department they are just as clueless as the rest of us as to when the results will be posted.
