    Muzzy Elk in Colorado

I killed two bucks this year with 250 grain ballistic tip bullets by Thor behind 110 grains of buckhorn 209. They were not long shots but I was really happy with that load out to 100 yards with open sights. That load with a scope (New Mexico) was good for a two inch group at 200 yards. Buckhorn is cleaner but being new at muzzleloading myself, the trick I learned was keeping the primer pocket really clean. To clean my CVA accura, I used a drill bit and a can of compresses air. I could get three or so shots without cleaning, but would start getting misfires, so I started cleaning the primer pocket every two shots. Sounds crazy but I hated the misfires. I cleaned the barrel every five shots or so. I was using cci 209 primers Brent

    OnXMaps Hunt AZ for rino

Bought the four western state chip. Worked great for me. Used it in Colorado and everything was spot on. Like that you can use it in your computer also with the base camp program. Nice to be able to see the map on a 21 inch screen

Late November hunt comes to an end

Wow. Every time you post a story, I find myself blown away. Great buck. Congratulations to Isaiah. Brent
  8. Last year, Court gave me two and a half days and we didn't get it done. Passed up bucks like this one and ran out of time. This year, she gave me a day and a half. Courtney made a great shot on this little buck this morning and made it home in time to get to the U of A game. She might be the only kid in the zona zoo section that got up this morning at 330; went out and killed a coues; and still made it to the game. Proud of you girl

Mountaneering/hiking boots vs popular hunting boots

I switched from danner to lowas. I love the weight and the feel. I wore the stitching off of the toes the first January I used them. Maybe ten day days of hunting. Brought them back to sumit hut and they replaced them. They recommended staying on trails. I wore the next pair out it the same place during my spring bear hunt. I was on trails most of the time. I glued them and wore them on my Colorado hunt. I got 47 miles out of them. I like the way they felt but the $230 ones just didn't last. I would like to try the ones they make for lathrop and sons. Right now I am back using danners.

    Sciatica or Sciatic Nerve

I know this sounds silly but if you just pinched your nerve, you can stretch out your hips and relieve the pain. I googled it and found a stretch that works the hip area and it works for me. I do it now daily but if my lower back starts hurting, I will do it a couple times a day. If you get the western hunter mag, they talk about the stretch I use in the new issue. They call it "sitting on your hips".

    6.5 Creedmoor for sell

Thanks again Mike. The gun is everything you said it was and more. Anyone looking at the 7 mag that Mike has to sell, consider giving him a call. If it is anything like the creedmore I just bought, it is worth looking at. Brent

  18. Just got back from my Burro Mountain mule deer hunt. I was able to pull off a trifecta. I can say that I feel lucky to have harvested one of these deer but to get three bucks in one year, I am truly blessed. I have been on four different Burro Mountain hunts. Each time it seems to be getting harder. With my Colorado on my plate, I wasn't able to scout New Mexico like I had hoped to. Instead I choose to rely on what I had learned on Court's youth hunt years ago. Maybe not the best idea. Getting to the Burro's two days early was the best I could do. I spent most of the day light hours behind my 15's in three different spots. I found a few does and two smallish bucks. Not the start I was hoping for. I was hoping to have better news to tell Eric (brndg) when he showed up on the first day to help me on my hunt. We spent three days behind our 15's. We moved from area to area looking for a better concentration of deer but we never found them. We were only able to find one small two point in velvet and a few small groups of does. Some Coues does and of all things, a herd of elk (I didn't know they had those in the burro's). Our last day to hunt found us on the same hill that Court shot her buck from, hoping to relive the magic. Eric was glassing east towards the sun and me to the west. I finally heard those words we love to hear "got a buck, good buck". With a good plan and some hand signals, I was able to have this great 4x3 feed to me and at 34 yards, I was able to take my second muzzleloader buck of the year. Thanks Eric. It probably wouldn't have turned out the same if you hadn't have been there. My August Colorado Muzzleloader buck My January Arizona Archery buck

    new mexico mule deer hunt

My son had that youth hunt fifteen years ago. It is a tough hunt. I met with a fish and game officer and was told that most of the deer migrate from Colorado after the snowfall. Not many resident deer. Good luck. You will find one

    Garmin 62st

I bought and used the ONXmaps for my Colorado hunt. It was awesome. I have been downloading maps from GPS websites for free but the $100 I spent on Rockies South (az-co-nm-ut) was worth it. Unit boundaries and land definitions worked great. Trails where right on also

    Alaskan Moose Hunting Information Needed

I hunted moose in Southeast Alaska for quite a few years and have been on many successful meat hunts. The amount of meat that comes with a moose and the work of getting one out of the woods is over whelming at best. My next hunt for Alaska moose will be a float hunt down one of the rivers in the interior. I wish I had more info for you but I got to get a kid though U of A before I can pull it off. It is a popular way to hunt moose and can make it a easier pack out. I sureThe other thing to look at is horn restrictions. I know that some of the units have some pretty high expectations on what you can shoot and though a big set of horns are great, sometimes it is pretty hard to find one that fits those requirements. If you google un-guided float hunts, you will find some great info. I hope this helps. Good luck Brent

    My $2.35 digiscope adapter

Just made one for my minox spotting scope. Great idea. Took a little sanding to get the 1 1/2 female end to fit over my eye piece but when I got it right, it works great. Thanks for the idea, Brent
