Hi, I was just wondering if anyone's checks have cleared that they wrote for their tags. Mine haven't yet. After the last couple years, I don't even trust they have my app's untill the money leaves the account. Brent

Hi, Finally called, and the gal said that her checks haven't cleared yet. She said it is taking time to enter all the data by hand. Can anyone say " get a better computor system" ? Brent
-
Hi, It was a slow day at the railroad and I spent sometime at home on the computor. Did a seach on this forum and found some great info. I really like what I have read on the slik pro 713's and 614's; but I not sure if another lightweight tripod would do much for me. The idea that I like and tried was the rock bag. I set up my Slik Sprint Mini and tied some weight on it (a small rock, maybe 1.5 pounds) Using both the bino's and spotter, I saw improvement, even in today's wind. Since there is aways a rock nearby, this idea makes sense. Thanks, Brent I'm going to go look at the Slik Pro 614cf tomorrow. I'll give a update

hi, I know this subject has been done before, but I was wondering if anyone has any imput on Slik pro 614 CF tripods? I currently am using the Slik Sprint Mini with a Jim White head. This set up works okay with my Leica 10x50's but when I use my Minox spotter...well, I think I can do better. I know a heavier tripod would be more stable, but I'd like to stay light weight. The Slik pro 614 is only 1.9 lbs and supports 6.6 lbs. What do you think?

2006 november coues mount
cohofishing replied to cohofishing's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Hi, Thanks guys. I have four deer done by Weller's and they have done three more deer for friends and my father in law's brown bear. Love their work. Here's to us all drawing our deer tag of choice! Thanks, Brent -
Hey, Is it just me or are there still checks to be cashed? I dropped off my appt's at the fish and game office and my checks still haven't got cashed; getting alittle worried. Also, does anyone have a kid going to tony's hunter safety class out at the rifle range this week? My daughter, Courtney, is and really likes his class. It's five days long and covers rifle, shotgun and bow. Brent

hi, just called fish and game regarding department id's. I couldn't remember if I had gotten id's for my wife and daughter. Since I had already put in by computer for my tags, I brought up the subject. The lady said that it wasn't going to be a problem (which I'm sorry to say I don't believe) and asked if I had gotten the e mail. She told me if you do draw, the department will not be charging you credit card, but you will have to send in a cashier's check (no personal checks) to pay for the tag. Now is it just me, or is this going to open a whole new can of worms? It has never been about the money for me but the convenience; and if they are not going to used our card why not return the fee and start all over? Did anyone get an e mail? Brent

hi, I finally pulled out my reloading gear that I haven't used in ten years. I have a Browning A-bolt 300 win mag without the boss system. I got tired of the 1.5 groups I was getting out of factory ammunition, so I started playing. All I can say is keep looking and record everything. I can't remember how many loads I've tried but she loves 69gr of 4350 with a speer 150gr boattail. I never been impressed with speer for hunting and wanted a better bullet. I tried nosler 150gr boattail today; and I back to 1.5 inch group. Go figure!!! The speer bullet shot a five shot group of a half inch at 100 yards. I think my problem could be that I shot the nosler group with a hotter barrel. Good luck Brent

good morning november New mexico unit 24, coues november arizona 34a and the tag I was really hoping for; my daughter drew november junior, 36a. Been a few years since my boy drew his last junior hunt, but when did they start putting the junior hunts on the last weekend of the general hunt in November? I thought the idea was to keep the kids away from the crowds, and give them some advantage. Still no Elk tag!!! Brent
-
Hi, Don't give up! I was beginning to worry, but finally my credit card showed a hit just a hour ago; $19.50. Who knows maybe there are more to come? I'm still looking for my first elk tag. Brent

Hi, I got my third choice, unit 24, the second november hunt for coues. It will be the first time in that unit for me. Brent

Hi, Just wondering, has everyone had their checks cashed by the Arizona Game and Fish? I know friends who have, but my bank doesn't show that my checks have been posted. Hope they haven't lost mine. I brought them straight to the Tucson Branch. Struck out with my New Mexico draw Brent

Redman, my problems exactly! I looked into this problem abit and the best I could do for myself and daughter was go to New Mexico. That state does the rifle part during one weekend, saturday and sunday and this spring it was offered in both lordsburg and demming, as well as other cities. The guy I talked to at Arizona game and fish, suggested this idea, and upon completetion, we'd have to take a Arizona one day refresher course. I never did get it done this year but will next year and I can't help you much with the bow hunting card. When I got mine in Alaska, I was able to take it throught a local organization instead of the fish and game. Maybe call PSE or Robinson's? The person to call is on the Arizona Game and Fish Website; he's in charge of hunter safety. Check out New Mexico Game and fish for their classes, it's on their website. Brent

New Coues Book
cohofishing replied to coueshunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
What a book!! Got back from Alaska the other day and found my copy on top of the pile of magizines. My wife had ordered it for my birthday. Great gift!! Didn't draw any tags from either state but this book almost makes up for it. Once again Amanda, great website!! One of the first things I did after being on the boat all summer was check the forum. Good luck to all who drew, I going to start getting ready for bowhunting in December!! Brent -
I used to use a 243 in Alaska for blacktail. Probally shot a dozen deer with one, but they were not very long shots, but bigger deer. Loaded it with 100 grain nosler partitions. My boy shot his first two mule deer with one, the longest shot was alittle over 200 yards. I think the gun great but for long range I think the energy is alittle weak. Brent

Hi, Just to put my two cents in. My boy has drawn twice in 32 for youth hunts. The first he took a good 4 pt muley and the second he took a nice 3 pt coues out of a area called Deer creek (on the road to Klondyke) Great buck but like someone said it had more of that typical two point frame. It was over 16 inches wide and it's third points were only crab like on the end on it's main. It did have what would have been probally 4" drop tine broken of. I also bow hunt down in the southern end of 32 and have seen some great coues bucks...32 is one of my dream december hunts; I probally be better of buying a lottery ticket Brent

Hi I agree with all of you. Any coues video is a good video. I glad to that I'm not the only coues hunter with an opinion on the " Phantom". I just get tired of the same old crap from the masses that have a negative attitude towards long range hunting shots and I think that video adds alittle fire to the flames. Every hunter should know he's(or her's) gun and what their maxium range is. What amazed me about that video is that no one every used a range finder. Missing is part of hunting but that video took the cake. I don't think anyone will be using that video for a teaching aid. Brent

NM coues application
cohofishing replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
I have been drawing for NM's unit 27 for four years and never drew yet. It sucks that the NMG&F changed their policy as far as fees are concerned. NM was always my fall back option if I didn't draw here in Az. With it only costing $6, there was always the option if you couldn't make the hunt, you didn't lose your money.( you didn't have to pay untill you actually comitted to the hunt) That is probally why they changed their policy; to keep people from filling up the draw and not going on the hunt. (greenies, etc) Not only does the state lose the fees, but once the tag is drawn, I beleive, it was final. I always firgured if I drew in 27, I'd make the hunt no matter what; but the thought of spending the $316 makes the decision alittle tougher. Maybe that will improve the odds. Never hunted the over counter tags; might this year though, if I fail to draw in Az again. Good luck Brent
