I use the mont-bell super spiral down hugger #3 with a silk liner, also. Great bag. On warmer hunts, you can leave the liner at home and colder hunts, take a couple of body warmers. I have used mine in 8 degrees with my long johns. The bag is pretty constrictive. If you like to move around a lot, there isn't much room and the zipper only goes down half way. I am only 5'6" so I get away with the short bag. I think I bought mine at camp saver and they thru in a sleeping pad with free shipping. Great bag. Brent

buy a youth rifle and add an adult stock or buy youth stock for ?
cohofishing replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Courntey shot a ruger M77 with the original wood stock cut down to fit her. Put a limbsaver recoil pad (grind to fit) on it and she shot the lights out. Couple years later, I put a full size synthetic stock back on it for her. Wood stocks are easier to cut down and make to fit a smaller person. If you do use a limbsaver recoil pad and grind it, put it in the freezer. It will grind down a lot better. Brent -
No, it's not photoshop. There is a series of pictures leading up to this one gathering. Pretty amazing. My best picture of the bear season. Brent

I have the same hunt and also hunted it last year. There are tree stands in those mountains that have been there for years. Hunt where you want to. Most of the tree stands are chained to the tree so it would be hard and probably wrong to move them. I just use a different tree or a different spot on the same tree. You can also use a ground blind. We all know the rules about tree stands and waterholes. I think some of the stands and cameras in those mountains are used for the early over the counter hunt and you wont see anyone there during the draw hunt. As for arguments, I set up a ground blind on the last day, last year, on a water source that is clearly marked on most maps and has cameras and stands on it. Was in my blind at 430 am, sat all day, and that evening had a guy walk right by my truck, hiked in, and stood behind my ground blind insulting me until I came out and had a argument on "how lazy I was", "how I used other people's equipment to scout", etc. Not only did he ruin my last day hunt by yelling for a half hour but he dang near made me not draw that hunt this year. I invited him to hunt with me on the same spring; told him he was welcome to take down his stuff; anything he wanted to do; just shut up and let me hunt but he just went on and on. Sorry to paint a bad picture but those mountains get hunted pretty hard and you are going to have a hard time finding a water source that is unknown to someone and has no evidence of hunter's on it. Just remember the first come, first one to hunt rule and have fun. Kill a bear. Brent Ps: you might carry a copy of the forest service and fish and game rules with you. I do, not that it will helped much, but it gives me the satisfaction that I am in the right doing what I do.

Commercial fished around there for years. Grew up in Hoonah, Alaska. Great place to fish and visit. Cross Sound is just off of open ocean so you get new fish ever tide. Brent

+1 on full fees. I apply in New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming and they all charge your card up front. If they get rid of paper apps, the only way to go, is up front fees. Brent

Courtney 2012 season started the same as her 2011 season. No time. To you guys that are as lucky as I am to get to hunt with their kids enjoy it while you can because the older they get, the less time they have. My eighteen year old senior is a honor student, involved with sports and dance, and holds down a part time job. To top it off, she's a varsity cheerleader and the Sahuarita Mustangs went undefeated the regular season. To say I was happy when she told me that she was really excited to go hunting this year and that I could have two whole days was a under statement. Courtney really wanted to bivy hunt and with the weather report for the second season being crappy, I tried to talk her out of it. Two days isn't much time and with the weather the way it was, it seem to make more sense to camp by the truck. Her words... "what kind of story would that be". After a long hike in the dark and a couple of cold nights and windy days, we found this three point at 346 yards. She kept her cool till he fed clear of the oaks and turned broadside making a great shot. She shot him at 350 pm and after a few pictures and a quick bone out, we made the mile hike back to camp and packed up everything. We made it back to the truck at 830. I had a great time hunting with Courtney and though I feel like it might be my last hunt with my daughter for a while, I can only hope that she will continue to find time to hunt with her dad.

Renewed my subscription and paid $10 for the knife. Got it two days ago. Knife plus 12 extra blades. Already have one havalon knife but for that price, why not have a spare. Didn't know it came with spare blades. Was going to renew anyways. Great deal if you like the magizine. Brent

.264 Win Mag Powder Choices
cohofishing replied to scoutm's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Court's 264 win mag likes 120 sierras with 4350. It also shot 130 nosler accubonds really well with 4350. Court used the 130's to take her cow elk at 350 yards. The gun was built with a 1-9 twist and shoots 100's the best. If I had a chance to do it all over again, I would build it with a 1-8 twist to shoot the 140's. Don't overlook the 140 nosler partitions. Even though it's not a boat tail, it is a great bullet and handles game with the best of them. Brent -

Sean, Congrats again. Nice to finely hear the story. I know how much work you put into this hunt. You deserve to fill your tag. Brent

I have changed the hub out a few times on my 1995 GMC. (35's on 6 lug wheels) It is most likely the same. You need a big socket to take off the nut on the end of the short axle. The hardest part is keeping the bearing from turning while you break the nut loose. I use a big pipe wrench, the ground and the wheel lug bolts. Once that nut is removed, the brakes, four bolts and the antilock sensor. All the bearing get replaced in one piece. It is helpful to have a something to set the rotor on while you do the work because it is hanging from the brake line. I use a bucket. It is a easy job if you have the tools. It is helpful to have another ride once the truck is jacked up, I went to the parts store twice to get the right socket. Brent

Kind of dealing with this myself. Scouting for my spring archery bear hunt, I am finding a lot of trail cameras and tree stands already put up. Some of the stands appear to be ones I saw the last time I had this tag. The Fish and Game covers this topic under "ethics" page 10 of last years fall regs. • Waterholes on public and state lands belong to everyone, and everyone should enjoy free and equal access; • Responsible hunters should respect other hunters’ privileges. They should leave the area if another hunter gets to a waterhole first; • Ethically responsible hunters will always yield to another hunter who has reached the waterhole first on any given morning or evening during the hunt; • Simply posting a sign/notice on or near a waterhole does not give anyone the exclusive right to hunt that waterhole; the hunter actually needs to be present; • Hanging a tree stand or setting a blind near a waterhole does not entitle a person to exclusive hunting rights to that waterhole. Depending on the location it may be unlawful to leave tree stands hanging or blinds set for extended periods of time. They may be considered abandoned property and subject to seizure. “First Come – First Serve” is a common courtesy that should be used when more than one person wants to hunt the same area or waterhole, regardless of who has a tree stand or blind in the area. The Arizona Game and Fish Department reminds all hunters that confrontations in hunting situations can involve firearms and hot tempers. Whether you are in the city or next to a waterhole, any threats, intimidation, assault, or disorderly conduct can result in citations, arrests and/or jail time. Please refrain from confrontational behavior — ethical hunting is everyone’s business. That gives you idea on how the Fish and Game feels about the issue. Not everyone feels the same. I have had hunters set up a blind right beside me at a waterhole and ignore me and I have had hunters wave and walk away. Last fall on the strip, there were ground blinds and cameras on almost every waterhole. Some of them never saw hunters at all. Most of the water holes in elk country have ground blinds built out of branches yet it is rare that a hunter draws the same tag two years in a row. On public land, there will always be people coming and going; scouting and prepping for the coming hunt. If you like the area, hunt it. Ignore the ground blind. You may never see anyone use it.
